Euthanasia/Assisted Suicide:
How It Starts: It’s just a safety valve, a tiny change in medical ethics and the law. Protective guidelines will protect against abuse!
Where It Is Now: There are too many obstacles to death! We have to make it easier to die!
Where It’s Going: Death on demand for any reason (already the law in Germany).
Some jurisdictions are moving along this trajectory quickly and some more slowly. But over time, that is the way the current flows.
Canada is speed runner in this regard. After its supreme court imposed a positive right to euthanasia in 2015, the country cheered and embraced “medical assistance in dying” (MAID) with an enthusiasm

This is like what the NAZIs did at first, trying to convince the German people that those institutionalized people were not aware of anything, and then that they were suffering, and there's a compassionate way of saving these people from misery. And the propagandists dressed up in white coats so the people would think doctors were advising them, and doctors do no harm, right?
The film noir photographers made movie shorts of the aimless, disabled, disfigured in one way or another.
But that didn't work. The German people still resisted the idea of ... well... of putting these people out of their misery.
Still, and yet, one day the authorities had the idea to talk about the cost of keeping all these patients institutionalized, and this finally moved the people to think favorably about euthanasia as a humane way of "taking care of the problem."
Nevertheless, the first victims were picked up in the dark of night and killed.
Frog in the beaker suspended over the Bunsen burner comes to mind. Get the people used to the idea for a while. Then control the horror of what you're doing. Try to. at first.

We older folks remember when abortion was legalized and we warned it would bring a horrid cheapening of all human life. We were mocked and laughed at, remember? Now THIS is discussed openly in the press and actually, there is little uproar. Yes indeed, Sarah Palin was right.

In Canada, if you are a savage, sociopath, stalking men, women, and children, to kidnap, torture, rape and murder, your rights are protected. You will never be sentenced to death for your crimes. How barbaric is that, they say...
But be helpless, growing senile, or damaged mentally by circumstance of accident or birth and if someone wants you dead, they can petition the government to kill you. And the very same people cry, how civilized and just!
How typically Liberal!!

In the Soviet Union, opposition to the government was regarded as mental illness. This will not end well.

FTA: Reasonably foreseeable death will no longer be required. That opens the door to euthanizing people with disabilities, patients diagnosed with dementia but still competent, as well as the mentally ill.
Anyone who is inconvenient to their family, euthanized. Anyone who is costing the "free" healthcare system too much, euthanized.
