US Attorney General Merrick Garland ordered a halt on federal executions after telling officials that capital punishment is too arbitrary, disproportionately targets people of color, and risks wrongly killing innocent people. Garland sent a memo to Department of Justice Officials Thursday sharing his 'serious concerns' over federal executions, including the 'troubling number of exonerations' for people sentenced to death. The AG's statement added: 'The Department of Justice must ensure that everyone in the federal criminal justice system is not only afforded the rights guaranteed by the Constitution

Surprised it took this wanker this long to do it. Maybe capital punishment targets POCs disproportionately, because POC commit most of the violent crimes disproportionately. Or racism or something. It's troubling to me when criminals who so richly deserve the needle, and have been sentenced to die by a jury of their peers, live off of my dime for 60 years while pillow biting freaks like Garland clutch their pearls about the morality of capital punishment.

I wasn't aware that one person could rule on that issue. Everytime it comes up, the people vote to uphold the death penalty, and have done it so many times that the count is unknown. I hope Garland gets smacked down on this, as he is not the dictator of the country.

I’m not sure, it’s been a long time since civics class, but I imagine most people on death row were convicted by the state, not the federal government. How many people get the death penalty for federal crimes, which is what he’s supposedly halting? This might be nothing more than virtue signaling on this idiot’s part.

The Left's Fear Is Palpable After Republicans

Last night, several special elections happened in various legislative districts in the states of Georgia, Alabama, and Wisconsin. After the results came in, a common theme was apparent: Republicans had overperformed compared to the 2020 election.Yet, it was the Georgia election that raised the most eyebrows. In a suburban Atlanta district that saw its Republican vote share hit an all-time low just under a year ago, voters swung 22 points further toward the GOP yesterday. (Tweet) Now, because these special election results heavily favored Republicans, the media will not use them as a bellwether.

The Texas state Senate approved a sweeping election reform bill Tuesday night, one day after dozens of House Democrats fled the state to prevent the chamber from taking up the legislation. The state Senate approved the bill on an 18-4 party-line vote. Nine Senate Democrats had joined 51 of their House colleagues in hightailing it to Washington, DC, though this was not enough to deny the upper chamber a quorum. However, the legislation is now stalled due to the absence of a quorum in the House.Republicans say the measures in the bill — which include ending drive-thru and 24-hour polling places, banning ballot drop boxes, and empowering partisan poll watchers —
