A strong majority of GOP voters view themselves as Republicans rather than devotees of President Trump's Make America Great Again, or "MAGA," movement, according to a new Just the News Daily Poll with Scott Rasmussen. Among the Republican voters, 74% consider themselves "more of a Republican," while 19% see themselves as "part of MAGA nation." The numbers could reflect the fallout from last week's Capitol riot, which has been broadly characterized as being led by Trump's MAGA devotees, a key part of the president's base, helped him become president in 2016. However, there is no similar, previous polls to compared percentages.

I am a huge fan of classic Disney fare. Over the years, though, I've come to see Disney as a truly toxic company. The only reason I won't boycott it over its announcement that it will not fund politicians who challenged the Electoral College certification is that I'm already boycotting it.
Before I get to Disney's current fall (even farther) from grace, let me explain why I've been boycotting Disney for years. It was actually a hard habit to break. As is true for every American, I grew up on Disney fare. The early works are utterly enchanting.

Kevin Seefried, the man pictured carrying the Confederate flag into the Capitol during last week's riot, was arrested on Thursday in Delaware.
Seefried was arrested for his participation in the deadly Capitol riot that occurred last Wednesday, two law enforcement officers told The New York Times.
The FBI’s Washington field office sent out a tweet on Sunday asking the public for any information they had on the man carrying the Confederate flag during the Capitol raid.

Politico is facing backlash on Thursday—both internally and externally—for handing over the keys to its signature news product for the day to Ben Shapiro, an oft-incendiary right-wing commentator.
“We published a piece by a very prominent writer, provocateur, and podcaster. We stand by every word in there, it was very closely edited,” the outlet’s top editor Matt Kaminski said as part of his response to staffers during a Thursday meeting.
At another point, the top editor added: “Mischief making has always been a part of Politico’s secret sauce. We were an upstart. Some of that sensibility is always going to be a part of this publication.”

Yesterday, while debating the Democrats’ impeachment resolution, Congressman Louie Gohmert pointed out that Nancy Pelosi had (unlike President Trump) condoned rioting and civil disorder:
“Here’s a quote: ‘I just don’t even know why there aren’t more–why there aren’t uprisings all over the country and maybe there will be,'” Gohmert began. “Or, ‘Sadly, the domestic enemies of our voting system and honoring our Constitution are right at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with their allies in Congress.’ We were called ‘enemies’ of the state. Those were all quotes from our speaker.
Of course, many other instances of prominent Democrats encouraging violence could be cited as well. But journalists failed to get the point

When asked on Instagram Live whether or not Congress was discussing a plan for “federal truth and reconciliation” or “media literacy initiatives to help with healing," Ocasio-Cortez said it was being discussed and that it was an “interesting concept to explore.”
“And we're going to have to figure out how we rein in our media environment so that you can't just spew disinformation and misinformation,” the New York Democrat said. “It's one thing to have differing opinions, but it's another thing entirely to just say things that are false. And so that's something that we're looking into.”

A Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor and researcher who has received almost $20 million from the Department of Energy was arrested Thursday after he allegedly failed to disclose ties to the People’s Republic of China.
Mechanical engineering professor Gang Chen faces charges of wire fraud, failing to file a foreign bank account report, and making a false statement in a tax return, the U.S. attorney’s office in Boston revealed Thursday.
Prosecutors allege the 56-year-old professor, who is a naturalized U.S. citizen born in China, has held a number of positions on behalf of the PRC with the goal of promoting China’s technological and scientific capabilities.

The National Mall in Washington, DC will be completely closed off to the public on Inauguration Day amid ongoing security concerns.
Only security personnel and the media will be allowed to access the traditional gathering place for crowds keen to see the ceremony, according to officials who spoke to The Washington Post.
The extraordinary shutdown of the entire mall for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden comes as the city and federal authorities act to prevent further violence following the 6 January assault on the Capitol Building.

The deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol bore the markings of an organized operation planned well in advance of the Jan. 6 joint session of Congress.
A small number of cadre appeared to use the cover of a huge rally to stage its attack. Before it began, I saw from my vantage point on the West Front of the Capitol what appeared to be four separate cells or units:
Plainclothes militants. Militant, aggressive men in Donald Trump and MAGA gear at a front police line at the base of the temporary presidential inaugural platform;
Agents-provocateurs. Scattered groups of men exhorting the marchers to gather closely and tightly toward the center of the outside

In the days leading up to last week’s march on the Capitol, supporters of President Trump promoted it extensively on Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram and used the services to organize bus trips to Washington. More than 100,000 users posted hashtags affiliated with the movement prompted by baseless claims of election fraud, including #StopTheSteal and #FightForTrump. The details, emerging from researchers who have combed the service in recent days, shed new light on how Facebook services were used to bring attention to and boost attendance at the rally, which turned violent when a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol while Congress was in session.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) office told Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer's (D-N.Y.) staff on Wednesday that the GOP will not agree to reconvene the Senate before Jan. 19 to allow an impeachment trial while President Trump is still in office. A senior Senate Republican aide confirmed that McConnell's office reached out to Schumer's office to relay the message that Republicans will not agree to a Friday session to enable House Democrats to present an article of impeachment to the Senate while Trump is in office.

Politically motivated violence is wrong, disgusting, and not justifiable no matter the cause. But not according to CNN PrimeTime host Chris “Fredo” Cuomo and CNN Tonight host Don Lemon, during the Tuesday handoff between their shows. Essentially, the duo argued that the Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots from last spring and summer were cooler than last week’s Capitol Hill attack because they were “justified” and the cases were not “apples to apples.”
Their griping was spurred on by this exchange between Cuomo and DHS Undersecretary Ken Cuccinelli, after the latter recalled the destructive violence that raged for months
