Rhode Island lawmaker argues dress code is
'oppressive,' calls Senate a 'White western space'

The Rhode Island Senate on Tuesday passed attire guidelines that sparked an uproar for allegedly imposing standards that were biased toward White people. On March 15, the Rhode Island Senate rules committee was debating a provision that would mandate legislators maintain decorum by dressing in certain ways. Sen. Jonathon Acosta, D-District 16, argued that legislators' varying backgrounds were affected by an "ethno-racial-class nexus" and informed what they considered to be appropriate dress. "The frame that you bring to decorum might be different than the one that I bring for decorum, but does not make mine any less valuable," he said

Comments:

That old 'Ethno Racial Class Nexus' rears its ugly head again - just like the Jim Crow era.

It was white people that founded this country. White people who wrote the Constitution. White people who founded the businesses, and when white people finally realized that a mistake had been made allowing slavery, it was white people that fought and died to free the slaves. So if anyone has a problem with white people, get over it, and move on with your life.

There's something appealing about wearing your prison pants below your boxers and wearing a hoodie, but that would be cultural appropriation.

Can they at least agree to bathe before going on the Senate floor (/s)? I'm sure the RI Senate has more important things to attend to than dress attire. How many years has the RI Senate been meeting? This has only become an issue now? This seems to be an exercise in triviality, but government today is trivial.

The Biden administration is putting out a call for government volunteers to report for duty amid the significant surge at the border, but many are asking -- where is the person deputized to 'fix' the line in the sand crisis? As the immigration mess at the southern border gets more and more out of hand, Vice President Kamala Harris still remains inexplicably silent. Even after President Biden officially tapped the VP Wednesday to lead in response to border challenges, there aren’t any plans for her to travel south or even address the issue. WASHINGTON — Democrats have spent the last several years clamoring to raise taxes on corporations and the rich, seeing that as a necessary antidote to widening economic inequality and a rebuke of President Donald J. Trump’s signature tax cuts. Now, under President Biden, they have a shot at ushering in the largest federal tax increase since 1942. It could help pay for a host of spending programs that liberal economists predict would bolster the economy’s performance and repair a tax code that Democrats say encourages wealthy people to hoard assets and big companies to ship jobs and book profits overseas.
