White House press secretary Jen Psaki said she plans to leave the role next year to spend more time with her family. "I think it's going to be time for somebody else to have this job in a year from now or about a year from now," Psaki said in an interview with CNN's David Axelrod, her former colleague in the Obama administration, on Thursday. Psaki, who delivers regular press briefings as the public face of President Joe Biden's administration, said she wanted to be able to spend more time with her two young children.

Reporters out of Chicago are alleging that Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot is now granting interviews only to journalists of color.
NBC 5 Chicago political reporter Mary Ann Ahern took to Twitter on Tuesday to mark the "midway point" of Lightfoot's first term in office and apparently acknowledged her failed effort to land an interview.
"As @chicagosmayor reaches her two year midway point as mayor, her spokeswoman says Lightfoot is granting 1 on 1 interviews - only to Black or Brown journalists," Ahern tweeted.
In a House hearing on Wednesday on Examining Emergent BioSolutions' Failure to Protect Public Health and Public Funds, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) called for a full investigation into the origins of COVID-19, which emerged from Wuhan, China, early in 2020 and spread across the world at breakneck speed.
"Where did this thing start?" Jordan asked a question that Americans have been now asking for well over a year. "Did it jump from an animal to humans? Or was it a leak from from a lab? A lab in Wuhan, China? The American people would probably like to know. After all, they've had their liberties assaulted for the past year."

The Democratic Rep. who allegedly farted on television got into a verbal altercation with an aide for Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. That would be Eric Swalwell and he addressed the situation on TV.
MSNBC posted: "After leaving the House floor, an aide to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene yelled at Rep. Eric Swalwell to take his mask off. Swalwell said he has had enough of Greene's "marauding goons" who try to "terrorize" his colleagues in Congress."
Swalwell posted on social media: "I had a mask on as I stepped off the Floor. An aide with @mtgreenee yelled at me to take my mask off...."
Penn State has announced that they will move away from their "male-centric academic history" by banning all language that refers to gender.
The Penn State Senate Committee on Curricular Affairs has approved a motion entitled, "Removal of Gendered & Binary Terms from Course and Program Descriptions." Under the motion, Penn State will scrap titles such as "Freshman" through to "Senior" and remove all language including "he/him/his and she/her/hers.

Former Rep. Paul Mitchell (R-Mich.) is blasting House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for scheduling a vote to determine Rep. Liz Cheney‘s (R-Wyo.) future in House Republican leadership.
During Tuesday’s appearance on CNN, Mitchell was asked what he thought of McCarthy’s role in the push to oust Cheney from her leadership position.

California's population fell by more than 182,000 people in 2020, marking the first year-over-year loss ever recorded for the nation's most populous state.
State officials announced Friday that California's population dipped 0.46% to just under 39.5 million people from January 2020 to January 2021.
