The number of Americans who belong to a house of worship has dropped below 50 percent for the first time since polling began, according to a recent study from Gallup.
“Americans’ membership in houses of worship continued to decline last year, dropping below 50% for the first time in Gallup’s eight-decade trend,” the polling group discovered. “In 2020, 47% of Americans said they belonged to a church, synagogue or mosque, down from 50% in 2018 and 70% in 1999.”“The decline in church membership is primarily a function of the increasing number of Americans who express no religious preference,”

A people that have forgotten God and trust in the arm of flesh cannot merit His mercy and protection. A quick read of the headlines reveals that we generally are quite lost and the love of man has waxed cold. As for me and my house we will serve The Lord.

We are quickly becoming an apostate nation, forgetting the Christian principles upon which this country was founded. God has removed our protection.

A major part of the decline in attendance is that the organized religions in particular the Catholic religion have been taken over by the PC communist cabal. Witness the Commie Pope Francis. The phrase "Get Woke, Go Broke" applies not only to businesses but also religions. Who wants to go and listen to a priest or minister spew forth marxist garbage on Sundays.

Sadly, when they should have been towers of the strength of faith in this pandemic, so many churches cowered in fear. They made their members stay home, and a lot of them are going to continue staying home even when things get back to normal. The older people will return, but I fear the teens and 20-somethings are lost for good.
Add this to all the "feel good churches", those supporting abortion, homosexuality, and other radical leftist ideologies, and the attack on faith by the Demon-Rats, and it's not looking good for this country.

Most Protestant churches want to be the cool kids, not the stern parents. The churches that are dropping their standards and embracing sinful behavior, such as gay marriage, are losing members like crazy. Add the embrace of BLM and liberal immigration policies and they are pushing away even more of their flock.

For me, churches in general and Christianity in particular somehow became less about spirituality and more about everything else. I never went to church wanting to hear about the rummage sale or the roof fund or the youth ministry or the constant begging for money. I wanted to know about God and the spiritual world from someone who knows. I never did find that in a church so stopped going decades ago.
I did find those things and continue to every day, but not in an organized religion. I found it in neo-paganism, specifically Wicca.

50% stopped going to Church and 50% voted for Biden- Harris.
Think about it. It makes sense.

Churches need to free themselves of 501(3)(c) bondage. When Christian friends tell me they believe Biden was the compassionate choice, I see a church that's not doing its job.

I haven't been able to find as church that I really enjoy attending. The music at the one I attend is just insipid crap that is really off-putting. I was raised on the great old hymns like "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Onward Christian Soldiers ".
Can't find one that still sings the old hymns. The sermons are good but the horrid music, with a exuberant drummer no less, is driving me away.

Truth be told, those who left were mostly the chaff and not the wheat.
The Church will be better off for it.

#11 is correct. Christianity flourishes during times of tribulation and persecution.

Hard to attend church when they're not open, and when the politicians send the police to give out tickets and arrest people for attending even outdoor services.

The prolonged lockdowns by liberal politicians are having the intended effect: Make people more dependent on government. Government is the new God. Government will provide for all of your needs and protect you from cradle to grave. The advantage of government being your god is there is no moral or personal responsibility expected. Just sit back, do what you want, like whatever lifestyle you want, and it is OK! Morals are relative, whatever you want them to be.

Many people tie church membership to church participation. If you're forbidden by the government to worship (because of COVID-19), some folks will not consider themselves members anymore. Also, shutting down churches for a year curtails recruitment -- that is, what Christians like to call evangelism. How do you invite someone to church when there are no services to go to? This is a stupid poll, IMO.

Apostasy has always been around since the early churches of the 1st Century. This current state of church membership is nothing more than the goats separating from God’s sheep. There are always those of His Elect that have not bowed their knee to Baal.

The churches shot themselves in the foot by embracing the loss of our freedoms, and theirs. They stood down.

The one church in the city that didn't stop offering Masses and other Sacraments during the lockdown has thrived since last July and has actually grown a bit. As the other churches start to open, some who went to the open church will return to their parishes. Many, though, feel at home now and will stay.

The end result of churches across the country being shut down and declared non essential. This is the war on Christianity and the Anti Christ movement doing all they can to destroy The Church of Jesus. If He were alive today, Pelosi and Schumer would be using the hammer while Harris and Biden were holding him down.

I'm with #10. My Baptist church has a wonderful pastor who give us the sermons from the Bible we need to hear. Music sucks. I started participating in a choir at the Methodist church (then went to Baptist church after choir sang), got to know people so have been attending there some times. Wonderful old songs, organ prelude, good people, but the sermons suck. Trying to decide what to do. Probably will stay w/Baptist since my friends are there. But our Sunday School class of 20+ older ladies has dwindled down to 2 or 3 plus teacher since the others say they are afraid to come out.

Weird poll, “... no religious preference” can mean several different things, particularly since when we get to Heaven, Jesus is not going to ask us, “Which denomination were you...”
He cares about our hearts... Do we love Him, and keep at least the first two Commandments, which Jesus taught and repeated often in the NT... 1.) Do you love me? 2.) Do you love others?
And for those here who might be searching for a church that preaches the beautiful Gospel of our resurrected LORD, here is a link to churches around the world who have Seminary grads who teach Scripture, OT and NT... and talk about beautiful music, the harmony of several of our men members singing hymns in beautiful harmony last Lord’s Day was amazing! Of course, every Day is our Lord’s Day, as we commemorate Resurrection this weekend... For Your Glory, LORD!

I have found that people are using covid as an excuse to get out of things that they never enjoyed doing.
Church, funerals, family gatherings, visiting someone in the hospital, taking care of the elderly, volunteering, class reunions, women's ministry events at church (guilty), VBS (guilty), PTA meetings, little league games....
If you don't love doing it, you don't have to do it anymore!

I didn't leave the Church. The Church has left me. In fact, I now am more of a believer than when I was a member. Most folk I know go to Church for the social aspect, not the Bible aspect. I have no tolerance for Sunday Christians. I have no tolerance for Pastors that wear jeans and t-shirts for Sunday service. I have no tolerance for the congregation saving their Sunday best for Saturday night on the town while wearing every day clothes to Church. Yes, I miss going to Church, but not the Church of today.

I was drifting away from the Catholic Church due to the commie pope anyway, but when they canceled Easter last year, that was the last straw.
