Poisonous hemlock has been called one of North America's deadliest plants, and it's invading yards in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The toxic weed began making headlines in 2019 when it was spreading across southern Ohio. Now it's popping up in Pennsylvania.
Professors Joe Boggs and Erik Draper stated in the Ohio State University's Buckeye Yard & Garden online blog that the plant could be deadly if consumed by humans and animals.
"Poison hemlock is one of the deadliest plants in North America," Boggs and Draper wrote in the blog. "Plants contain highly toxic piperidine alkaloid compounds, including coniine and gamma-Coniceine, which cause respiratory failure and death in mammals.
Can we post a Tide Pod challenge for this to Millennials and Zoomers?

Got some in my backyard. I don't eat the Impatiens, Roses, Boston Ferns or Lilacs or Hostas.
I THINK I can avoid the Hemlock.

So don't eat unknown plants from your yard. How hard is THAT to figure out?
Life is an ongoing intelligence test. Not everyone is getting a passing grade. Lots of them flunk themselves out every single day. The punishment is carried out without mercy or malice. Just do the wrong stupid stuff, and die.

Socrates said a few things that outraged Athenians. He quite rightly observed that when people stopped believing in the gods living on Mt. Olympus, then the gods would cease to exist. Athenians tired of his cynicism and forced him to drink the hemlock shown in a famous painting by Raphael, Titian, Leonardo, Caravaggio...one of those. I believe the new mathematics aimed at Black children is racism masquerading as Democrat Communist education liberalism. I'll not drink any hemlock, thank you very much.

A lot of plants are toxic - including many that are commonly found in gardens or indoor plants. Even Philodendron, a very common houseplant, can be toxic. I believe an Agatha Christie character was bumped off by the Foxglove flower.

The hysteria about this plant is from the Western, allopathic medical point of view. It is indeed a very poisonous plant, but actually has a long history in herbal medicine. It has been used to treat anxiety, pain, digestive disorders, Parkinsonâs, cysts and tumors and even as an antidote to strychnine. A competent herbalist would use it in very small doses, although it is not used as much as it used to be. It is a beautiful plant, reminiscent of Queen Anneâs Lace, but has telltale purple spots on the stems. Animals know to stay away from it

Cyclamen, lilies, deadly nightshade, the leaves of tomato plants, some palms, caladiums, various mushrooms and on and on and on. Pretty much everyone probably has some poisonous plant or another in their yard and house. If itâs not found in your supermarket, donât eat it.

Poisonous hemlock spreading into Pennsylvania. Women and minorities affected most.
Allow me to be the first to declare this weed to be racist, sexist and transphobic.

And add in oleander, a common subtropical yard shrub. I learned about this one from my mother pointing out the plants around our house in Key West. Some USN sailors on Hawaii in the early 1950s when we lived there had cut sticks for roasting hot dogs over a fire from some bush.......several were very sick and IIRC one died.
Oleander - not for hot dog sticks, but pretty flowers in the side yard.
Don't go eating plants you don't know about. It's not healthy. And "don't worry, it's natural" is a brainless comment that some city folks say. Lots of natural stuff is deadly.
