High School Sweethearts Reunited by
Biological Daughter Given Up for
Adoption 50 Years Ago

When a high school athlete and his first love, a cheerleader, were separated by circumstances, they had far more to contend with than their broken hearts as the then-teen girl was pregnant and had given the baby up for adoption. Fifty years later, that very same baby—now a mom of two named Laura Mabry—would meet her birth parents, Joe Cougill and Donna Horn, for the very first time, and in doing so would bring the high school sweethearts back together.

Comments:

How about a story with several happy endings. Sorry, you’ll just have to read it. There’s more than the headline/intro. G’wan…you’ll be glad you did. But this is not for Grinches.

I remember a couple of girls in high school in the 1960’s that left school for a semester or so, supposedly to “live with an aunt” in another state.... nobody ever questioned them about it, but everybody understood what happened. On the other hand, one of my buddies married his girlfriend right after graduation; the baby came on time, but the wedding was a couple of months late. Again, nobody ever questioned it. My friend stayed married to that same girl for almost 40 years until his untimely death; they had two children and were happy as clams. It’s hard to say which way ends better; who’s to say the people in this story wouldn’t have done just as well if their parents had arranged for them to get married? Nice ending, though.....

Really sweet story. I shouldn't be preachy but life works out better when things are done in the right order. I've got a story like this in my extended family. Didn't work out quite the same, though. Mom had passed away and the man we suspect is Dad has a family of his own now and denies his paternity. I don't blame him.

Adult adoptee here. There's a book entitled "The Girls that Went Away" about young ladies who gave their children up for adoption. Things were different back then, families were horrified with stigma and it ended up with mothers, fathers and children going on a search for years, fighting with state laws to finally get a wisp of information. I was lucky, I got just enough information to track down my birth mother - before the internet. The genetic testing has been such a wonderful thing for those wondering "who do I look like?"

I am not a particular fan of Ernest Hemingway’s novel “The Sun Also Rises.” But there is one exchange between two of the characters, Bill Gorton and Mike Campbell, that has stuck with me. “How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked. “Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually and then suddenly.” That passage has been running through my head a lot recently. I thought of it last week when I learned that Dr. Seuss Enterprises had decided to stop selling six books by the famous children’s author because—according to the bureaucrats at the concession—they depict various ethnic groups in ways that are “hurtful and wrong.”

An official in the Georgia secretary of state’s office was the only source for at least one story that falsely claimed former President Donald Trump told an investigator with the office to “find the fraud.” Jordan Fuchs, deputy secretary of state, relayed details of the conversation to The Washington Post, an official with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger confirmed to The Epoch Times. Fuchs was not on the call herself. She was told about the conversation by Frances Watson, the investigator. A recording of the call recently emerged from a records request, showing that the Post and a slew of other outlets had falsely reported Trump uttering several phrases.

This is a smart, short, simple and common sense approach to start a process of state-wide vote integrity. No more private sector cash allowed into the coffers of any state election official. States fund the election, precincts manage the election, no outside financial influences allowed inside the election process; period. ARIZONA – In 2020, private grants, largely funded by donations from Facebook’s founder, helped pay for elections across the country. Now Republican lawmakers in Arizona and other states are voting to prohibit election workers from ever accepting such funds again.

San Nichols was escorted to Taylor Greene's office in the US Capitol building on Monday by members of the Guam National Guard, carrying in hand a basket of cookies and books. However, as shown in a video uploaded to social media by The Hill, the congresswoman was not there to meet them. Instead, they were met by an aide, who thanked the guests "for keeping us safe."

Last Thursday, President Joe Biden was allowed out of his protective bubble to deliver a nationally televised address to the nation. This was big news in Washington, as Biden has been in hiding since taking office. Normally a new president spends his first few weeks in office making the rounds, chatting with the media, and doing what amounts to a victory lap around Washington. Biden has not done any of that. Even though the American media is stuffed to the gills with toadies and rumpswabs, there is always the chance one of them accidentally asks him a real question. Worse yet, there is the chance he tries to answer.
