The CEO of a major cruise line has expressed concern regarding a new law in Florida that bans businesses from asking whether employees and customers have been vaccinated against coronavirus. “In Florida, your personal choice regarding vaccinations will be protected and no business or government entity will be able to deny you services based on your decision,” Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a statement. Senate Bill 2006, which was signed into law on Monday, also prohibits requiring any sort of COVID-19 or vaccine passports. Frank Del Rio, the CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, acknowledged that while Florida is the cruise capital of the world,

Comments:

The vaxxed population is at great risk from the unvaxxed, it seems. Gov. DeSantis is in the vanguard in opposing moves from so-called private industry to make people show their papers; more should follow suit. Meanwhile, does Norwegian Cruise Lines require an all-clear for HIV, or herpes, or tuberculosis, etc?

Idle threat. The cruise lines are all hurting after a year of pandemic sitting idle. Stop sailing out of Florida, and go broke. It's that simple. Texas just welcomed back the Carnival ships to Galveston. Talk about a celebration in Galveston, as so many jobs will return with the cruise ships.

I don't see how asking about health history of anyone isn't a violation of the HIPAA laws.

Methinks Senor Frank Del Rio is just flapping his gums in case any of his fellow CEO's push him. He probably thinks Florida is THE place to be and the rule means a lot less trouble for his ship and crew, not to mention his passengers. Captain Stubing, you are needed on the Bridge.

See ya, Norwegian. I went on one of your cruises once, and would never do it again. You are NOT a “major cruise line,” but rather a minor player, and not a very good one at that. You need Florida a heck of a lot more than they need you.

Let’s say you have a lifelong debilitating reaction or death, as some have had. Can the Cruise Line that compelled you to take it be sued The Emergency Use Authorization forbids these actions, so the Cruise Line is already breaking the law. You can’t sue the Pharma Company because it’s not an FDA approved drug and you VOLUNTEERED (yeah right) to be a Guinea pig.

If I recall, the crew vaccinations are a Federal requirement as a condition for returning to US ports. Florida "protects" its residents from being asked. This creates a conundrum. The cruise lines are at the mercy of the Federal government. I expect some sort of exception or relaxation...ships are foreign flagged with largely international crews merely "passing through". And the cruising public expects these to be vaccinated in the name of safety after the ships were the early poster children for COVIDS contagion. Florida has much invested in new and renovated port facilities for the cruise industry. I would guess NCL is acting the stalking horse. So, it's Florida's move. The bonds on those new facilities can burn through cash with no return.

Actually, no questions are needed. Passengers without a vaccination card would not be permitted to board, similar to showing a driver’s license to purchase a drink in a bar.

The eastern superpower has tripled its emission levels since the 1990s, crossing the 14 gigatons threshold for the first time ever in 2019. Emission estimates for 190 nations across the globe were calculated by experts from research firm Rhodium Group in tandem with Breakthrough Energy. The analysis considered six greenhouse gases—carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulphur hexafluoride. Global emissions have risen 11.4 per cent in the last decade to reach 52 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent

The administration on Friday authorized $21.6 billion for emergency rental assistance to help prevent evictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Treasury Department announced. Treasury said the money will come from the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan signed into law by President Biden in February. New guidance issued Friday said the aid “must be offered directly to renters when landlords do not accept direct payment.” The move comes after a federal judge in Washington ruled this week that an eviction moratorium imposed by the Centers for Disease Control was not authorized by federal law. Biden, a devout Catholic, typically ends his public remarks with the phrase 'May God bless you all, and God protect our troops' - but his proclamation for Thursday's Day of Prayer contained no such acknowledgement of a higher power. 'Prayer has nourished countless souls and powered moral movements — including essential fights against racial injustice, child labor, and infringement on the rights of disabled Americans,' the proclamation read in part.
