ATLANTA — The Atlanta Civil Service Board has reversed the termination of Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe, charged in the shooting death of Rayshard Brooks. “Due to the City’s failure to comply with several provisions of the Code and the information received during witnesses’ testimony, the Board concludes the Appellant was not afforded his right to due process. Therefore, the Board GRANTS the Appeal of Garrett Rolfe and revokes his dismissal as an employee of the APD,” the statement read. Last month, Rolfe appealed the city’s decision to fire him in the wake of the 2020 killing of Brooks outside

Mayor Lanced Bottom made a big show out of firing him at the time.

Good to see that the officer is reinstated. For those who forget in the blur of black criminals which Ben Crump has tried to turn into heroes for financial gain, the article fairly notes that when being arrested, Brooks grabbed an officer's taser (officially classed as a deadly weapon by Georgia law) fired it at the officer, ran, and was pursued. Brooks turned and aimed the taser at the officer again, and was shot and died. It seems reasonable to me that shooting an arrestee aiming a deadly weapon at an officer as justified, yet there was burning, rioting and looting for many days afterwards, as Brooks was pronounced "unarmed" by people stirring up mob violence for political gains.

As expected, Rep. Charlie Crist announced today that he will run for governor of Florida. Crist, a former Republican, is one of the biggest charlatans in American politics, in my view. Crist will have company in the quest for the Democratic nomination. Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, the only Democrat to recently win statewide in Florida, and Rep. Val Demings, a House impeachment manager, are considered likely to join him. The Democratic nominee will have plenty of resources with which to take on the Republican incumbent, Ron DeSantis. A juror in the Derek Chauvin trial has defended attending an anti-police protest as an expert warns it could be used to overturn the murder conviction. Brandon Mitchell was one of the 12 jurors who convicted ex-Minneapolis cop Chauvin of second and third-degree murder and manslaughter over the killing of George Floyd. SEATTLE — After an incident in late April when an employee of Chocolati in Wallingford refused to serve a pair of Seattle police officers, the company announced in a Facebook post that the company is parting ways with the employee. Facebook was justified in banning then-President Donald Trump from its platform the day after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, but it needs to reassess how long the ban will remain in effect, the social network’s quasi-independent Oversight Board said Wednesday. The decision to uphold the ban is a blow to Trump's hopes to post again to Facebook or Instagram anytime soon, but it opens the door to him eventually returning to the platforms. Facebook must complete a review of the length of the suspension within six months, the board said.
