Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has decided not to accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom, citing the horrific events at the Capitol last week. Here’s what the Patriots coach wrote in a statement: “Recently, I was offered the opportunity to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which I was flattered by out of respect for what the honor represents and admiration for prior recipients. Subsequently, the tragic events of last week occurred and the decision has been made not to move forward with the award. Above all, I am an American citizen with great reverence for our nation’s values, freedom and democracy

IMHO, Trump has been a bit too liberal with this award although no worse than all of his immediate predecessors (the wikipedia is ridiculous. Would like to have seen him return some dignity to the honor, but Alan Page? Elvis? Mariano Rivera? Bob Cousy? Can't wait to see the list being prepared by the Resident-elect, although he'll probably be gone due to illness before getting around to any awards so that will leave it to the 47th. Tupac, anyone?

#10 Why would you be against Elvis Presley receiving the medal? Many entertainers receive the award. Whether or not you were fond of his music should have nothing to do with this. Like it or not he changed American music forever and American culture. He was also a true patriot and one of entertainments most generous men. In the 50's it was decided to have a memorial in Honolulu in memory of the Pearl harbor attack. They were having trouble raising funds- enter Elvis a concert in Hawaii, money given to memorial fund and a private donation from Elvis himself. After the attention given to the fund raising many more donations came in. Memorial built.
