It's Time to Forget 'Forget the Alamo.' It's Too
Full of Bias and Errors to Be Taken Seriously.

The new book Forget the Alamo is making waves with its claims that the Texas Revolution was a war to preserve slavery, and that the Alamo defenders weren’t brave. I’ve already tackled the absurd and outrageous bravery claim. It’s beneath contempt. The mainstream media thus far have not treated the book’s sensational claims with anything approaching fairness or skepticism. If you could capture a live shot of all of the articles and other media stories about Forget the Alamo they would look quite a bit like this: Where is the independent inquiry? Where are the reporters who have covered the Alamo for yearse the news

People that buy into this kind of pack of lies really shouldn't breed. Maybe that is why the same people deny the reality of male and female.

There are people out there who like nothing better than to ruin things. The Alamo is one of the things that makes Texans a strong and united people, therefore it must be destroyed. Take your sophomoric college BS back to the Soviet Union.

These sorts of "The war was fought for..." arguments are mostly foolish. Wars are fought for all sorts of reasons brought by the governments declaring them and those who bear arms. That Austin should write "The men who are fighting in Texas, are the farmers, the settlers-they are not land speculators-Is it just to condemn them because persons living else where have speculated in Texas lands?" Austin was a speculator who settled colonists in eastern Texas and profited nicely. Today we might call him a fat cat. Austin also overlooked the Mexican ban on slavery, allowing their import to his colony despite assurances to the contrary when the final land grant was made. Did the Tejanos go to war for slavery? Of course not. THEY had their 1824 Constitution and its protections to protect, besides not holding slaves themselves. Santa Anna had all sorts of troubles, and those included American colonists looking to eventually add their territory to the USA. "Forget the Alamo" is one view of Texas history, which will forever be argued from the outset of Austin's colony . Those who fought certainly exhibited bravery. Their highest ideals are admirable. Still, there are many facets to any history, and there are innumerable conflicts and interpretations. History is never absolute. You get to decide which are valid.

Sorry for the second post but one thing I always warn new friends is not to get me started on Texas history: I'll never shut up. Austin as speculator is the 1699 viewpoint. Mexico was looking to fend off colonization by the French, tyvm, so they agreed to allow Anglo settlers to BECOME MEXICAN CITIZENS and sign up for a contract of two years in which they were given a league of land (144 acres) on which they were to cultivate and produce livestock or crops. Stephen was carrying out what his father had worked out with the Mexican Government. Speculation or taking advantage of a situation that no one else was paying attention to? One of the reasons why people were so eager to go to Texas because of the rich alluvial soil of the Brazos and Colorado Rivers. Out of the Old Three Hundred that first signed up with Austin, only two families were sent back to the US. Did they bring slaves with them? Yes, they did. I worked volunteer on a site just NW of Houston of one family that was supposed to have been the first to bring slaves into Tejas. Do I think what they did was right? Of course not! Do I think that justifies Santa Ana tossing out the Mexican Constitution of 1824 that the Anglo settlers agreed to abide by? NO.

Israel says it has launched air strikes against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, after incendiary balloons were launched from the territory. Explosions were heard in Gaza City in the early hours of Wednesday. Several balloons were sent from Gaza into Israel earlier on Tuesday, which caused multiple fires, according to the Israeli fire service. It is the first major flare-up since 11 days of fighting between the two sides ended in a ceasefire on 21 May. It followed a march by Jewish nationalists in occupied East Jerusalem on Tuesday, which had drawn threats from Hamas, the militant group that runs Gaza.

As ideological divisions wracked the Southern Baptist Convention this year ahead of a pivotal national meeting, one of the leading candidates for its presidency, Ed Litton, embraced a role as the man best equipped to build bridges and promote unity. “From time to time, every family has disagreements and tensions,” Litton said in a campaign video. “Because we’re a family, we don’t give up on one another.” On Tuesday he prevailed in a runoff against Georgia pastor Mike Stone to become the next leader of the United States’ largest Protestant denomination, winning about 52% of the votes among more than 15,000 delegates at a meeting roiled

Judge Terry Doughty, of the federal Western District Court of Louisiana, on Tuesday sided with 13 conservative states, led by Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, who sued the Biden administration after it postponed nearly all previously planned sales for the right to lease federally owned land and extract the underlying oil following a January executive order issuing a pause on those sales. Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and West Virginia joined Louisiana in the suit.

Producer prices rose at their fastest annual clip in nearly 11 years in May as inflation continued to build in the U.S. economy, the Labor Department reported Tuesday. The 6.6% surge was the biggest 12-month rise in the final demand index since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began tracking the data in November 2010. On a monthly basis, the producer price index for final demand rose 0.8%, ahead of the Dow Jones estimate of 0.5%. Those higher price pressures came amid a pronounced dip in retail sales, which fell 1.3% in May, worse than the 0.6% estimate

exans have been unpleasantly surprised with blackout and usage warnings from ERCOT this week. That’s the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which was no one’s friend during the great freeze back in February. Its rolling blackouts left Texans alternately freezing and fuming but not quite enough of the latter to keep our homes warm. Many had to go without heat during the worst freeze in the state in living memory. There had been colder snaps here and there through the years, but those were local. In February 2021, the entire state froze over. That demand for heat along with human errors strained and broke the grid.
