Even during the holidays, the word police are still on duty. The University of Michigan’s “Words Matter Task Force” has issued a list of about two dozen words/phrases that could be offensive and lack inclusivity, along with a list of more politically correct replacement terms. (Snip) However, the initiative also seeks to replace benign terms such as “brown bag,” and “long time no see,” and “picnic. The recommended substitutes are “lunch and learn,” “it’s been a while/I haven’t see you in ages,” and “gathering,” respectively.

They think they are helping. No one has ever challenged them to consider the consequences. It’s truly sad how the world is devolving.

I detest the word Michigan. It comes from Indian dialects meaning large body of water. From now on people from Michigan should be referred to as the people from a large body of water.

If the words "brown bag" upsets you I suggest you dig a hole in your backyard, get in it, and have a friend shovel the dirt on top of you. This is so f - ing stupid. This is the crap that we will have to deal with because biden and his idiot staff will embrace this nonsense with both hands. Don' tell me what to think, say, believe or anything else.

Cleveland will be in big trouble. Their sports teams are the Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers (who were Monarchists). And they once had a hockey team called The Barrons - as in Barron Trump !

Completely agree with this. What are they gonna do with, e.g. quotes from playwrights or poets?
One of my favorite adjectives, that they'll never stumble upon: insipid.

A big sign of ignorance in somebody are the amount of skills they possess in language and vocabulary knowledge. Unfortunately, in the education system we have now, language and vocabulary is barely pushed anymore. So you get people who are going to be so gullible and buy into things like these lists. What kind of twisted sister thinking makes the word picnic a bad thing? O long time no see? That isn't a slam on blind people. It is simply saying you haven't seen somebody in a very long time. This is just getting beyond ridiculous.

Besides being hokey (is that word safe?), what is so politically offensive about "long time no see"?

As Steyn says in so many words, it’s tough to think without language. Without language we’re just a bunch of grunting brutes.

I have some words too but I can't use them here. Note that all of our "freedoms" are disappearing.
Thank gawd I was born in a time when we were not only happy, but free. Stand up and be counted before you can't.

The French like 'picnic.' They've appropriated it. Pique-niquer.
Replace that? How gauche.
