All three drones started to bear down on our location. One of them was capable of providing intelligence and providing a minor threat, while the other two large ones were capable of traveling dozens of kilometers and carrying and delivering a heavy 12-kilogram payload of explosive materials. They made their way from 500 meters to 400 m. to what was defined as the “blue zone” at around 250 m. – an intermediate threat distance that appeared on the monitor in front of us showing the drones’ trajectory.

Good stuff, bravo to these folks for working hard on stopping these drones electronically. But their "heavy 12 kg payload of explosive material"......is about 25 lbs. While there is no doubt that I do not want to be near 25 lbs of high explosives when it goes off, this is pretty small in military terms. The standard WW2 aerial bomb was either 500 lbs or 1,000 lbs, although a lot of 250 lb bombs were used, too. The WW2 German V-1 cruise missile warhead was just under 1,800 lbs and their ballistic rocket V-2 warheads are reported to weigh "a ton", which is somewhere between 2,000 and 2,200 lbs depending exactly whose ton you are using, metric, Imperial or US, long or short. So, for perspective, these drones are fortunately, pretty small. But I am sure that will be changing. Preventing these barbarians from killing people with these small drones is a very good thing. Fortunately, at this point in the technology of these third world barbarians, they cannot deliver truly huge payloads.

The Democratically-controlled Senate spends thousands of collective hours conducting an impeachment trial against a president who is no longer president. The acquittal is predetermined, as in the first impeachment effort a year ago—and known to be so to the Democratic prosecutors. The constitutionally mandated presiding judge—the chief justice of the United States—refused to show up. Chief Justice John Roberts apparently believes an impeachment trial of a private citizen is either a waste of time or unconstitutional—or both. The Democratic House of Representatives is busy ferreting out purportedly extremist Republican members. For the first time in memory, one party now removes committee members of the other.

OTTAWA — The Canadian government continues to press U.S. officials to avoid the shutdown of a key pipeline supplying southern Ontario, marking another point of conflict in the energy relationship between the two countries after Keystone XL was scrapped last week. Officials in Michigan are looking to force the shutdown of Line 5, a pipeline carrying 540,000 barrels of Canadian oil and other petroleum products each day from Superior, Wis., to refineries in Sarnia, Ont. If successful, Canadian officials warn, the move would have a devastating impact on the Canadian economy, vaporizing thousands of jobs and cutting off a crucial supply of gasoline and jet fuel to Ontario and Quebec

Two Iranian men living in Canada are accused by U.S. authorities of buying “highly sophisticated” manufacturing and transportation equipment and secretly shipping it to Iran to circumvent strict sanctions. Using subterfuge, lies and masquerades, they overcame repeated refusals from companies around the world and eventually shipped nine electrical discharge boards, a CPU for a precision fabrication machine, two servo motors and two railroad crankshafts from the United States to Iran, authorities allege. Along with another Iranian national, they are also accused of international money laundering in a plot spanning 11 countries and stretching over two years. The charges come amid continuing international tension between Iran and both Canada and the United States.

Buried within the $1.9 trillion emergency spending bill that Congress sent to President Joe Biden's desk on Wednesday is a provision that could effectively block states from cutting taxes if they accept federal bailout dollars. That provision, added to the bill by the Senate last week, could put a halt to several states' plans to cut taxes this year as a way to stimulate economic growth following the COVID-19 pandemic. Depending on how the text is interpreted, the measure could also make it illegal for states to create new tax credit programs like the ones that have become a popular mechanism for expanding school choice.

It’s almost our favorite day of the year: the beginning of Daylight Savings Time, when we can fast-forward our clocks, stop the winter darkness that descends by mid-afternoon, and crawl out of our stuffy homes after dinner into the evening light. Amid Biden’s “dark winter” of COVID hell, the act of “springing forward” out of Standard Time is especially welcomed this year.
