In the past year, essentially every person on planet earth has experienced a certain degree of loss. [SNIP] For me and my family, that person was my uncle, Rush Limbaugh.
For a year, not just our family, but countless loving fans prayed and petitioned for Uncle Rush to be healed. Shortly after he received his diagnosis, I was texting with Uncle Rush and sent him Romans 8:28 as encouragement: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." He wrote me back, "Christen, I believe that verse to a T!"

The owner of a West Side Cincinnati area bar refuses to show NBA games on television anymore over statements LeBron James made about a fatal police shooting of a teen in Columbus.
The games can go back on the TVs at Linne's Pub in Delhi Township when James is "expelled" from the league, said bar owner Jay Linneman.
The Los Angeles Laker forward and Ohio native posted on Twitter "YOU'RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY" with an hourglass emoji. The photo, according to an ESPN report, was of a Columbus police officer identified as the person who fired the fatal shot.

Corn, wheat, soybeans, vegetable oils: A small handful of commodities form the backbone of much of the world’s diet and they’re dramatically more expensive, flashing alarm signals for global shopping budgets.
This week, the Bloomberg Agriculture Spot Index — which tracks key farm products — surged the most in almost nine years, driven by a rally in crop futures. With global food prices already at the highest since mid-2014, this latest jump is being closely watched because staple crops are a ubiquitous influence on grocery shelves — from bread and pizza dough to meat and even soda.
Soaring raw material prices have broad repercussions for households and businesses.

Kiersten Hening, a former Virginia Tech women’s soccer player, is suing her former coach after she was allegedly benched and forced off the team because she didn’t want to kneel during a pregame demonstration last September.
Hening, 21, was a midfielder/defender for the Hokies from 2018 to 2020. In a federal lawsuit filed last month, Hening said that her former coach, Charles Adair, wasn’t a fan of her political views. According to the documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Hening said during the peak of the Black Lives Matter movement last summer, she often had a difference of opinion from her teammates on social justice topics.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is moving to eliminate all accelerated math options prior to 11th grade, effectively keeping higher-achieving students from advancing as they usually would in the school system.
Loudoun County school board member Ian Serotkin posted about the change via Facebook on Tuesday. According to Serotkin, he learned of the change the night prior during a briefing from staff on the Virginia Mathematics Pathway Initiative (VMPI).

New York Times columnist Paul Krugman suggested on Thursday that the violence that has plagued cities over the past year was a figment of Republicans' imagination.
Krugman knocked Republicans on Twitter for "only" being concerned about illegal immigration and the deficit in comparison to Democrats, who according to a Pew study are overwhelmingly concerned about gun violence, racism, the coronavirus, climate change, affordable healthcare, and economic inequality.
"You might think that it would be hard to obsess over the deficit when it was actually Trump who blew the deficit up, to zero complaints from his party," Krugman tweeted.

Evie magazine unpacked analysis of a Pew Research Center survey published last year, and subsequently arrived at the compelling possibility that science is telling us left-wing ideology and mental illness are correlated.
Andrew Stiles at the Washington Free Beacon drew attention Monday to the Evie magazine piece, published last week, showing the March 2020 Pew Research data revealed white liberals are more likely than other ideological/racial groups to have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder.
With a focus on younger women’s health and relationship issues, Evie’s Elizabeth Condra noted that over 50 percent of white, liberal women under 30 have been diagnosed with a mental health condition at some point.

Lakers star LeBron James’ sponsors and the league he plays for have remained silent in the wake of his tweet targeting an Ohio police officer. [SNIP] But regardless of whether the fans have accepted James’ reasoning, his sponsors seem unconcerned by his tweet targeting a police officer.
Thus far, sponsors and partners including Nike, 2K Sports, AT&T, Beats Electronics, Blake Pizza, Coca-Cola, GMC, KIA Motors, Nike, RIMOWA, Upper Deck, State Farm, and Walmart have remained silent over James’ threatening tweet.

A few years ago I noted the sharp growth in acid attacks in the UK.
While acid attacks are commonplace in certain Muslim countries, they were not normative to western ones. Until immigration reshaped the UK.
Acid attacks in London rose from 162 in 2012 to 454 last year. There have already been 199 acid attacks this year. [SNIP] Newham is the London borough with the highest number of acid attacks. It also has the second-highest percentage of Muslims in the UK. 398 acid attacks occurred in 5 years in the area ..."

The number of Americans applying for unemployment aid fell last week to 547,000, a new low since the pandemic struck and a further encouraging sign that layoffs are slowing on the strength of an improving job market.
The Labor Department said Thursday that applications declined 39,000 from a revised 586,000 a week earlier.
Weekly jobless claims are down sharply from a peak of 900,000 in early January.

Fox News conservative commentator Tomi Lahren triggered an online mob of far-left zealots Tuesday when she noted on Twitter that, with former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin having been convicted in the death of criminal suspect George Floyd, Black Lives Matter extremists have no reason to riot anymore.
“You got your justice so I’d assume there will be peace in Minneapolis tonight? No rioting? No looting? No harassing officers? Is the Foot Locker safe tonight? Should be, right? Justice, right? No need to steal in the name of George Floyd anymore, right?”

A UK technology company is inserting customised product placement into films and TV shows – even those that were originally released decades ago.
London-based firm Mirriad inserts products or signage, like a branded beer bottle on a table to a clothing advert on a giant billboard, into streaming content.
The firm uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse films and TV episodes for space where the ads or objects can be subtly inserted.
It means old Hollywood classics like Casablanca or The Great Escape could soon appear on streaming services with the newest ads in the background, like a new Apple smartphone or the latest McDonald's whopper.
