The Rhode Island Senate on Tuesday passed attire guidelines that sparked an uproar for allegedly imposing standards that were biased toward White people. On March 15, the Rhode Island Senate rules committee was debating a provision that would mandate legislators maintain decorum by dressing in certain ways. Sen. Jonathon Acosta, D-District 16, argued that legislators' varying backgrounds were affected by an "ethno-racial-class nexus" and informed what they considered to be appropriate dress. "The frame that you bring to decorum might be different than the one that I bring for decorum, but does not make mine any less valuable," he said

If you want to dress like a bum, be my guest. After all, you’re representing the best of the state of Rhode Island.

It was white people that founded this country. White people who wrote the Constitution. White people who founded the businesses, and when white people finally realized that a mistake had been made allowing slavery, it was white people that fought and died to free the slaves. So if anyone has a problem with white people, get over it, and move on with your life.

This idiot got into Congress because of our Constitution and culture. If he isn't happy here he can leave and go live in a culture that will let him dress as he likes. While, as a taxpayer, I am paying his salary he can do what he is told.

There's something appealing about wearing your prison pants below your boxers and wearing a hoodie, but that would be cultural appropriation.

Men must wear ankle length black ghetto shorts down below their asscheeks and boxer underwear. White converse tennis shoes and knee high black socks and white JC Penny White v neck pocket t shirts, and a Chicago bulls ball cap sideways. Women must wear black burkas with only their eyes showing.

No matter where you work, or for whom, there is a dress code. This guy ( imbecile ) is looking for something to get his name out there. Although why he wants people to know that he's a jack*ss is beyond me.

The party makeup of the Rhode Island Senate is 33 Dems and 5 GOP. Let these racists fight it out among themselves.

Can they at least agree to bathe before going on the Senate floor (/s)? I'm sure the RI Senate has more important things to attend to than dress attire. How many years has the RI Senate been meeting? This has only become an issue now? This seems to be an exercise in triviality, but government today is trivial.

Loincloths for the men, topless for the women. I'm all for it. Select whichever gender you want to identify as. Enjoy yourself until the next primary.

Aren't there more serious issues facing Congress than what they are wearing!!!!! We are wasting our money on these idiots. Fire them and let us hire someone who will go to DC and do their job.

Do any politicians know what the phrase E Pluribus Unum means? Out of Many, One. There is a reason that is our national motto. A nation divided cannot stand. Wake up, you damned fools.

Less valuable? Catch a clue, dude. As a rookie, you are at the BOTTOM of the totem pole. If you last long enough to become an elder in that chamber, then you might have the authority to tweak the dress code.
