I am not a particular fan of Ernest Hemingway’s novel “The Sun Also Rises.”
But there is one exchange between two of the characters, Bill Gorton and Mike Campbell, that has stuck with me.
“How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked.
“Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually and then suddenly.”
That passage has been running through my head a lot recently.
I thought of it last week when I learned that Dr. Seuss Enterprises had decided to stop selling six books by the famous children’s author because—according to the bureaucrats at the concession—they depict various ethnic groups in ways that are “hurtful and wrong.”

An official in the Georgia secretary of state’s office was the only source for at least one story that falsely claimed former President Donald Trump told an investigator with the office to “find the fraud.”
Jordan Fuchs, deputy secretary of state, relayed details of the conversation to The Washington Post, an official with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger confirmed to The Epoch Times.
Fuchs was not on the call herself. She was told about the conversation by Frances Watson, the investigator.
A recording of the call recently emerged from a records request, showing that the Post and a slew of other outlets had falsely reported Trump uttering several phrases.

Rebel News reported, "President Joe Biden is reportedly planning to increase the federal tax — the first major hike in almost 30 years — to help pay for the economic program that is set to follow the $1.9 trillion coronavirus stimulus package passed last week."
That's interesting. Clinton raised them in 1993. Bush II and Donald Trump lowered them.

This is a smart, short, simple and common sense approach to start a process of state-wide vote integrity. No more private sector cash allowed into the coffers of any state election official. States fund the election, precincts manage the election, no outside financial influences allowed inside the election process; period.
ARIZONA – In 2020, private grants, largely funded by donations from Facebook’s founder, helped pay for elections across the country.
Now Republican lawmakers in Arizona and other states are voting to prohibit election workers from ever accepting such funds again.

Perhaps a concerted and consistent effort will produce results? Let us pray for a return of judicial common sense and continued sunlight upon any deception.
Remember, the Fulton County election board fired their director as an outcome of multiple voting and ballot counting issues that surfaced following the 2020 election.
Now a judge in Georgia has given a vote integrity group access to the physical ballots in Fulton County amid sworn affidavits that many of those ballots were sketchy and seemed to be generated by automation.GEORGIA – Henry County Judge Brian Amero on Monday conditionally granted members of a Georgia-based coalition the right to unseal ballots from last November’s presidential election

Guam's Congressional delegate Michael San Nicholas made good on his promise to deliver cookies to Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, after the freshman Congresswoman mistakenly referred to the US territory as a foreign nation receiving US aid.
San Nichols was escorted to Taylor Greene's office in the US Capitol building on Monday by members of the Guam National Guard, carrying in hand a basket of cookies and books. However, as shown in a video uploaded to social media by The Hill, the congresswoman was not there to meet them. Instead, they were met by an aide, who thanked the guests "for keeping us safe."

The Washington Post has issued a correction to a January 9 story in which it claimed that then-President Donald Trump had told a Georgia state elections investigator to “find the fraud.” In fact, an audio recording showed Trump said no such thing.
The Post‘s original article was headlined: “‘Find the fraud’: Trump pressured a Georgia elections investigator in a separate call legal experts say could amount to obstruction.” It relied on information from a single anonymous source, described as “an individual familiar with the call who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the conversation.”

Reports from local news outlets in Midland, Texas, reveal busloads of migrant children being moved under the cover of darkness into a local holding facility. State and local officials received little or no advance notice of the federal government’s plans to move these migrant children into their community.

President Joe Biden’s policies are fueling a crisis at the southern border that endangers American citizens, puts the lives of unaccompanied children at risk, and fuels sex trafficking, a group of GOP lawmakers declared Monday.
Led by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the congressional delegation, including some of the top Republicans on committees with jurisdiction over America’s southern international boundary, traveled to a section of the U.S.-Mexico Border in Texas. Dr. Marty Makary of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine was bold in his projection that we’ll have herd immunity by April. This has been disputed by those who are nowhere near his level of expertise when it comes to public health, but I get the pushback since it shreds the Democratic Party’s COVID lockdown regime. In an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, Makary says that we’re underestimating natural immunity and with the pace of vaccinations, we’ll reach that critical benchmark towards reclaiming normality by tax season. (Snip) Good health news should be disseminated, not buried. There was pushback, and there will be more when he recently wrote about the

At what point did our society hand over our lives to government bureaucrats?
Over this past year, it surely has seemed that we have done that, with so much of society being dictated to, not only by those bureaucrats, but by seemingly arbitrary rules that they then imposed like a religion and upon which then, so many policy decisions were then based. Last Thursday, President Joe Biden was allowed out of his protective bubble to deliver a nationally televised address to the nation. This was big news in Washington, as Biden has been in hiding since taking office. Normally a new president spends his first few weeks in office making the rounds, chatting with the media, and doing what amounts to a victory lap around Washington. Biden has not done any of that.
Even though the American media is stuffed to the gills with toadies and rumpswabs, there is always the chance one of them accidentally asks him a real question. Worse yet, there is the chance he tries to answer.

How about a story with several happy endings. Sorry, you’ll just have to read it. There’s more than the headline/intro. G’wan…you’ll be glad you did. But this is not for Grinches.
