A Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor and researcher who has received almost $20 million from the Department of Energy was arrested Thursday after he allegedly failed to disclose ties to the People’s Republic of China. Mechanical engineering professor Gang Chen faces charges of wire fraud, failing to file a foreign bank account report, and making a false statement in a tax return, the U.S. attorney’s office in Boston revealed Thursday. Prosecutors allege the 56-year-old professor, who is a naturalized U.S. citizen born in China, has held a number of positions on behalf of the PRC with the goal of promoting China’s technological and scientific capabilities.

Why can’t they just stick to what they know best: organizing Pai Gow underground games, cockfighting and Russian roulette tourneys, opium dens, and rub and tugs in the deepest darkest dankest underbelly of the Chinatown of your closest large inner city?

If you are really, really serious about what’s going on with China (has been for some time through various administrations) do read Michael Pillsbury’s The Hundred-Year Marathon: China's Secret Strategy to Replace America as the Global Superpower. Our universities have been loaded up with these people. Pillsbury describes it all in some detail. He admits that for a long time he had hope for a democratic, capitalist China that would be a peaceful member of the global community. He further admits that he was dead wrong about that, and so were many others in positions of authority in our Congress and administrations. We hear the word “chilling” bandied about. Well, this is chilling. The hundred years in the title (actually a plan by the Chinese) is due to come to complete fruition in 2049. No, this is not a commercial. Just a very strong recommendation. The operative word in the title is Secret. Pillsbury says that Deception is the enabler of the Chinese long, long term strategy.

‘Packed us together like sardines’: Guard
deployed to Capitol struggles to contain Covid

The National Guard has struggled to implement a plan to test troops flowing into and out of Washington, D.C., for Covid-19, with some Guard members being forced to find their own tests and others pressured to leave their quarantine early to report to duty. Already, hundreds of Guard members who poured into Washington, D.C., after the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol have tested positive for Covid-19 or are quarantining in nearby hotels, three Guard sources said. Guard leadership has declined to release an official number of positive cases, but troops and lawmakers alike worry that the deployment is becoming a superspreader event.

Even Hollywood extras for crowd scenes receive far better treatment than the National Guard troops that were mobilized to protect Biden’s inauguration from a non-existent threat. Yesterday, I called it “insurrection theatre” because the massive deployment was all about generating an atmosphere of fear and painting supporters of Donald Trump as an imminent threat to the Republic because they re aching for overthrow of the government. The excuse, of course, was the incursion of the Capitol, a disgusting event, but hardly a sign of a vast insurrection plot that would require tens of thousands of armed troops to deter or defend against. Where was there any evidence of a mass movement

A surprising fact check from a surprising source. After all, CNN spent yesterday morning trying to push the nonsensical claim from Joe Biden’s White House that Donald Trump’ distribution plan for COVID-19 vaccines had been “non-existent,” a claim that flew in the face of 36 million doses distributed to states and 17 million vaccinations delivered by the time Biden walked into the Oval Office. By the end of the day, even liberal journalists were tossing fact-check flags on CNN. Perhaps this is an effort to wipe the egg off of their collective face: Biden defended the 100 million goal. He told the reporter:

President Biden has a coronavirus plan. The plan is to mostly continue the coronavirus plan of the Trump administration but use credulous reporters who can’t do division to convince the world that he has hatched a brilliant new coronavirus plan. And up until tonight, it worked flawlessly. Now that some reporters have put some denominators into some numerators, though, Biden’s on the defensive. But first, let’s look at how Biden successfully spun things for a while. Consider this headline and article from Biden’s first full day:

ATLANTA — Hank Aaron, who endured racist threats with stoic dignity during his pursuit of Babe Ruth’s home run record and gracefully left his mark as one of baseball’s greatest all-around players, died Friday. He was 86. The Atlanta Braves, Aaron’s longtime team, said he died peacefully in his sleep. No cause was given. Aaron made his last public appearance just 2 1/2 weeks ago, when he received the COVID-19 vaccine. He said he wanted to help spread the to Black Americans that the vaccine was safe. “Hammerin’ Hank” set a wide array of career hitting records during a 23-year career spent mostly with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves

Importantly, as Axios pointed out, the Senate is constitutionally mandated to begin a trial for an impeached federal official by 1 p.m. on the day after the article is sent to them, meaning that Trump's trial will begin next week.

