The number of Americans applying for unemployment aid fell last week to 547,000, a new low since the pandemic struck and a further encouraging sign that layoffs are slowing on the strength of an improving job market. The Labor Department said Thursday that applications declined 39,000 from a revised 586,000 a week earlier. Weekly jobless claims are down sharply from a peak of 900,000 in early January.

Thanks to Democrats, too many are already being paid more than unemployment and choosing not to go back to work.

Kiersten Hening, a former Virginia Tech women’s soccer player, is suing her former coach after she was allegedly benched and forced off the team because she didn’t want to kneel during a pregame demonstration last September. Hening, 21, was a midfielder/defender for the Hokies from 2018 to 2020. In a federal lawsuit filed last month, Hening said that her former coach, Charles Adair, wasn’t a fan of her political views. According to the documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Hening said during the peak of the Black Lives Matter movement last summer, she often had a difference of opinion from her teammates on social justice topics.

New York Times columnist Paul Krugman suggested on Thursday that the violence that has plagued cities over the past year was a figment of Republicans' imagination. Krugman knocked Republicans on Twitter for "only" being concerned about illegal immigration and the deficit in comparison to Democrats, who according to a Pew study are overwhelmingly concerned about gun violence, racism, the coronavirus, climate change, affordable healthcare, and economic inequality. "You might think that it would be hard to obsess over the deficit when it was actually Trump who blew the deficit up, to zero complaints from his party," Krugman tweeted.

Evie magazine unpacked analysis of a Pew Research Center survey published last year, and subsequently arrived at the compelling possibility that science is telling us left-wing ideology and mental illness are correlated. Andrew Stiles at the Washington Free Beacon drew attention Monday to the Evie magazine piece, published last week, showing the March 2020 Pew Research data revealed white liberals are more likely than other ideological/racial groups to have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder. With a focus on younger women’s health and relationship issues, Evie’s Elizabeth Condra noted that over 50 percent of white, liberal women under 30 have been diagnosed with a mental health condition at some point.

A few years ago I noted the sharp growth in acid attacks in the UK. While acid attacks are commonplace in certain Muslim countries, they were not normative to western ones. Until immigration reshaped the UK. Acid attacks in London rose from 162 in 2012 to 454 last year. There have already been 199 acid attacks this year. Fox News conservative commentator Tomi Lahren triggered an online mob of far-left zealots Tuesday when she noted on Twitter that, with former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin having been convicted in the death of criminal suspect George Floyd, Black Lives Matter extremists have no reason to riot anymore. “You got your justice so I’d assume there will be peace in Minneapolis tonight? No rioting? No looting? No harassing officers? Is the Foot Locker safe tonight? Should be, right? Justice, right? No need to steal in the name of George Floyd anymore, right?”

A UK technology company is inserting customised product placement into films and TV shows – even those that were originally released decades ago. London-based firm Mirriad inserts products or signage, like a branded beer bottle on a table to a clothing advert on a giant billboard, into streaming content. The firm uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse films and TV episodes for space where the ads or objects can be subtly inserted. It means old Hollywood classics like Casablanca or The Great Escape could soon appear on streaming services with the newest ads in the background, like a new Apple smartphone or the latest McDonald's whopper.

The Democrats and their media veer from condemning the National Guard for not immediately responding on Jan 6 (even though they were the ones who decided that a few hundred unarmed guardsmen should be limited to directing traffic) to condemning them for being there when Black Lives Matter racial supremacists were wrecking Washington D.C. Here, without a trace of shame, they're pivoting from the "not enough force" to the "too much force" narratives. But there's always too much force when Democrats are rioting, but not enough force when Republicans are rioting.

Saturday marked the end of an era in Cuba when 89-year-old Raul Castro announced he'd be resigning as the leader of the country's Communist Party. He and his late brother Fidel Castro reigned for six decades, the latter taking power in 1959 following the Cuban Revolution against then-leader Fulgencio Batista. Without a beat, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, suggested Castro's next gig. Some social media users nodded along with Cruz's suggestion, noting that the move would make sense because CNN is the "Communist News Network." Others gave Castro a network promotion.

Although the current effort to push public schools receiving federal funding to adopt a detailed indoctrination agenda may feel new and overwhelming for parents, the truth is that the Biden attempt is simply the last phase in a decades-
