Newly inaugurated President Joe Biden is moving forward with his Clean Energy Agenda. At the heart of the proposed energy transition plans is the assumption that wind and solar offer cleaner and greener energy than fossil fuels, thus saving the world from a potential climate disaster.
Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader, tweeted on January 20, 2021, "The Senate Democratic majority will take up bold legislation to defeat the climate crisis by investing in clean infrastructure and manufacturing. It will create millions of good jobs for Americans, regardless of zip code."
Biden announced earlier this month that he is planning to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline

My apologies, staff. I missed breaking the headline.

Wind-powered turbine parts are made from plastics and composite materials which come from crude oil. Other parts such as the blades, generating equipment, and towers are made from materials produced by the mining industry. None of these parts can be manufactured out of thin air. Obviously, biden the cheater hasn't thought this through.

Please don't try to save the world from climate disasters. Guess what's next... a declared "climate emergency" similar to a declared health emergency, and guess what happens. No driving allowed. No cars or trucks allowed on the roads that burn fossil fuels until we flatten the curve.

You don't think so do you? I believe that you inadvertently inserted the condition that we wouldn't plunge ourselves into a Venezuelan style death spiral but I am not that generous.

A few people have considered the overall systems engineering aspects of this. Unfortunately they are being ignored by the people pushing the restrictive legislation.

Of course the Xiden administration can ignore the facts. They ignore the laws of economics, they ignore the science of DNA and they ignore the lessons of history. It's what they do best.

Adding to #2's comment, what was used to drive on to deliver those turbines? Cobble stone highways or asphalt? Guess what goes into asphalt (and roofing shingles)? If I could post a pic I've got a real good chart that shows the breakdown of what oil is used in. Over 50% goes to things other than gasoline including medicines, cosmetics, plastics (as mentioned), synthetic rubber, cleaning products and asphalt. Tell them to give up their plastic computer keyboard and go all steal or wood.

Since when do facts sway liberal opinion? If they don't like the truth, they make up their own "facts" like Michael Mann's hockey stick graph, and the 97% of climate scientists who agree on global warming.

I’ll get on the bandwagon when Fingers is flying around on an AF1 which is powered completely by the solar panels on its roof.

Wind detractors say that a turbine will not produce as much energy in its lifetime as it took to build and transport it (this includes the complete cost of raw materials). Proponents say the payback time is six months. Detractors say wind power cannot exist without subsidies while proponents say subsides can and will be phased out because they are not needed.
Somebody's lying. My money is on those who say *wind sucks*. There's your bumper sticker.

Haven't posted this in a while; it's tedious but here goes:
Data compiled from the Federal Energy Information Agency for the year 2017, the most recent full year of data compiled.
1. Gasoline consumption in the U.S. is 143 x 109 gallons for the year 2017.
2. At 125,000 BTU per gallon, this equals 1.79 x 1016 BTU.
3. Converting this energy to Kilowatt – hours (Kwh) at 3400 BTU per Kwh equals 5.26 x 1012 Kwh.
4. Current U.S. generation from all electrical generation of over 1 Kwh is 4 trillion Kwh ( 4 x 1012)
5. Subtracting current generating capacity from step 4 from the required total from step 3 above equals 1.26 x 1012 Kwh required to power electrical vehicles.
6. The average nuclear power generating station output is 4000 Megawatts, or 4000 x 106 Kw.
7. 4000 x 106 Kw x 365 x 24 x 90% availability equals 31.5 x 109 Kwh.
8. Dividing the typical nuclear generator output into the total from step 5 above gives approximately 40 new nuclear power plants required.
9. This does not even take into account efficiency losses in transmission. If (conservatively) the losses reduce output to 50% of the energy generated, this would equate to about 80 new nuclear generating stations required just to fuel all electric vehicles.
10. At a new installed cost of about 24 billion dollars per plant, this equals 1.9 trillion dollars, excluding the added cost of transmission and distribution.

Let's stop all private jets from flying anywhere outside of the US. Let's stop Hollywood from making movies outside of Hollywood. They can go back to building sets in Hollywood like the good old days. Let's stop Pelosi from flying to CA every weekend in a jet paid for by us. Let's tell all members of Congress that unless they can car pool to their homes in the US, they have to stay in DC as long as they are in session. Do not allow members of Congress to fly to other states to make speeches or campaign for others. There are so many ways to cut down on fossil fuels. Stop the fossils in Congress from traveling.

The EPA could easily mandate every dwelling in the U.S. install Solar, or the Smart Meter on the side of your house clicks off. U.S. Interstates could ban all non-electric cars from using them. A new "Cash for Clunkers" mandate could be put in place to force citizens to purchase Electric Cars.
An out of control Government can do all kinds of things.

We recently saw the propellers of wind turbines being transported by a freight train. They appear to be quite heavy and massive in size. I assume they are offloaded somewhere than hauled by diesel-burning trucks to some remote location for assembly. Lots of fossil fuels are burned just to get them in place.

Also, #19, the turbine blades can't be recycled at present, so they require a huge space in a landfill whenever one has to be replaced.

Totally plausible, #3. Either travel "lockdowns" or gas rationing, until we're all herded into mass transportation. Private vehicles will become like private airplanes - affordable to the very few.

WInd and solar are extremely expensive, and exceptionally unreliable. They must have conventional, reliable powerplants to take over when they falter (every night, every low wind day).
Another way to make us a third world country, make the power grid unreliable.
