In a leaked State Department cable from 2009, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that the Wuhan Institute of Virology could lead to “biological weapons proliferation concern.” The cable, obtained via Wikileaks, was sent from the State Department in June 2009 to all embassies in member nations ahead of the Australia Group plenary session in Paris, September 21-25, 2009. The Australia Group is an international export control forum organized to prevent the spread of technologies and research that could be used in chemical and biological weapons. All Five Eyes nations are members of the group, including the EU, India, Japan, and South Korea. China is not a member of the group.

ICE deportations numbered an all-time low last month with 2,962 illegal immigrants returned to their home countries. Plummeting immigration enforcement is a result of new policies Biden implemented that restrict who qualifies for deportation and what actions ICE is authorized to take. Under new Biden administration rules curtailing immigration enforcement, ICE carried out fewer than 3,000 deportations last month, the lowest level on record. The agency’s 6,000 officers currently average one arrest every two months.

NIH Director Francis Collins confirmed Tuesday that that the National Institutes of Health approved $3.7 million in taxpayer funds to the non-profit group EcoHealth Alliance, which in turn sent $600,000 to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which is suspected to be the source of the coronavirus.
“One of the things that we have to do is to provide some oversight of the monies that have been appropriated to NIH, and for instance, this morning’s front page story in the Wall Street Journal is the Wuhan lab leak debate,” Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) said at a House Appropriations Subcommittee hearing on NIH’s 2022 budget request.
