More than 21,000 people have signed a letter calling for U.S. Catholic bishops to cancel a planned vote on whether President Biden should receive communion.
Biden, a Catholic, supports abortion rights and has long come under attack from some Catholics over that position. The vote is set to take place next week at a meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. "Pope Francis is clear that mercy, welcome, and pastoral sensitivity should be hallmarks of the church. Follow his pastoral example and listen to your brothers Cardinal Gregory and Bishop McElroy: Stop playing partisan politics with Holy Communion and cancel your planned anti-Biden vote," the petition reads.

Mercy would be cutting him off immediately, because receiving the Body of Christ when you are not in a state of grace is dangerous in the extreme. Mercy would be to stop him from doing this dangerous thing he does not understand, and then, take the heat from others.

You don't have to take a vote to figure out whether killing babies is a sin.

If we started a petition that is totally the opposite of this one, we would have 21,000,000 signatures in just a couple of days!!!!!

It's noteworthy that the article says 21,000 people signed it, not 21,000 Catholics.

What a complete waste of time; straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel. All these foolish essentially symbolic gestures change nothing. The church used to matter to society. Now it has become a group of petition signers.

Only 21,000?
Trump has more people at any rally than I can remember than these books and their petition.
God's law, or less, the Church's law aren't popularity contests.

Well there are a lot more silent Catholics in the USA that follow church teachings who those Bishops should take into account, rather than the 21,000 liberal Democrat supporting Catholics who signed that letter to support Biden and by extension his extreme abortion policies.

I hope that the bishops are not swayed by any petition's. That is not the way things are done. However, I wouldn't put it past the current group of "leaders" who are not principled learned theologians. They are weak spined get along proponents of The Church of "As long as you believe what you're doing is right it doesn't matter what those pesky old Commandments tell you to do."
#1 is completely correct. Even though "Devout Catholic" Joe is a source of scandal, the greatest injury is to his soul when he commits the sacrilege of receiving Communion in a state of Mortal Sin. There is no issue of "mercy, welcome, and pastoral sensitivity" when they ignore one, whose very public sin, not condemns his own soul but is leading others into grave sin. They know they Biden has effectively excommunicated himself and is not a member of The Body of Christ.
BTW...He's married to a divorced woman whose husband is still living, and officiated at illicit marriages.

Wouldn't need to have this vote if the church just took a clear stand against abortion from EVERY pulpit. Our sermons are often incredible pablum void of any mention of sin and hell. It is as if Catholic clergy are too damn afraid to hurt someone's feelings. There is a reason Dante was particularly harsh on priests and their failure to feed Christ's sheep - it is still a problem and I fear the clerical failure of courage has led many a Catholic astray at the cost of our cleric's souls.

What Biden's defenders are ignoring is Catholic Communion is the real body of Christ, not a symbol, Christ is physically present. With friends like that, Biden does not need enemies because he just up front and personally insulted Christ. If the Bishops believed what they say they believe, they would admonish the sinner.

Not a Catholic. If you're gonna call yourself a member of a religious denomination you have to stand by and follow the rules of the religious denomination. You can't be pro-abortion and be a Catholic. Just that simple if you're are pro-abortion then go and join some religion that says it's ok. Don't try and tell any religion what it holds it followers to unless they are teaching to violence against unbelievers or to enslave them. Abortion is a form of violence to an innocent, however you try and bend the truth it remains that.

Wonder what these same 21,000 CINO's (Catholics In Name Only) would say if Hitler and the rest of the Nazi higher ups, were to be resurrected and be deemed entitled to receive Holy Communion on the grounds of "mercy, welcome, and pastoral sensitivity" by the German Catholic Bishops, while continuing with their Nazi program of unjust and inhuman extermination programs against the Jews and the Untermenschen? God's mercy as confirmed by Christ own consistent and constant message while on earth is that Gods unbounded MERCY is only open to the repentant of their sins and commit to giving up their sinful ways and do ONLY God's will..

Like #16 I am not a Catholic but I am a Christian. I donât see how a real Christian can support abortion either. At least when itâs for simple convenience. I can see if the health of the mother is involved but that is extremely rare with modern medicine today.
