A UK technology company is inserting customised product placement into films and TV shows – even those that were originally released decades ago.
London-based firm Mirriad inserts products or signage, like a branded beer bottle on a table to a clothing advert on a giant billboard, into streaming content.
The firm uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse films and TV episodes for space where the ads or objects can be subtly inserted.
It means old Hollywood classics like Casablanca or The Great Escape could soon appear on streaming services with the newest ads in the background, like a new Apple smartphone or the latest McDonald's whopper.

And they really believe it won’t be obvious - and resented?

PS. They’d better get their history right. There were no Apple smartphones at the times those movies are set in...

Great. I can't wait to see the Great Escape with Steve McQueen checking his iPhone for directions out of Germany while riding the motorcycle, or the prisoners sitting down to a table of McDonald's Big Macs and Whoppers.

Will Ben Hur wash his toga in Tide?
Will John Wayne shoot a Glock?
How about Winston Churchill using a pink T-Mobile cell phone?
How about Bogie ordering a Diet Pepsi?
Beyond stupid, and it would make me LESS likely to buy a product when they vandalized a movie to do this.

I get how they are just trying to milk that old cow one more time, but how about this? Why not try to create new, family friendly, movies instead? Not XYZ #3, or return to Jaws 4, but something new. Yeah, we know it is going to be a retelling of something else, face it, after the Bible and The Odyssey, there really isn't any good story lines left. But give it a go, that's why you make the big bucks .

Re#1..... You may notice, I may notice. But I guarantee that almost every recent graduate of public schools or universities won't notice. For many many people, especially the self absorbed, history started the day they were born.

Ernie Davis was the first black to receive the Heisman trophy. He was a running back for Syracuse University, 1959-1961.
Drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1962, he and Jimmy Brown would have been in the same backfield, a combination that would have ben unbeatable. Unfortunately, Davis developed leukemia in the middle of 1962, never played again, died in 1963.
Syracuse University, about 10 years ago, had a statue of Ernie Davis made, to display outside of the Carrier Dome. Davis, in full football uniform, was sculpted perfectly, except for one problem.
He was wearing Nikes. And most people did not notice that. (Nike did not exist during Ernie's lifetime.)

Wow, all the problems in the world today, and these probably very intelligent people are wasting their time and talents on destroying classic films!!!!
I hope God takes me soon, because this world is just getting too insane to keep living in!!!

They cut out anything that offended the feminists during the move from VHS to DVD. By the time they got done with some TV shows, they were twenty minutes. The South Park show where Spielberg and company chased the boys wanting to edit their movies was more accurate than we knew.

I demand that advertisements for KOOL cigarettes be put into "Lilies of the Field" and Sidney Portier be given residuals. He be a sellout, dat be true, but fair be fair to a bro.

Such a shame that the technology will be wasted on me. The odds of me going to another movie are the same as the odds of getting on another commercial airplane. They are going to try to outdo Steve McQueen and Bogie? Hahahahahaha.

Watching Spartacus & seeing them drinking a cold Miller beer while on their Apple laptop.
Or the chariot race in Ben-Hur with billboards in the Circus Maximus displaying Calvin Klein jeans!
Seriously!
There is no way you can put modern products into period films like that & expect people not to notice & hate the product.

This would be art defacement. It would ruin the film. Can you picture "Gone With the Wind" with an Aunt Jemima syrup on the breakfast table?

So editing out of your own copy of a movie objectionable content is an affront to directors' art but they're OK with product placement? We're going through and purchasing copies of great movies so we don't have to depend on bastardized versions from streaming services.
