An internal Capitol Police intelligence report issued three days before the January 6 riot warned that 'Congress itself' could be the target of MAGA protesters. The report noted that Trump supporters saw January 6—the day that Biden's electoral college win would be certified by Congress—'as the last opportunity to overturn the results of the presidential election.' 'This sense of desperation and disappointment may lead to more of an incentive to become violent,' the report warned. It continued that the rioters' potential targets were 'not necessarily the counter-protesters as they were previously, but rather Congress itself.' Meanwhile, Capitol Police confirmed Friday

Memphis, Tenn.—The remains of General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife are set to be removed from Health Sciences Park in Memphis soon. A controversial figure, Forrest’s statute was removed from Health Sciences Park in 2017, but his remains and those of his wife’s were not. Now years later, the family has agreed to move the remains to Columbia, Tennessee, the home of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Edward Phillips is the attorney representing the family. He said they were shocked when the statue was taken down, but has agreed to move the remains so they can put this all behind them.

China has come up with a new ice cream no one wants to try. During routine government testing recently, three samples from a northern China ice cream company came back positive for COVID-19. Officials now believe that 4,836 boxes of the ice cream may have been contaminated—more than half of which had already been distributed for sale when the test results came back, Sky News reported Friday. Only 2,089 boxes of ice cream could be confiscated in time, the report said. The ice cream was produced by the Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Company, where the 1,662 employees were tested Thursday, and were quarantining.

John Weaver, a co-founder of the anti-Trump conservative group Lincoln Project, admitted Friday to sending several men sexually explicit messages and propositions for sex, according to a report. Reports of his uninvited homosexual advances surfaced this week but Mr. Weaver, a longtime Republican operative, acknowledged the behavior Friday, according to Axios. “To the men I made uncomfortable through my messages that I viewed as consensual mutual conversations at the time: I am truly sorry. They were inappropriate and it was because of my failings that this discomfort was brought on you,” Mr. Weaver told the news website. The propositions sometimes were “coupled with

President-elect Joe Biden will retire the name 'Operation Warp Speed' as he rolls out his own plan to distribute COVID-19 vaccines after calling President Donald Trump's effort 'dismal' Thursday night. Biden will present his plan from Wilmington, Delaware Friday afternoon. '[Operation Warp Speed] is the Trump team's name for their program. We are phasing in a new structure, which will have a different name than OWS,' incoming White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Twitter. 'Many of the public servants will be essential to our response, but urgent need to address failures of the Trump team approach to vaccine distribution.'

It is grim news in troubled times. A new Axios-Ipsos poll reveals that the public fears the nation is in dire straits. “Fourth-fifths of Americans—both Republicans and Democrats—say America is falling apart,” Axios said in an analysis of the poll, which was conducted Monday through Wednesday. “Why it matters: The question, asked Tuesday and Wednesday, reflects the collision of crises besetting the country—the backdrop of a pandemic, recession, decoupling of red/blue America, and racial injustice and the immediacy of the Capitol insurrection, followed by Impeachment II,” the pollster said.

There’s a central room in the new National Museum of African American Music–one that connects to all other corners of the 56,000-square-foot space. It’s called the “Rivers of Rhythm” corridor, and once you step inside, you’re awash in the sounds that have defined America for 400 years. On one end, you hear voices harmonizing over centuries-old spirituals, blending into the earliest recordings of Delta blues. At the same time, the opening saxophone flourishes of John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme” beckon from the other side of the hall, while Ice Cube tears into the first bars of “Straight Outta Compton.”

Boston—A memorial honoring Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King is moving forward in Boston, where the civil rights couple met and studied in the 1950s. Organizers are building what they say will be the country's largest memorial dedicated to racial equity at the site of a 1965 civil rights rally that MLK led on the city's historic Boston Common. Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has vowed to lead an international fight against censorship by social media giants that have blocked President Trump from using his accounts. “I can tell you that at the first G20 meeting we have, I am going to make a proposal on this issue,” López Obrador said Thursday. “Yes, social media should not be used to incite violence and all that, but this cannot be used as a pretext to suspend freedom of expression.” Foreign Relations Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said the administration has already made contact with other governments to form a coalition over the issue.

Now is the time, says former U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, for the Republican Party to transform to survive. A day after the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump for the second time, Corker told Knox News the party must rid itself of the Trumpism that has taken over the GOP. “Look, there's no one that feels more strongly about the fact that Republicans ought to celebrate some of the policy gains that have occurred,” he said, “but never ever, ever allow someone like President Trump to serve again, certainly to become the Republican nominee or be president of the

A man notorious for cheating on his wife, sometimes with white prostitutes he'd knock around for spite, is memorialized for his fidelity. What will happen at the annual racial equity festivals? There are not many statues of WHITE people left to tear down, so maybe a few rounds of polar bear hunting are on tap.
