Former President Donald Trump's lawyer argued in a new filing that the speech he delivered on January 6 before the MAGA riot was protected by the First Amendment and he had 'absolute immunity' as president to contest the election. The claim filed in D.C. District Court was in response to a lawsuit from Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell, one of the House's impeachment managers, seeking to hold Trump legally accountable for inciting an insurrection after Democrats were unable to get an impeachment conviction in the U.S. Senate. Trump's lawyer said that the president's bully pulpit message at the 'Save America' rally was a constitutionally protected presidential act, according to CNN,

Joe Biden is sleepy. He’s slow. He’s aloof. And he calls it a day early—very early at times. Yet, The New York Times did a lengthy piece about the inner workings of this White House to confirm what we already knew, along with insight into what foods he hates to be served in public events and his favorite drink, which is apparently orange Gatorade. It’s the anti-Trump piece in the sense that it shows how Joe comes to a decision which is at a pace slower than a Galapagos tortoise. Yes, that part we knew. His decision-making process is as torturous as this presidency. And the publication notes

In the last twelve months we have been ceaselessly bombarded by claims that America is a racist society in which Black people are oppressed by White people. This is a truly astonishing claim because nothing could be further from the truth. You can conduct a quick reality check yourself. Despite their fervent accusations of racism, those who make them have not been able to point to a single racist law, ordinance or practice in the whole of the United States. This holds true across the spectrum: the federal, state and local levels. If the United States were indeed an institutionally racist society, you could surely find at least one law or practice

Today is the 80th birthday of Robert Allen Zimmerman of Hibbing, Minn., better known to the world as Bob Dylan. Few American musicians have attracted more praise or influenced more artists than Dylan. He even won a Nobel Prize in Literature for his lyrics. Dylan is loved by some and respected without affection by others, yet, for many, the sound of his voice and the words of his songs produce a reflexive revulsion. Either way, Dylan has always been more complex and interesting than the public image embraced by casual fans and bitter detractors alike. Dylan hitting “the big 8-0” is a generational milestone.
