CHICAGO — Jean Baptiste Point DuSable Lake Shore Drive it is. Or rather, will soon be. Two years after a South Side alderman introduced an ordinance to rebrand the landmark Chicago Lake Shore Drive to honor DuSable because he was upset he didn’t hear the Black founder of Chicago mentioned during a river boat tour, the City Council on Friday ended months of racially charged debate by adopting a compromise to make it so. The vote was 33-15, with “no” votes coming from 12 white and three Latino aldermen. The ordinance calls for the renaming to happen immediately, but a
Chitcago is about to blow through 350 murders this year already, and this is what the blacks running the place are worried about.
It's not hard to see why the worst run cities in America are run by the same demographic.

And in cooking school I didn't hear anything about my Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben. But I would gladly name some streets after them.

I say with no pride that I've never heard of the man. Wouldn't renaming it "Black Shore Drive" been a simpler and more comprehensive fix?

Hmmm, I wonder if Obama has something to do with this. This is all part of the transformation of the country. Chicago a once beautiful and great city has been destroyed. Are there any sane and reasonable people there?

A camel is a horse designed by a committee.
And it has a French flair to it.
I think the liberals of Chicago will be very happy with the name. They can now go back to sleep until they are needed to sign over more of their freedoms.

San Francisco changed Market Street to MLK Jr. Drive, but most people still call it Market Street

He is recognized as the "Founder of Chicago". A school, museum, harbor, park, and bridge have been named in his honor. The site where he settled near the mouth of the Chicago River around the 1780s is identified as a National Historic Landmark, now located in Pioneer Court. So it's not like there is zero recognition of this man. That said, I could care less either way.
I couldn't name the founder/s of 99.99999 % of any American city.

those who voted for this should be responsible for all cost incurred by business, city and residents. including all expenses of printing of stationery and any late fees debt because invoices were sent to an old address.taxpayers should not have to pay for the whims of a few zealots.

I do know who founded my city=John Hunt- hence- HUntsville, Al. But there was absolutely nothing wrong with Lake Shore Drive- it described where you were. This is stupid. ANd I think the name change is only happening in the South side while the same road will still be called Lake shore Drive in the NOrth-utter stupidity.

#7, and I'll bet most of today's city council has never visited the DuSable museum either.
Bet many haven't been to the MLK museum in Atlanta too.

I guess they have enough MLK boulevards. But did the anti-God Marxist have any idea Jean Baptiste was named after John the Baptist? If they were really "woke", they would have given him an honorary African name like "Devondarius".

"Cowards" IF they REALLY wanted to make things "right" they would rename the whole City after him, drop the name "Chicago" completely...Same with Cleveland, Baltimore, new YORK and "Washington" DC.(PS: Fergie is the least loved of the Brit Royals, , naming the Deathplace of Saint Michael Brown after her son is an insult to all POC... worldwide...need to change it to Browntown)

FTA: Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, 35th, said the lack of proper honor for Black leaders has a harmful impact on Black children.
Stroger Hospital is named after the first black president of the Cook County Board, the main public library is named after Mayor Harold Washington but neither of these honors has had any impact on the lives of black children (or anyone else) in this city, nor will the renaming of LSD.

What OP said.
Looked him up. He is more of a legend than reality. The only formal record of him describes him simply as a “negre”… negro. Read his Wikipedia page. Could be true, partially true, or fake as all get out. But when you’re trying to create glowing history to build up a less than glowing race, that is what they seem to do. He may be just the human version of Kwanzaa.

Maybe they'll get around to replacing the name 'Chicago', purportedly of Native American origin. 'most accepted name origin is the Miami-Illinois word "shikaakwa," which means "striped skunk" or "smelly onion". Come to think of it...it's perfect. Government skunks and politics that stink.

My guess is 99% of people will continue to simply call it Lakeshore Drive. Who wants a street name with 7 words?
