All 10 living former Defense Secretaries have delivered an extraordinary warning to President Trump in an op-ed denouncing the possibility of the military becoming involved in the current election dispute. The piece was published in The Washington Post on Monday, following calls from some Trump supporters to invoke martial law in a bid to block Joe Biden from becoming the next Commander-in-chief.(Snip) The 10 living former Defense Secretaries listed as authors of the piece are Ashton Carter, Dick Cheney, William Cohen, Mark Esper, Robert Gates, Chuck Hagel, James Mattis, Leon Panetta, William Perry and Donald Rumsfeld.

Why are 10 former Defense Sec interfering in the election process? Trump has a right to review the vote counts, and so do the 74 million that voted for him. Why can't we see the ballots and check the machines? What are you hiding?

President Trump is not about to do anything other than leave the White House in accordance with the US Constitution and the law on or before January 20, 2021 if Biden is to be inaugurated as President on that date. This Daily Mail secondhand report is no doubt just more misleading and/or fake news. All those Defense super bureaucrats are DC insiders trying to take a last shot at the ultimate DC outsider as he prepares to leave DC, at least until 2024.

There sure are a lot of these past bureaucrats sounding to me like they are saying the deserve a rope for themselves,
The more they scream "constitution!", the more it reminds me how they ignored the constitution over and over again themselves.

Not a one of them can be trusted. Donald Rumsfeld should have just kept his mouth shut; he could have gone out differently, if he had. I don't give spit about the rest of them. Don, you're on a list with Leon Panetta and the highest ranking no longer a Marine Mattis. Shame on you!

Yeah, I hate to say it, but this sounds more like CYA, than anything else. Truth be told, the untrustworthiness of the Deep State can probably be traced back to Woodrow Wilson.

Absurd. A weasly way to insult a president who has done his job well. Cheney would never been vice-president if the Republican Party hadn´t worked hard for him and W. Did any government official even mention the involvement of the military? No. The lefties are yammering about Trump interrupting the "peaceful transition of power" for no good reason.
I say, have at it on Wednesday. May the winner take the oath.

Dick Cheney kept GW's administration from being worse than what it was. I believe President Trump would have been better off with Cheney as VP rather than Pence. The current administration had the "Obama Marine" democrat running DoD and a RINO as SoS, both obstructing the president. It should be clear by now that even as they saw it coming, President Trump and his administration were unprepared for the depth of fraud that occurred in the 2020 election and could not develop a focused, effective plan on the fly to counter it. Wish it were otherwise.

Its because #4, these “formers” are generally still connected to the Federal Deep State. They need to continually maintain cordial and cooperative public relationships with the DC establishment. Remember that many or all still have lobbying connections, sit even if in name only on various Boards for six figures OR have children/grandchildren/family sprinkled across the federal government agencies in good jobs. This unified declaration against Trump is yet another coordinated move to forge the false evil narrative that he is some creepy dictator.

Right. 10 members of the Deep State sign a letter saying that the Deep State should keep power. We have been under the authoritarian rule of unelected bureaucrats since 1933. It is time to stop. The entire apparatus of boards, commissions, directorates, and so on MUST STOP. The Department of Defense is an integral part of the Deep State.
So: no surprise.

But these ex-military chiefs are happy to go along with foreign incursions that have nothing to do with defending US soil....
There can't be anything more precious at the political level than defending the integrity of the voting system, and this is something that the ex-chiefs should note. The US Supreme Court should understand this too, but I fear it has become something of a court that defers to convenience, sort of like "it's all done now, and it's not worth pursuing".

So the former Sec. of Defense are saying don't do something that Trump has not even talked about. It seems to me that the only ones who have even suggested that Trump may impose martial law are Democrats, never Trumpers, and the media (who would love for that to happen). Why would they even write this op-ed condemning something that Trump will not do but Trump's enemies have projected onto him? Pres. Trump apparently made a lot of enemies among the swamp dwellers over the past 4 years.

All manner of military adventures in foreign lands, nearly all having almost nothing to do with the interests of the USA, are safe, lawful, and constitutional. Any hint of defending the nation against domestic enemies, possibly working in concert with foreign nations, is a grave danger to the republic.
