The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled in a major voting rights case involving whether Arizona voting restrictions are racially discriminatory. The high court ruled Arizona’s out-of-precinct policy and HB 2023 do not violate the Voting Rights Act and were not enacted with a racially discriminatory purpose. The judgment of the Court of Appeals is now reversed, and the cases are remanded for further proceedings consistent with this opinion. Justice Samuel Alito wrote the opinion for the majority and was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Neil Gorsuch, Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

"..restrictions disproportionately hurt Latino and Native American voters.." According to democrats, Latinos and Native Americans are too stupid to know where to vote and follow the law regarding voting and ballot handling. The democrats always argue in terms of denying someone his/her rights, but in fact are saying that that particular group is just too lazy or stupid to follow the rules/law.

I sensed a few years back, when a number of "companies" were going door-to-door, allegedly inquiring about solar panel installation, or something related to your home, and had a clipboard in-hand, that they were actually canvassing neighborhoods for votes they could harvest. There was a case in San Pedro, California where an apartment had 92 ballots delivered to a 2 bedroom apartment building. I believe California enacted a law to make it legal to ballot harvest in 2017, which is why they had the 7 GOP House seats "flip" in 2018 election. They tried to do the same in 2020, but didn't have the same results, hopefully because the GOP knew how to play that game. Wondering if the CA law would now be invalid based on this SCOTUS decision.

This is styled "Mark Brnovich, Attorney General of Arizona, et al., Petitioners v. Democratic National Committee, et al." This is a case of "statutory interpretation" regarding the U.S. Congress' intent as expressed in the federal statute titled the "Federal Civil Right Act of 1965." The minority opinion clearly argues that the majority opinion grievously misunderstands Congress' intent. Prediction: Democrats in Congress will attempt to amend the Act to their liking and thereby (1) "clarify" what Congress really intended and (2) correct the terrible errors committed in this case by the befuddled majority opinion. P.S. If you're interested in the amazing amount of "lawyering" expended, and the exceptionally large number of parties involved, take a quick look at the Court's docket at https://www.supremecourt.gov/docket/docketfiles/html/public/19-1257.html

It wasn't that long ago that just about everyone voted on election day. Absentee, mail-in, harvested ballots, etc were a very small percentage. Somehow Bubba Clintoon, and Obamanation managed to get elected twice with huge persons-of-color support under those rules. There is simply no truth that sensible guidelines for voting is denying anyone's right to vote.

Ohio GOP attorney general prevails in lawsuit alleging

A federal judge has ruled that a provision in President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 relief bill limiting state tax cuts is unconstitutional, handing a victory to Republicans. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost had filed a federal lawsuit against the Treasury Department and its secretary, Janet Yellen, alleging that a provision in the $1.9 trillion Democratic spending package that prohibits states from using relief funds to offset tax cuts or credits “directly or indirectly” is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Douglas Cole issued the permanent injunction against what Yost dubbed the “tax mandate” on Thursday, ruling that the provision exceeds the federal government’s power over states. “The federal government has to stay in their lane,

Three days ago, there was a New York Times opinion piece defending Kamala Harris and the job she was doing. Two days ago, there was a hit piece on her office management skills and her general unpreparedness from POLITICO. I covered both because it looked like something was shaping up behind the scenes. Right now, Joe Biden doesn’t know if he is running for re-election in 2024. In March, he did say he expects to run, but his public appearances aren’t getting any better, and there is still a lot of whispering going on behind the scenes as to whether or not he will actually be able to.

If someone inside the American media elite were tapped to deliver a State of the Media address in front of a distinguished audience, they would not be able to claim that their position is strong, stronger than ever. Sadly, a new survey by the Reuters Institute found the United States ranks last in media trust — at 29 percent -- among 92,000 news consumers surveyed in 46 countries. There are several easy answers for why this is true. But the most obvious one is the media's dramatic tilt to one side of the political argument. For many years,

Crazy Joe Biden strikes again. This time, it was at a bill signing event that included House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), and Rep. Jesús “Chuy” Gracia (D-IL). First, Biden slurred the title of the bill. Then, he called Waters by the wrong name, referring to her as “Maxine Walters.” And it only got worse from there. When Biden saw Waters, he said, “Senator, I hope. You think I’m kidding. I’m not.” She’s not a senator and, at 82 years old, she is very unlikely to be considering running for Senate and leaving her safe seat in the House

On the last day before its summer recess, the Supreme Court upheld two Arizona voting provisions that Democrats and civil rights groups challenged as disproportionately burdening minority voters. The vote was 6-3, with only the three hardcore liberals dissenting. Justice Alito wrote the opinion. That’s always a great sign. Amy Howe at Scotusblog observes that the decision “will make it more difficult to contest election regulations under the Voting Rights Act.” That’s probably an understatement. The motion to dismiss Kristen Clarke’s suit challenging Georgia’s election law will all but write itself now. The majority opinion found that the “core” of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act,

Washington — The Supreme Court on Thursday invalidated a requirement by the state of California that charities fundraising in the state must disclose the identities of their most generous donors. "We are left to conclude that the Attorney General's disclosure requirement imposes a widespread burden on donors' associational rights. And this burden cannot be justified

Vice President Mike Pence may be in the doghouse with conservatives but no one can say there were stories that he was a bad boss or that his office was chaotic, mismanaged, or incompetent. Things are different with Kamala Harris. According to an article in Politico, Harris’s office sounds like the real-life version of Veep, the HBO political satire that focused on the stupid, self-centered, and vicious Selina Meyer, a Vice President whose office was filled with slavish gatekeepers and self-centered staff, all of whom were incompetent. The story rings true. What's more interesting is contemplating why Democrats are going after Harris.
