The NAACP and a House Democratic lawmaker on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump, lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani and two extremist groups for their alleged roles in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
The complaint argues that Mr. Trump and Mr. Giuiliani, as well as the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers extremist groups, violated the Ku Klux Klan Act, a Reconstruction-era statute designed to protect formerly enslaved African Americans and lawmakers from white supremacist violence. The suit was brought by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi and the NAACP.

Has the venerable NAACP adopted the BLM? Or the Antifa. None of their members were even AT the riot, much less injured. Oh Pleeze.

Perhaps the NAACP should concentrate its vitriol on Black out-of-wedlock births, Black fathers abandoning their families, Black unemployment, Black on Black murders, Black kids not in school because of its friends in the teacher's unions, urban blight, etc. Do something to help your race. You're organization is nothing but a group of activists. I'll bet all your bank accounts are quite healthy so your REAL mission has been accomplished. You are shameful.

This is a publicity stunt. Unlike the Senate chambers an actual court of law cannot accept stories from the New York Times as evidence. In a real court the bar to prove incitement is set incredibly high and The TRump organization comes nowhere near this bar. I would be surprised if this gets past a reading in the lowest court in the land. It is telling that even the SDNY won't touch this with a 31 and 1/2 foot pole.

As others have said, discovery is used by both sides and by actual rules. Since this can't be controlled by 1 party, these court actions will get embarrassing quickly for the dems.

Having the NAACP be the face of this lawsuit is insulting on so many levels -- implying a racial component that doesn't exist, suggesting some sort of moral high ground, faux patriotism, lies built on lies, dripping demagoguery, misdirection, projection, cynicism at its very worst. At least it's CP history month so there's that (can I say CP?)

Didn't the Democrats remove most of the Reconstruction actions back in 1877, when they brokered a deal to allow the Republican to become President and they would remove the Feds from the Southern States?
"The Compromise of 1876 effectively ended the Reconstruction era. Southern Democrats' promises to protect civil and political rights of blacks were not kept, and the end of federal interference in southern affairs led to widespread disenfranchisement of blacks voters"
And, you have to realize, the Northern Democrats went along with this plan too.
Highly recommend everyone also watch the TV miniseries, GRANT. Very informative.

This miltaristic use of the courts has gone too far. We need to also be willing to flood the courts with lawsuits till the Supreme Court ackowledges matters have gotten out of hand and puts an end to it. WE need loser pays at EVERY level of the judicial system and use sympathetic regional juries to bankrupt the bastards. But first we need to fight back with the same weapons they employ.

Counter-sue! And while they're at it, get all the TEA Partiers and others --such as True the Vote-- who were opposed to BO policies, as they suffered harm by the Obama Admin. They'll try statute of limitations to stop the efforts, i expect, but the harm was great and very real. Sure we're obviously plowing new ground here. As we know, Obama's IRS harmed individuals financially AND were denied Constitutional rights of political expression.
We note that these sorts of infractions on people's, --CITIZENS'-- liberties did not occur during the Trump Administration.
Yes. Think about it! POTUS Trump provided to us a four year hiatus between the drive to "fundamentally transform" and revolutionize and destroy our Republic, four years of incessant attacks on him, AND efforts to prevent the smooth transition and operation of the Administration and the functions of Congress as it is meant to tend to the needs of the citizenry.
Counter sue.

the NAACP has always been a Marxist organization just like the ACLU. they have demanded through coercion and intimidation that they be recognized as a valid and justified organization all the time hiding their true intention, which is to negate the white race. so it makes them, actually, a black KKK.

Sounds like a scatter gun case aiming at everybody on what they perceive as the far-right. Chances are Trump and Giuliani don’t have a clue as to who runs the so-called Oath Keepers or the Proud Boys or much about their fringe political agendas. So how are the plaintiffs ever going to connect Trump and Giuliani to those fringe groups or their leaders? There would be no reason why Trump or Giuliani would associate their names with those fringe groups that would only cause them a lot of trouble.

What happens when the trail leads back to the FBI, and to Nancy Pelosi for ignoring requests for additional security knowing that Antifa, which does not exist, was planning to riot while wearing Trump gear? And while we're at it, can we hold the NAACP, the SPLC, and Antifa responsible for the billions of dollars in damages caused by the Black Lives Matter riots? Not exactly big thinkers, this lot.
