Bruce Springsteen pleaded guilty Wednesday to drinking shots of tequila as a New Jersey federal park last year, but prosecutors dropped charges of DWI and reckless driving after he was found to be well within the legal limit.
During a virtual arraignment hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors said they could not meet the legal burden for drunken driving against The Boss, 71, whose blood alcohol content was found to be .02—well below the state's threshold of .08.(Snip) The judge then asked Springsteen when he would be able to pay the fine by, in which he responded with a smile: 'I think I can

He's either a cheap drunk or the fix was in. I vote for the latter.

Didn't he refuse to take a breathalizer test?
Wouldn't two shots, if done in short duration, would likely get you well past 0.02.

So, how hard did the authorities have to dig through the law books for NJ to find this excuse for a slap on the wrist? Hope Jeep doesn't reinstate him, he is a terrible spokesman example for a vehicle commercial.

I wonder if Chrysler/Jeep helped out their new spokesperson with this one.

Not a Springsteen fan, but this, as presented, was way beyond federal overreach. .02 when the legal limit is .08? C'mon man.

Refused a breathalyzer.
A later test shows a low BAC. It's almost like the alcohol leaves your system as time goes by.

Give the guys in the back rooms enough $$$$ and the 'revised' police report will say whatever you want it to say. Cross out that 0.21 and make it 0.02.....boom, everything is OK and your bank account is $10K better.
Another case of "do you know who I am?", I'm sure. A small brown paper sack filled with used twenties and fifties and "you are free to go."

I know the judge. He’s a straight-shooter. He was New Jersey’s largest county’s top prosecutor and then a very successful defense attorney. He’s smart and he’s principled. (He’s also not an asshat). Because I know him and know that about him, I am appalled at these comments. BTW, blood alcohol levels actually rise initially, they don’t decrease; and if you know that, do you really believe he was “glassy eyed and swaying back and forth” when he blew a .02? I think the park ranger may have been a bit overzealous and so created some facts to try to bolster his case. It happens. Instead of blasting the judge, you might want to pray that some day someone like him would be hearing and deciding a case against you or your kids.

Springstein refused a breathalyzer test at the scene and submitted hours later. Plenty of time for the alcohol levels to go down.

In the first place it was a pretty cheezie charge that went no place. Remember the guy is a bigtime liberal Democrat headliner, close to Obama, so you know that they were going to cut him a break!

The Boss should not have been riding his two-wheeler and drinking any alcohol! Irresponsible and some might say stupid. I wonder how long it took him to submit to the ba test? And maybe by that time someone reached out to some higher ups to rig the test. I would assume an initial refusal is automatic suspension of license. It is where I live. Although I haven't had to worry about that for 27 years, but I encounter people on a regular basis who are intimately involved in such circumstances

In New America, we all know that some animals are more equal than others, and that anyone with enough pull can have lab tests adjusted any which way, or samples lost or tainted. Police on the scene said "The Boss" was glassy-eyed, swaying back and forth, and completely failed the field sobriety test (taking 45 steps instead of the 19 requested; all in the article). Springsteen also refused to take a preliminary breath test, which in most states automatically forfeits your drivers license unless you're a VIP.
