California's population fell by more than 182,000 people in 2020, marking the first year-over-year loss ever recorded for the nation's most populous state. State officials announced Friday that California's population dipped 0.46% to just under 39.5 million people from January 2020 to January 2021. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said she plans to leave the role next year to spend more time with her family.
"I think it's going to be time for somebody else to have this job in a year from now or about a year from now," Psaki said in an interview with CNN's David Axelrod, her former colleague in the Obama administration, on Thursday.
Psaki, who delivers regular press briefings as the public face of President Joe Biden's administration, said she wanted to be able to spend more time with her two young children.

Democratic strategist James Carville doubled down Saturday on Democrats’ wokeness problem that he says could cost the party dearly in 2022 and 2024.
Carville joined CNN’s Michael Smerconish to discuss the issue, and he argued that the fixation on wokeness was preventing Democrats from reaching real people and costing them voters.“Correct me if I am wrong, it is questioning — not that you are questioning any one aspect of what gets lumped into wokeness but I think you are saying as a political strategy this dog doesn’t hunt,” Smerconish prompted after introducing Carville.

The GOP-controlled Oklahoma House passed a bill, 70-19, banning critical race theory (CRT) from public schools, including colleges and universities.

Video released Wednesday morning shows a Chicago police officer fatally shoot Anthony Alvarez as he ran from police with a gun in his hand in the Portage Park neighborhood.
The shooting occurred after Chicago Police Department officers say they tried “to stop and speak” to Alvarez.
“Why are you shooting me?” Alvarez is heard saying in the video.
The officer responds: “You had a gun!”

A NYPD detective was attacked while he was just standing there doing his job, minding his own business, when out of nowhere a man came over and hit him on the head with a stick.
The person stood there looking confused for a second, the detective fell over, and then cops pursued the suspect on foot.
A later news report said the suspect was arrested.
CBS Local reported, "It happened just before noon while the detective was investigating a burglary on Prince Street in Flushing, Queens. Police arrested 25-year-old Akeele Morgan. He faces multiple charges, including assault on a police officer."
