A UK technology company is inserting customised product placement into films and TV shows – even those that were originally released decades ago. London-based firm Mirriad inserts products or signage, like a branded beer bottle on a table to a clothing advert on a giant billboard, into streaming content. The firm uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse films and TV episodes for space where the ads or objects can be subtly inserted. It means old Hollywood classics like Casablanca or The Great Escape could soon appear on streaming services with the newest ads in the background, like a new Apple smartphone or the latest McDonald's whopper.

I get how they are just trying to milk that old cow one more time, but how about this? Why not try to create new, family friendly, movies instead? Not XYZ #3, or return to Jaws 4, but something new. Yeah, we know it is going to be a retelling of something else, face it, after the Bible and The Odyssey, there really isn't any good story lines left. But give it a go, that's why you make the big bucks .

Ernie Davis was the first black to receive the Heisman trophy. He was a running back for Syracuse University, 1959-1961. Drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1962, he and Jimmy Brown would have been in the same backfield, a combination that would have ben unbeatable. Unfortunately, Davis developed leukemia in the middle of 1962, never played again, died in 1963. Syracuse University, about 10 years ago, had a statue of Ernie Davis made, to display outside of the Carrier Dome. Davis, in full football uniform, was sculpted perfectly, except for one problem. He was wearing Nikes. And most people did not notice that. (Nike did not exist during Ernie's lifetime.)

Corn, wheat, soybeans, vegetable oils: A small handful of commodities form the backbone of much of the world’s diet and they’re dramatically more expensive, flashing alarm signals for global shopping budgets. This week, the Bloomberg Agriculture Spot Index — which tracks key farm products — surged the most in almost nine years, driven by a rally in crop futures. With global food prices already at the highest since mid-2014, this latest jump is being closely watched because staple crops are a ubiquitous influence on grocery shelves — from bread and pizza dough to meat and even soda. Soaring raw material prices have broad repercussions for households and businesses.

Krugman knocked Republicans on Twitter for "only" being concerned about illegal immigration and the deficit in comparison to Democrats, who according to a Pew study are overwhelmingly concerned about gun violence, racism, the coronavirus, climate change, affordable healthcare, and economic inequality. "You might think that it would be hard to obsess over the deficit when it was actually Trump who blew the deficit up, to zero complaints from his party," Krugman tweeted.

n the debate over whether one should or should not get the COVID vaccination, much has been said about the “science.” However, I’m not sure any encyclopedic knowledge of “science” is required to make this health decision. Simple statistical analysis should suffice to inform one’s ultimate decision. Statistics is primarily a study of probabilities. Fortunately, as regards COVID mortality rates, these probabilities are now known. That is, COVID mortality statistics broken down by age cohorts are now “known knowables.” For example, through statistics as of April 7, the odds an American under the age of 25 would die from COVID were 1-in-106,217.
