The number of police officers retiring in Chicago and other cities has soared amid a chorus of anti-police rhetoric that’s become increasingly loud over the past year.
In Chicago, 560 officers retired in 2020 in a police department that had about 13,100 sworn officers as of March, records show. That’s about 15% more cops retiring than during the previous year, when the number of retirements rose by nearly 30%. (Snip) The upswing in cop retirements in Chicago already is hurting the police pension system, according to Lappe. About 1,100 more people are now getting pensions than the number who are paying into the fund in Chicago, he said.

Well, Chicago just put themselves into another financial hole with retirements. When will they ever learn?

Simple - now just fill the vacancies with 'social workers' to defuse situations where cops might go in with guns a'blazin'. Alternatives like soothing words and non-threatening hand gestures. Also, be sure to tell the women to 'Calm Down". That'll work.

Equally troubling is that some of those who stay, will avoid false charges against them by avoiding troublesome cases. And that will spell trouble for Chicago.

#5 called it, as the old ones who remain and the new ones who join will do everything in their power NOT to police, meaning even if there are "enough" police, there will not be enough who will police. Amazing the difference between a noun and a verb.

They'll have the social workers out any time now to replace them.
That will not be a good thing for anyone.

Democrat mathematical genius at work all over the country. More criminals plus fewer police equals more crime. For a bonus, don't allow the police to make arrests or detain criminals.

A friend who lives in Chicago calls it "Chiraq". Going to be heading ever closer to that as the police leave and stop bothering with 'bothering people'.

Please don't move to Florida. Bad enough people are getting on a plane to come here to be vaccinated against the virus.

From now on, thanks to Antifa and BLM, cities across the United States will lose experienced officers in droves, and they´ll be replaced (one hopes), only their replacements will be rookies. That´s real smart, lefties: hector, threaten, and dox thousands of experienced cops out of their jobs so that we get inexperienced and untried officers who will almost certainly not be as effective - nor as respectful of individual liberty, such as our First and Fourth Amendment protections. The country as a whole will be much worse off for this stunt. And, since Trump voters tend to be armed and better able to protect themselves, the lefty sheep who helped bring this about will be the ones who pay the price for this crime spree, very disproportionately. Suckers.
BTW I wish the retiring officers a long and happy retirement. They damn well deserve it after the vicious abuse that´s been heaped on them, especially since Ferguson.

Well, not to worry Chicago! Pres. Biden will now see to your every need. Money will flow into your Coffers to cover the mismanagement by your Governor and Mayor. Meanwhile, the Taxpayers in Well Run Republican States will have to pay more taxes so your Vaunted President can look like Mr. Big, handing out cash to IL, Ny and the rest of the Democrat run States!

Many now are retired in place, meaning they only do what they have to do. In addition, every time in history where police were hired in large groups, very bad hires were made because of the rush to fill positions. People who would not be hired are now hired because they have no one else, so the standards are dropped. The bad cop hires cause havoc on the department as many turn to criminality. This is also going to be compounded by the apathy of the present officers who will not train their new charges properly because they stoped doing their job proactively when all this began. American cities will all be no-go zones.

Gee, I seem to remember that a couple of weeks ago a social worker went out to try to defuse a domestic violence incident and wound up dead. I think he was beaten to death by the homies. Don’t remember where it was but it had to have been one of these suicidal blue cities.

The mayor will eventually appoint her own "law enforcement officers" who will NOT swear to protect and defend the Constitution. Their allegiance will be to something else, perhaps the CCP.
After all, nature abhors a vacuum.

The situation will get worse as Bitme's DOinJ assumes control. Kristen Clarke is on record as a proponent of defunding police. After an onslaught of "Pattern and Practice" suits against them, police departments will be successfully neutered. Any officers that remain on the job will be R-O-D status ("retired-on-duty").

If you want an eye-opening look at crime statistics in the windy city check out the website "heyjackass.com" (excuse the name but it is what it is). It will make your hair stand on end. If you're unfamiliar with the city, the highest crime areas are black and brown...if you get my drift. Some inconvenient truths about Covid are there as well.

This is exactly the outcome that blm, antifa and Lightfoot want. Anti-cop will ruin the already ruined city to and even further situation. Nice job Mayor. I see now that President Trump is going you are saying it's safe to reopen. This indicates to me that your city is run by a clown show that has nothing but political motivations.

Sorry, but I just do not care about the big cities anymore. The vast majority of socialist and commies live and run the big cities. They have ruined America and they have no intention of backing off. I have enough trouble doing what I can to keep the Left out of my small town. I have no time or desire to care about what happens in the cesspool big city. Big cities are socialist in nature. Small communities are Libertarian in nature. I do not need to be around a bunch of people to feel at home. So for you that love city life, good for you and but please stay where you are. I will stay out of your city so please stay out of my town. We can all unite by staying the heck away from one another. Ya all have a blessed day.

I am ashamed to even say I am originally from there. In many parts of town and since the police department is understaffed now, there are armed overweight rent-a-guards at grocery stores who look like they are armed with water pistols. My 83-year old aunt who lived in the Shiller Park neighborhood got robbed and beaten right in front of her own home in the middle of the day a few years ago. The female black attacker even said, "sorry, white ma'am, to beat the crap out of you and break your teeth for your purse, but, I'm in the middle of a gang initiation". It's that bad now.

If you have a crazed mania charging at you, the cops have a split second to decide, shoot or not. If not, they get killed. If they do, they get suspended, ostracized, sued individually, and have to move somewhere else. I don't think many people would take this job.

Here's another lesson for the democrats... the cops are leaving and more citizens are leaving Chicago... property in chicago is being abandoned at an alarming rate...duh... if you lose the people... you lose the tax base... you lose people to control and dictate to...you lose voters... not that that bothers democrats... they've had dead men voting for years... that's how obama became our senator in the middle of the night...he was hand picked by the democrats to run for president all along... then WE were "shamed" into voting for him for president... where he apologized to the world what a big bad country America is.... no wonder the democrats hate President Trump...he saved our country with his MAGA movement...

I'm surprised there are any police in Chicago at all. They could retire, take other jobs or take police jobs elsewhere. Why work for the swamp lizard and see people dying constantly?

I have read a lot of great points posted here and I can tell you all it's right on the money. I retired after 32 years in law enforcement and If I had to do it all over again, I would find a different career.
Most police officers on the street now have stopped being proactive because it can only get them in trouble.

This is truly amazing since anyone who has stuck it out long enough to be able to retire there has by definition been pretty good at maneuvering their respective swamps. Even the rats are now giving up!
I would have never made it that far!
