Israel's secret weapon: We have
nowhere else to go - comment

There’s a story that US President Joe Biden has told many times over the years about his first trip to Israel. As a freshman senator in 1973, Biden was granted a meeting with prime minister Golda Meir, who together with Yitzhak Rabin briefed Biden on the many threats Israel faced, showing him a series of maps. (Snip) So what is Israel’s secret weapon, Biden asked eagerly. “We have nowhere else to go,” replied Golda. Golda’s words are as relevant today as ever, with the past two weeks of another mini-war with Hamas and the accompanying spike of antisemitism only further proving her point.

Comments:

Don't be put off -- this piece isn't about Biden; it's about anti-Semitism and Israel and history.

I wish White Christian people had a place to go. USA and most of Europe are consumed with a brand of Marxism that demonizes them in particular.

This week, a California District Court approved the settlement of Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry's lawsuit against Gov. Gavin Newsom, establishing the first state-wide permanent injunction in the country against COVID restrictions on churches and places of worship. The Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit religious rights law firm, represented Harvest Rock in their legal proceedings against the governor and the state. Under the settlement agreement, discriminatory restrictions on worship and religious gatherings may no longer be applied to churches and places of worship. Happy Whit Monday to my Commonwealth cousins throughout the Caribbean and the Pacific, and to our readers in much of Continental Europe. (Snip) Front page news from yesterday's New York Times: World Is Facing First Long Slide in Its Population Me in my international bestseller fifteen years ago: The single most important fact about the early 21st century is the rapid aging of almost every developed nation other than the United States: Canada, Europe and Japan are getting old fast, older than any functioning society has ever been and faster than any has ever aged... These countries – or, more precisely, these people – are going out of business.

Two and a half months ago, when Texas Governor Greg Abbott axed the state’s mask mandate and other COVID-related restrictions on businesses and people, Joe Biden called the move a “huge mistake” and “Neanderthal thinking.” Dr. Anthony Fauci, who advises Biden, called it “risky” and “potentially dangerous.” Both were proven wrong when weeks later Texas experienced no surge in cases. A dumbfounded Fauci refused to admit he was wrong and claimed that a spike in cases and deaths would show up as a lagging indicator.

For more than a year, honest and impartial scientific exploration of the origins of the Covid-19 virus has been blocked, with consideration of the possibility that it was engineered in the Wuhan Institute of Virology virtually suppressed, mocked as a “conspiracy theory.” This has had enormous real-world consequences, not merely because it let off the hook China – and Dr. Fauci, who approved American money flowing to gain-of-function research there on coronaviruses -- but because “an engineered virus behaves differently from a naturally evolved one, and this has implications for how it can best be fought.”

President Joe Biden has been moving at breakneck speed to undo every policy of his predecessor that he can, but he seems not to be giving any thought to whether the underlying policy is good. If former President Donald Trump made it, Biden will unmake it—even if he later has to remake it, as in the case of recently resumed border wall construction. Among the orders worth retaining that Biden nonetheless axed is Executive Order 13980. That order required agencies that issue regulations with criminal penalties to “be explicit about what conduct is subject to criminal penalties and the ‘mens rea’ standard applicable to those offenses.”

The article “Origin of COVID - Following the Clues” by Nicholas Wade is a comprehensive investigation into the COVID19 pandemic. Wade is a science journalist who has written articles for the big publishers. His Origin of COVID article is a clear-eyed analysis of what we do and don’t know. He tells us the details that lead a reasonable reader to conclude that the Wuhan Virology Institute created the COVID19 virus and through sloppy techniques released the virus. The disease spread rapidly, killing millions and attacking elderly populations in particular.

Sometimes when psychopaths, religious and otherwise—people whose charter urges the faithful to “kill all Jews,” even Jewish trees, whatever that is or could be—rain missiles on your country again and again, try to destroy you any way they can, dig tunnels under your property, loft flaming balloons over your schools and farms, fly drones toward your airports and even nuclear installations, it’s time to say “enough!” Or, in the local parlance, “dayenu.” It is time to put paid once and for all to the evil terror organizations Hamas and Islamic Jihad that have been attacking the heartland of Israel virtually ever since Israel freely gave Gaza to the Palestinians,

If every cloud has a silver lining, COVID’s silver, from which we should try to benefit, has shone the light on the shallowness and fragility of our commonsense. Few of us are immune to the all-powerful assault of fear -- of death for ourselves or those we love -- a favorite toxin employed by anyone whose main goal is control of the target. It began fourteen months ago when death was served up in huge helpings with morning coffee. The initial assault was blitzkrieg shock -- irresistible. But two months further on, with data rolling in, too few of us asked too few questions

A Texas judge tossed out the National Rifle Association’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition on Tuesday, allowing a lawsuit brought against the group by the New York attorney general to move forward. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Harlin Hale said the NRA “did not file the bankruptcy petition in good faith,” arguing that the filing was made in an effort to avoid the lawsuit by state attorney general Letitia James’ office. The suit aims to dissolve the group over allegations of financial impropriety. “The question the court is faced with is whether the existential threat facing the NRA is the type of threat that the Bankruptcy Code is meant to protect against,” Hale wrote.

Economics professor Doug Allen wanted to know why so many early models used to create COVID-19 lockdown policies turned out to be highly incorrect. What he found was that a great majority were based on false assumptions and “tended to over-estimate the benefits and under-estimate the costs.” He found it troubling that policies such as total lockdowns were based on those models. (Snip) Allen says most of the early cost-benefit studies that he reviewed didn’t try to distinguish between mandated and voluntary changes in people’s behaviour in the face of a pandemic. Rather, they just assumed an exponential growth of cases of infection day after day until herd immunity is reached.

Yesterday, Peter Doocy asked Jen Psaki why President Biden wasn’t pressing for more information on the Wuhan lab leak theory. “We have repeatedly called for the WHO to support an expert-driven evaluation of the pandemic’s origins,” Psaki replied. That answer was very troubling, I observed in our story on Psaki’s response. Is there an American investigation still ongoing into the question from the Biden team, I asked? Because it doesn’t sound like it, from what Psaki was saying — and because we surely can’t trust anything that WHO concludes on the matter, given their prior actions. Turns out that was a good question to ask. Because now there are reports
