When Assata Thomas was 26 and shopping for a house, she just happened to end up with a realtor who, like her, was Black. But she soon recognized that her broker could relate to her experience, her needs, and her concerns as a Black homebuyer, and they developed a trusting relationship that culminated in her first home purchase, a single-family house in Willingboro. So when Thomas, now 52, was in the market for a bigger place, and then for her current house in Pennsauken, she deliberately sought out a Black broker.
“I felt that, with the history of home ownership for Black people specifically,

What? That's not step 1. That's like step 4. Step 1 is for all those woke white progressives to hand over their house keys to the first African American who shows up at their door.
W/o the generational wealth and white privilege they would not have that house in the first place. Hey, all things considered, they got to use it long enough by accident of their birth.
Progressives who promote CRT: give it up! Your house.

How about more blacks getting educations, then getting a good job? THAT'S the path to home ownership, and it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with race. It is totally up to the bad choices made by lazy people who expect to have things given to them, and not have to earn them.

If a white person wrote this about feeling more comfortable with a white realtor, and the white realtor relating to their needs and wants, they would be crucified as a huge racist.
I honestly don't have a problem with a black person wanting to do business with other black people, a woman wanting to do business with other women, a muslim wanting to do business with other muslims, etc, etc. We are supposed to be a free country.
But when a white person, a male, or a Christian, says and does that same thing, then they should not be branded a racist, sexist, homophobe, or any other derogatory term because they feel the same about wanting to do business with people they can relate to.

Ha ha. Willingboro is predominantly black. So the black realtor kept her black car client in a black environment. So just who is racially insensitive?

How about
1.Learn a profession
2. Get a job
3. Work hard
4. Save money
5. Earn a good credit rating
6. Get a competent realtor regardless of race
Then #7 can be black or brown or yellow.

One final need: Banks that will award large, risky loans to people not capable of repaying them or even trying by holding a steady job. Obama tried that. Remember the foreclosure crisis during the Obama reign of error? Oh, and New Jersey would have to cut real estate taxes to at least one quarter of what they are now. Ain't gonna happen.

With marketable skills and/or a good education you can buy a house anywhere you please. How many of Assata's clients have good careers and a stable, long term relationship with one person?

Isn't there that pesky clause about freedom of association in the Constitution also?

I don't know why there is a home ownership gap, but I will say that the race of the realtor probably ain't it.
The normal reasons, credit rating, income, income to debt ratio, employement history and down payment.
Once upon a time, the banks wouldn't issue loans to minorities to purchase a home in white neighborhoods.

This putrefyingly stupid article conveniently omits the fact - - that the 2008 "financial crisis" was completely the result of banks being forced by the federal government to give huge mortgage loans to unqualified black buyers.
Those were the days of the "NINJA" loans - - No Income No Job or Assets. So yes - - let's bring back those good old days. Let's hand massive loans to completely unqualified buyers - - based solely on skin color.
Disgusting.

Has anyone seen the examination for a real estate license? It requires math calculations for property size, including odd shaped lots, square footage, interest calculations, knowledge of escrow laws, and a smattering of real estate law, as well as good presentation.
I'll leave it there.

More black realtors, more black teachers, more black engineers, more black doctors, more black owned businesses all would help with more black home ownership but not because they are black but because those people then would be able to buy a home.

NINJA loans were courtesy of Compassionate George and his "America's Ownership Society" program, going back to 2004. Mortgages granted to illegal aliens, sometimes at 120% of the inflated value of the home, and with banks promised on the sly that they'd be made whole when it all came crashing down. This was done because New America needed to become a whole lot more Hispanic.

Not possible - they would probably have to get a photo ID. Everyone knows they are incapable of doing that.

Agree #1, great solution, OR we could just require people that want to buy houses to be able to MAKE THE PAYMENTS!

white people often patronize minority-owned businesses and vote for bLACK politicians to signal that no, they are not racist. bLACK people, on the other hand, rely on fellow bLACK businesspeople to help them navigate the hostile minefield of White Supremacy.
