Here’s something you don’t hear every day. In North Carolina Tuesday, an official was relieved of his position. As relayed by the Greensboro News and Record, construction contractor Tony Collins was unanimously kicked off the Greensboro City Council’s Zoning Commission. The reason: The day before, he’d addressed Carrie Rosario — who has her doctorate degree — as “Carrie” and “Mrs. Rosario.” She’d repeatedly requested to be called “Dr. Rosario.”

Comments:

I guess she gets her cues from "Dr. Jill."

I use the term Doctor when speaking to or referring to a REAL doctor, a medical doctor, a DO, a DDS, a DVM etc. in academia, in class, it’s doctor or professor etc. PhD’s who insist on doctor not covered by the above are vain, insecure individuals. All, IMHO.

McClatchy Newspapers style guidelines perfectly describe how 99.999% of the people feel regarding Ms. Rosario PhD's request to be called Doctor. Those guidelines state that the “Dr.” title is for individuals with a medical degree and only on the first reference. Ms. Rosario is clearly not and MD. As Mr. Collins also clearly and politely pointed out, Ms. Rosario was identified on whatever he was reading of of as Carrie Rosario. If she wanted to be referred to as Dr. Rosario, she should have noted that when adding he name to the agenda. Did she think that the Dr. before her name would make people value her opinion more. After her exchange with Mr. Collins, I highly doubt that I would have paid much attention to anything that she said regarding the agenda item.

Silly argument. Graduates with PHD’s are conferred with the title of Dr. It may not make sense to many but it’s a fact. If someone wants to legitimately use the title let them. Who is it hurting? This guy deliberately acted like an ass and got what he deserved.

A shortage of semiconductor chips continues to impact both automotive industry employees and those looking to buy a car. Industry analysts say the shortage could last through the end of the year and possibly into 2022. "The microchip crisis is probably the worst crisis I’ve seen in the auto industry, at least in my career, in terms of supply chain," General Motors President Mark Reuss told Fox Business. General Motors has idled several plants across the country in the last several weeks as the lack of semiconductors meant vehicles could not be made.

On a recent walk, I came across a neighborhood littered with the yard sign in this photo. It seems the provocative platitudes we’ve seen on bumper stickers for a century have now taken root in our yards. And for the same reason: To tell the world that the sign-planter holds wonderful beliefs that he’s willing to impose upon and attribute to the rest of his family. It’s surely not because the sign-planter thinks he’s persuading anyone of the rightness of his position, as if the neighbors reading the sign will say to themselves, “Gee, ‘Democracy dies in darkness’ is a great point. I’d never thought of it that way.”

The symbol, which is often referred to as the “OK” sign, has been tied to white supremacists. Context does matter. One fan pointed out that Donohue held up fingers during his previous introductions in correlation to how many games he had won, and coming into Tuesday he had won three games so he held up three fingers. CNN’s Chris Cuomo railed against the Census Bureau on his show Monday with his guest Michael Smerconish and intimated that the agency is actively helping Republicans increase their numbers in Congress. As mandated in the Constitution, the Census Bureau is tasked with tracking the nation’s population growth by state. It then appropriates the number of seats each state gets in the House of Representatives and that is directly connected to the Electoral College calculation. They stick to the numbers since they are part of the U.S. Federal Statistical System.Cuomo seems to believe there is something nefarious going on rather than straight-up demographics.
