Here’s something you don’t hear every day.
In North Carolina Tuesday, an official was relieved of his position.
As relayed by the Greensboro News and Record, construction contractor Tony Collins was unanimously kicked off the Greensboro City Council’s Zoning Commission. The reason: The day before, he’d addressed Carrie Rosario — who has her doctorate degree — as “Carrie” and “Mrs. Rosario.” She’d repeatedly requested to be called “Dr. Rosario.”

Another "mail-order degree" from one of our ubiquitous "beltway colleges?"

I use the term Doctor when speaking to or referring to a REAL doctor, a medical doctor, a DO, a DDS, a DVM etc. in academia, in class, it’s doctor or professor etc.
PhD’s who insist on doctor not covered by the above are vain, insecure individuals. All, IMHO.

Reminds one of Alexander Vindmand demanding civilian members of Congress to refer to him as Lt Colonel Vindman. Pompous, narcissistic, self aggrandizing, and simply insecure really.

McClatchy Newspapers style guidelines perfectly describe how 99.999% of the people feel regarding Ms. Rosario PhD's request to be called Doctor. Those guidelines state that the “Dr.” title is for individuals with a medical degree and only on the first reference. Ms. Rosario is clearly not and MD. As Mr. Collins also clearly and politely pointed out, Ms. Rosario was identified on whatever he was reading of of as Carrie Rosario. If she wanted to be referred to as Dr. Rosario, she should have noted that when adding he name to the agenda. Did she think that the Dr. before her name would make people value her opinion more. After her exchange with Mr. Collins, I highly doubt that I would have paid much attention to anything that she said regarding the agenda item.

Several years ago I met a pompous man and, trying to be friendly, asked him if he preferred to be addressed as Robert or Bob. He replied that he preferred to be addressed as Doctor. “Okay Doctor, please call me Colonel or Sir, your choice.”
We didn’t become friends.

Silly argument. Graduates with PHD’s are conferred with the title of Dr. It may not make sense to many but it’s a fact. If someone wants to legitimately use the title let them. Who is it hurting? This guy deliberately acted like an ass and got what he deserved.

Unless you are a M.D. or D.O. it is inappropriate in a public setting to be addressed as Doctor. Among her fellow PhDs, fine. Out in the real world not so much. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue in a plane emergency? “Is there a Doctor aboard?” Gads...

I used to work with a woman who was like that. She had a doctorate in some environmental carp or other, and insisted on being called doctor. She was white but looked like a sasquatch with no bra in short pants. She was the company joke.
