On paper, Team Reality should be winning the battle for truth about COVID-19, and it shouldn’t even be close. After all, we’ve got the science along with over a year of hard data to back up our positions against lockdowns, masking, and other useless measures to “stop the spread” of a highly contagious respiratory virus. Team Apocalypse, however, does have the media, Big Tech, and the medical & political establishment firmly behind them, and thus the power to brainwash the majority of the non-critical thinking populace with platitudes, scare tactics, and appeals to authority.

Two weeks ago, I wrote of the Department of Justice’s overreach respecting some of the hundreds of January 6 defendants. On Friday the D.C. Circuit clipped the department’s wings. I expect more such losses as time goes on and the Department must actually present evidence in contested trials.
The ploy of keeping in D.C. jails without bail some of the protestors who engaged in no specific violent acts at the Capitol until their cases can be heard was very obviously designed to compel them to plea bargain so they could return home to their families and jobs, and the three-judge panel wasn’t buying it.

Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins toured the U.S.-Mexico border overnight with a delegation led by Texas Republican Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn. The trip continues through Mission, Texas today with a boat tour, but they've already seen the crisis first hand.
[tweets:]
1 AM – I spent the last 3 hours with Border Patrol on night shift in McAllen, TX. 18 Senators learning about the huge influx, 3,000 people per day, including unaccompanied children, illegally entering.
Mexican cartels control who crosses the border. A young mother from Guatemala, sitting on an aluminum blanket with her 1-year-old, told me she paid smugglers $6,000.

It is conceivable that the United States might have had a worse government health care official in charge of informing and advising the citizenry than Anthony Fauci, longtime head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, during the past 13 months as the nation struggled to come to grips with COVID-19. But it is hard to imagine. (Snip) Over the past year, Dr. Fauci has personally discredited the parts of government that are meant to be apolitical. He has done this through his bizarrely ego-driven need to be front and center, constantly; his willingness to undercut President Trump, seemingly for the sake of attention; and his ever-changing instructions

Money from the founder of Facebook touted as being for safe elections during the pandemic may have affected the outcome of the presidential race in Arizona by driving up Democrat turnout, according to a government watchdog report.
The grant from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan focused more on “voter education” than personal protective equipment to guard against COVID-19, the report says.
The Zuckerbergs gave a total of $350 million to the Center for Tech and Civic Life, a left-leaning technology group, that in turn issued grants to 2,500 election offices in 49 states.

March 22 is the birthday of the iconic writer Louis L’Amour, a man whose name became synonymous with the American frontier and whose novels promoted old-fashioned patriotism and morality. America sorely misses his kind.
L’Amour was born in Jamestown, North Dakota, a farm town, in 1908. He was largely self-educated. As a youth, L’Amour spent many hours at the town library studying history and science and imbibing the fiction of Robert Louis Stevenson, Jack London, and Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Democrats rejected a Republican amendment to the $1.9 trillion stimulus package President Joe Biden signed last week that would have prevented prisoners from receiving stimulus checks.
Wisconsin state Sen. Julian Bradley and Rep. Joe Sanfelippo introduced a bill Monday that would require federal stimulus money received by someone who is incarcerated to go toward any restitution the prisoner owes. Messages left at both Bradley and Sanfelippo's offices weren't immediately returned.

In the early hours of March 12, FBI agents in southwestern Florida barricaded a neighborhood to prepare to raid the home of one resident. Christopher Worrell of Cape Coral was arrested and charged with several counts related to the January 6 Capitol melee. Even though Worrell had been cooperating with the FBI for two months, the agency nonetheless unleashed a massive, and no doubt costly, display of force to take him into custody.
The raid included “armed men with helmets and a tanker truck” and was partially executed by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Friday, Tucker Carlson kicked off a firestorm.
His monologue focused n the barking shambles that Joe Biden has made of the Department of Defense in less than two months.
His theme was the degree to which the Biden bunch is focusing on making the military a test bed for woke orthodoxy and putting combat readiness, particularly readiness to confront Joe Biden’s paymasters in Beijing, in its rearview mirror. He took, as a point of departure, Biden’s mumblings on the occasion of “International Women’s Day.” Carlson’s strongest point was directed at Biden’s decision to appoint a secretary of defense who is not only beholden to the defense industry but a rabid partisan

President Biden fired Equal Employment Opportunity Commission general counsel Sharon Fast Gustafson on Friday after she declined to resign under pressure from the White House.
“At the time I was nominated, I was asked if I would commit to do my best to fulfill my four-year term, and I answered yes,” Gustafson said in a letter to Biden. “Unless prevented from doing so, I intend to honor that commitment. I have confidently given this advice to countless embattled clients of the last 25 years: hold your head high, do your best work, and do not resign under pressure. In solidarity with them, I will follow that advice.”

Much of the daily conversation on social media is consumed by ephemera. (Snip) It's all fine to think about, as long as you don't devote too much mental bandwidth to it and don't forget that there are some enormous things happening in our politics right now. The fact is, the Biden administration, despite its tenuous holds on the House and Senate, is working to make far-reaching changes to American life. Two of the biggest -- and two that could combine to create a crisis -- are the COVID relief bill, which the president will sign into law tomorrow, and immigration. They are two key parts of a progressive agenda

One year ago, I tweeted: “This is what the Left wants. They want people stripped of wealth, isolated, and terrified. They want sources of joy—church, sporting events, vacations, large social gatherings—eliminated. This is how they get control. And it’s far scarier than any virus.”
It was not a popular sentiment at the time.
My initial reaction to government-ordered lockdowns, promoted by politicians on both sides and President Trump, was in the slim minority to say the least. “Flattening the curve” required deep personal sacrifices, we were warned.
(Snip) But from the start, “the curve” was bogus stagecraft. As I explained last year, the curve the authorities presented to Americans wasn’t accurate.
Comments:
It takes a little concentration to get into this piece, but it's well worth it. I was alternately going "wow," laughing my head off, and getting furious, reading this takedown of "scientists" at MIT who are trying to discredit the scientific truth-tellers about covid by accusing them of clearly setting out real data and encouraging readers to understand it.
