Did we ever need masks? It’s a touchy, complex question. People may not want to learn that millions of us covered our faces for 15 months for no good reason after all. But asking the questions is exactly what we must do. Last week, a trove of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s emails were released to the public. In a Feb. 5, 2020, email to a Team Obama health official, the virus guru wrote that masks were for infected people, and that “the typical mask you buy in a drug store is not really effective in keeping out the virus, which is small enough to pass through the material.”

WASHINGTON — Russia’s space chief threatened Monday to withdraw from the International Space Station program if U.S. sanctions against Moscow’s space entities are “not lifted in the near future.” “If the sanctions against Progress and TsNIIMash remain and are not lifted in the near future, the issue of Russia’s withdrawal from the ISS will be the responsibility of the American partners,” Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Rogozin said during a Russian parliament hearing on Monday, according to an NBC translation.

There is still life in a 2020 election fraud lawsuit in northern Michigan. Attorneys for Antrim County and Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson are objecting to a proposed order from Matthew DePerno, the attorney for the plaintiff, filed after a judge rejected an effort last month to force a new audit of the results. In anticipation of an appeal, 13th Circuit Court Judge Kevin Elsenheimer said it was is his understanding that all other matters had been put on hold for the time being and noted the court "will take all pending motions under advisement."

Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said Sunday that he was told Dr. Anthony Fauci had briefed world leaders on the possibility that the novel coronavirus leaked from a lab. Gottlieb told “Face the Nation” host John Dickerson that a senior official in former President Donald Trump’s administration had informed him there was suspicion that the strain “looked unusual,” which prompted Fauci to address the possibility that it had leaked from a research laboratory in Wuhan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday signed a law to officially end the country’s Open Skies Treaty with the U.S. less than two weeks before his meeting with President Biden in Geneva. Last month, the Biden administration told Russia that it had no plans to rejoin the arms control pact that was abandoned during the Trump administration. (Biden, the candidate, called Trump’s move "short-sighted.") Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted last November, "America is more secure" after withdrawing from the 1992 treaty. "Russia remains in noncompliance with its obligations," he said, according to the Arms Control Associatio.

It’s the trollish MAGA slice of the caucus that’s championing this, but for once they have Pelosi at a disadvantage. Why, precisely, are House members still being asked to mask up on the floor? The CDC’s new guidance says that vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks, even indoors. According to CNN, every last Democrat in the House and Senate has been vaxxed. If everyone in the chamber unmasks, the only people who are at risk are unvaccinated Republicans.

Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors was identified in a press release as co-chair of an art company that has profited from several activist groups that call Cullors a co-founder and leader, which charity experts say amounts to self-dealing and raises ethical and legal questions. Black Lives Matter (BLM) Global Network Foundation, BLM PAC and Reform LA Jails — three activist groups Cullors claims to have co-founded and led — have provided business to the art company, Trap Heals, the Daily Caller News Foundation previously reported. Trap Heals was founded and run by Damon Turner, the father of Cullors’ only child, the DCNF found.

Black and Hispanic Americans are statistically underrepresented among those receiving COVID-19 vaccinations, according to data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — a demographic reality overlooked in the ongoing media focus on rural white aversion to the vaccines as the stumbling block to national vaccination goals. As of May 15, black Americans constituted only 8.9% of those who received at least one dose of the vaccine despite being 12.4% of the U.S. population.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday called the violent conflict between Israel and Gaza militants “utterly appalling” and urged for an immediate ceasefire, as the worst outbreak of fighting in years stretches into seven days and takes a heavy toll on civilians. “This latest round of violence only perpetuates the cycles of death, destruction and despair, and pushes farther to the horizon any hopes of coexistence and peace,” Guterres said during a U.N. Security Council meeting.

The Associated Press (AP) denied any knowledge that Jala Tower, the building housing its offices in Gaza, was also shared by Hamas terrorists, as claimed by the Israeli military and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after the office block was bombed on Saturday. AP President and CEO Gary Pruitt denied that the news organization knew Hamas was in the building. In a statement, he said: We are shocked and horrified that the Israeli military would target and destroy the building housing AP’s bureau and other news organizations in Gaza.
