This week, the Baltimore City Public Schools, attempting to avoid holding students back who have poor grades, announced a new grading policy that would enable students who failed one class to still proceed to the next grade. The school district said it was taking the new approach because of effects caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Chief Academic Officer Joan Dabrowski said the new approach is meant to “avoid the punitive approach of failing students,” according to CNN.“This is not about a failure, but it is about unfinished learning and giving multiple opportunities, multiple onramps for young people to complete that … learning,” Baltimore City Public Schools CEO Sonja Santelises added.

What a cop out. How sad for the kids of Baltimore as their city further deteriorates.

Now there's a worthwhile public school goal - no more eighteen-year-old 8th graders. They probably were embarrassed by seniors being the same age as the teachers.

"Failing" isn't actually failing....it's just ....not learning a damned thing, and why would that prevent you from moving to the next grade level?

At the end of four years of failure, let them choose their reward: An M.D., PhD,or perhaps a commercial pilots license.

Teachers in unions do not teach. Such a disservice to the youth in Baltimore. Set up charter schools. No unions

Uh, this has been the fact in southern states since the '60's. Not only can they not fail kids, if a parent requests a child be held back for the benefit of the child, schools were not allowed to do that. Guaranteed to create numbskulls who vote democrat.

This nothing new. It’s been going on for years in schools across the country. It’s why we have high school graduates who are functionally illiterate. Partly because a lot of parents don’t care about their kids’ grades neither do a lot teachers. Easier to pass them on through the system.

The average IQ of a Baltimore student is 85. That says all you need to know. I'm sorry for those students with a higher number. Please continue to study hard and ignore those who call you a "sell out."

Anyone else recall the lawsuits back in the 1980s brought against schools that didn’t provide the education they had promised and that taxpayers funded? I see some of those in our future.

It doesn't matter. Really, it doesn't. In one generation this city will completely collapse under its inability to do literally anything. Non-blacks aren't going to bail them out, either. And this city is not alone...no quality workforce within the city. A dwindling populaltion of aging white folks replaced by urban black dependents, soon to be without a sugar daddy as things collapse around their necks, tax revenues decrease and the surrounding suburbs start to fight off the Democrat attempts to raid "the rich". And they'll blame their problems on...RACISM!

Why worry about grade and passing high school when the government will take care of them once they graduate as illiterate adults. Once the baby mammas start getting their monthly child tax credit checks for their multiple children, get their Medicaid, food stamps, and subsidized housing; they will be set. They will probably get additional stimulus checks to help out too. The baby daddy's will just live off their women and emulate their role models like George Floyd. Sure they won't be able to read, do math, write; but that won't be their fault. Nope. White Supremacists did it to them over years of suppression. They couldn't act too white and do well in school or get jobs. They need to "show the man" that he can't keep them down and disrespect them. Baltimore schools are just perpetuating the Black oppression and suppressing any chance that blacks of climbing out of the hole that hey have created.

In the old sitcom "The Jefferson's", they dreamed of movin on up, to the East Side to a Deluxe Apartment in the Sky..... Today, in Baltimore, the kids get to be movin on up for just living through the year in school. In the Jefferson's, they got to move on up through hard work to a better life. George and his wife did not let their race get in the way of being successful. Baltimore schools on the other hand, seems to use race as an excuse for poor performance and actually makes excuses for the continued failures of their school system to educate their mostly black student population year after year after year. They are creating a permanent uneducated black underclass. Baltimore schools seems content for students to be movin on up, but without the hard work or the success that will come with it for the students. They are just moving on up to different run down Public Housing, not the Deluxe Apartment in the Sky.

It is my opinion that a crime, (poor to no education) has been committed by schools, school boards, elected "officials" and above all the democrats. They have purposely kept school children, mostly black children, from receiving competent schooling. My son was in a middle school, along with 20 year old moustached boys. With girls who were pregnant and showing a soon delivery date. The students could not read or do math properly. I took my son out of that school and enrolled him in a private school. Parents whose children are struggling should have the right to a proper education. A worthwhile time in school. Have full confidence in themselves. I don't know if this ripped off "education program/plan" for our children is still around. Every child deserves an education. I'ts a God given right. This is discrimination of the worst kind. And...parents should keep after the school boards, teachers and political donkies. How would a 19 year old girl/boy going to school, a middle school, with 12 and 13 year old kids. I'd say they felt humiliated. NO self-worth.

Here's a suggestion. Once AOC is successful in getting rid of all of the cows in the country, these uneducated imbeciles can become the new cattle. They obviously can't give milk so they will become beef cattle. Voila! Soylent Green.
The situation is pathetic, considering that a motivated kid with a library card can get ten times the education that these "students" are getting in these horrible public schools, for free.

Why even bother? Give them the paper, send them out on the streets. They don't want to be there and probably would be shot within two years or less anyway. Teachers would be happy to teach only the ones who want an education (if there are any?)

This has been going on for years. It's standard operating procedure in Baltimore. Recently, the news media focused on one kid slated to graduate from high school, and discovered he not only didn't pass any class since ninth grade, he hasn't attended any class since then either. Now as ridiculous as that sounds, his mother stated she didn't know it either.

Nothing surprising here. The democRATS are looking for a permanent underclass to keep voting them into office. If this keeps up the country will turn into a third world country very soon.