"Garage kept" may be great for classic cars -- but for National Guard members it may be disrespectful. Reports of shabby treatment of National Guard troops at the U.S. Capitol were sparking bipartisan outrage among lawmakers and other officials Thursday -- with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott calling for the return home of his state's Guard members. Thousands of National Guard troops from several states had deployed to the U.S. Capitol to protect Wednesday's inauguration of President Biden against threats of violence following the Jan. 6 riot.

Govs. Ron DeSantis, Chris Sununu and Greg Abbott announced that they are bringing their National Guard troops back from Washington, D.C., after reports they were posted up in a parking garage near the Capitol to rest during their shifts, a move that caused outrage at the treatment of the servicemembers. The U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) ordered the troops to move their rest area during their 12-hour shifts from inside the Capitol to the Thurgood Marshall Judicial Center parking garage, the National Guard said Friday. But Acting USCP Chief Yogananda Pittman pushed back on that assertion in a statement. "I want to assure everyone that, with the exception of specific times

President Joe Biden has gotten into his first dustup with the media since taking office. It happened Thursday in the White House when the AP’s Zeke Miller pressed Biden about one of the signature promises of his first 100 days — the pledge that 100 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine will be administered in that time. “You set the goal at 100 million vaccines in the first 100 days — is that high enough?” Miller asked. “Shouldn’t we set the bar higher? That’s basically where the U.S. is right now.” Biden bristled at the question and sniped at Miller in response. “When I announced it

CNN is under fire for publishing an anonymously sourced "scoop" that the Biden administration will have to "build everything from scratch" because there was no Trump plan to distribute coronavirus vaccines, when reality tells a far different story. A CNN producer pushed the story from reporter MJ Lee as a "great SCOOP" on "how bad this situation is with vaccine distribution." The story quoted anonymous figures with knowledge of the administration's COVID-related work as saying there was "nothing for us to rework" and there was no plan at all: "just further affirmation of complete incompetence."

Thousands of National Guardsmen were forced to vacate congressional grounds on Thursday and are now taking their rest breaks outside and in nearby parking garages, after two weeks of sleepless nights protecting the nation’s capital in the wake of the violent assault on Jan. 6. One unit, which had been resting in the Dirksen Senate Office building, was abruptly told to vacate the facility on Thursday, according to one Guardsman. The group was forced to rest in a nearby parking garage without internet reception, with just one electrical outlet, and one bathroom with two stalls for 5,000 troops, the person said. “Yesterday dozens

Nothing says, “This was a perfectly normal election, and now it’s time to come together as a united nation,” like having your swearing-in behind 12-foot-high razor wire surrounded by 25,000 troops whose loyalty you doubt. That’s what we witnessed at President Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday: a grim testament to the fundamental insecurity and fragility of the re-ascendant liberal elite. Democrats no doubt hoped that the optics of this military-heavy presidential installation would convince ordinary Americans that the republic is in peril from the populist ferment that sent Donald Trump to the White House in 2016 and garnered more votes four years later than any GOP ticket, ever.

There’s still plenty of time for President Biden to remember that he does not owe his election to the far left.” Mr. McConnell, who is negotiating a power-sharing agreement with Majority Leader Charles E. But after searching the Internet for a few hours, there only remain questions, and no answers about Ashli’s shooting. My only assumption can be that the hard facts concerning the shooting are so egregious, and so threatening to the incoming Democratic Congress and new Biden Administration
