Shortly after a video emerged of Vice President Kamala Harris not saluting troops while boarding Air Force Two on March 19 in Georgia, some users took to social media to claim that she had disrespected the military and violated protocol. This morning another video surfaced where Kamala Harris this time gives some sort of “salute” to the marines before climbing up the stairs to “Air Force None”

Comments:

I guess she would be flying on a magic carpet. Just like the rest of the administration’s actions. Everything they do is a show. And what's with the salute, that's probably the worst salute I've ever seen!

Her deigning to salute is as insulting as her saluting in the first place.

Except the 'coffee, tea, or me?' part, #2.. I don't like this business of the president or vice president saluting. President Reagan started the tradition, and I was against it then. And I have no idea, nor does he I suspect, exactly who Dementia Jo is saluting when he gets to the top of the steps on Air Force One. Biden reminds me of Manley Mebbins. Manley resided in the village of Edinboro, Pennsylvania, back in the 1950s. He was probably in his 30s, and suffered from Down Syndrome. And he was relentlessly cheerful. Edinboro had two parades each year - Memorial Day parade, and the homecoming parade for Edinboro State Teachers College. And in each of those parades, Manley, wearing a bright red sweater, would place himself at the head of the parade, salute, and hold that salute for the length of the parade. And he smiled, non stop. I consider Manley Mebbins to be superior to Dementia Jo.

Everything in the picture looks staged. First, there are no Marines in sight, making the author seem unqualified to comment on the matter. They uniformed personnel present are all Air Force and even they look like "props." The Chief master Sergeant, the most senior enlisted rank in the Air Force, looks to be about 30 years old and the Staff Sergeant, a mid-level enlisted rank, appears to be 60. The officer nearest the boarding stairs is "uncovered," or not wearing a uniform hat, which is outside the norm, when serving on an honor detail and in some of the services, one does not render or return a salute if "uncovered." There is no "military protocol" for a civilian leader , or otherwise, to render a salute to uniformed personnel. In fact, military personnel are not to salute when out of uniform. I believe Reagan started that tradition as a show of respect to the military, who had been beaten down during the Carter administration, ionistration. Not even Eisenhower saluted his escort but he was also a retired five-star general and well understood military protocol. Very few civilians, including various Commanders in Chief, and more than a few service members have learned to salute properly. As much as I hate to admit it, Obama deserves credit for his crisp, proper salute but he had probably been required to salute Michelle when she gave him orders, long before he became president.

Loved the broom comment above. Obama had to get coached on saluting. She (known around my laptop as The Laughing Camel) wouldn't be the first to need such a lesson. But this elaborate staging really raises my green screen antennae, and I wonder if their intention isn't to edit past videos, to simply change history.

Sens. Ted Cruz., R-Texas, Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., railed against court-packing as an effort to “rig” the Supreme Court and pleaded with President Biden to buck “crazies” in his party who support the idea. “Packing the court and tearing down the institutions that protect our rights is fundamentally wrong,” Cruz said. He said the court-packing plan would “destroy judicial independence.”

A year after 20-year-old U.S. Army Spc. Vanessa Guillen was reported missing from Fort Hood in Texas, her family appealed to President Biden on Thursday to make good on his campaign promises by joining in their fight to end sexual violence in the military and backing a newly introduced bill named for the slain soldier. Natalie Khawam, an attorney representing the family, contrasted how Guillen’s case and that of George Floyd were handled after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted this week for the murder and manslaughter of Floyd last May.
