More than 60 million people have been placed under weather warnings as what's expected to be the most powerful nor'easter in a decade begins to dump up to two feet of snow across the East Coast with winds of up to 50mph. Winter Storm Gail began blanketing areas from northern Virginia to New York City to southern Maine with powder on Wednesday afternoon as governors around the region urged residents to stay safe indoors. Snowfall in the Big Apple is set to be the heaviest seen in December in a decade with 12 inches forecast. 'Take this seriously,' Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a tweet announcing that schools

What is a normal winter day in Minnesota is somehow a massive catastrophe if it occurs in the northeast.

Headline put me in mind of the old movie/TV actress, Gail Storm. My Dad was LAPD and worked the Hollywood parties as private security when off-duty. Gail knew how to throw a storm of a party. At the end of one such party my Dad reported that Gail's left falsie had slipped down to her waist. Is there an analogy here to the New York City snowfall?

One of the few areas that the Mail is good at reporting, with lots of photos and maps. The Southwest is looking pretty parched in that satellite photo, which looks like it came from GOES-16 - proud to say I played a small part in providing a critical piece of hardware for that project.

# 2, I wonder if Gail was at all embarrassed. Probably too well plastered to care? :-)

Yep. It's called winter, sometimes a bit worse than other times.
Learning to drive in winter is a necessary skill in any area where it snows. If you don't know how, you should stay off the roads.
When my wife was first exposed to snow, I took her to a big, empty parking lot to practice skids and recoveries in the snow until she was good at it. I had taught myself the same way a few years earlier, after learning the basics on sand roads in Florida.

We were supposed to have a mild winter this year. So far we had an ice storm in October and now we have five inches of snow everywhere. Mild, ha!

#6 - Correct assumption. Dad said that she was at the door saying goodbye to her guests as they were leaving. He watched the falsie slowly slide down. She carried on oblivious, and if any guest noticed they refrained from commenting.

The road crews can't keep up with what was once a normal Northeast event. People should be smart enough to avoid the highways without "expert" advice from their elected idiots. No destination is worth mixing it up with tractor trailers on snowy roads.

On the eastern shore Va. We had 1-2" of rain, my rain gauge is put up for the winter. It poured in spurts, about every 30 minutes a downpour. The wind kicked up late afternoon, and I stayed inside as much as possible. Glad to be east of I-95.

The snow is snowing, the wind is blowing
But I can weather the storm
What do I care how much it may storm
I've got my wind mills & solar panels to keep me warm

Now I know why people move south after they retire or before if they're lucky. After the last two winters being virtually snowless, a four inch snowfall creates a mess. The problem isn't the snow, it's the ice under the snow. Driving on a skating rink is a recipe for disaster. It snowed, then it rained, then it snowed again. There's a reason I don't live in a colder climate state, and this snowstorm is the perfect example of why I don't. I guess I'll be looking farther south now that I'm retiring.

So no change from the governors regarding their subjects.Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise to finally end the 'Plandemic;. But I wonder how many people who freeze to death will be listed as Wuhan flu?

Named winter storms are a gimmick invented by the Weather Channel in 2012. They are not recognized by the National Weather Service.

I just want everybody in the affected areas to stay safe this the next few days. It isn't the folks that drive with commonsense that is the problem, it is the idiots, morons and numpty heads who don't. I know we poke fun at those who go a bit overboard in the warnings, but just remember something. The warnings are directed at people who think that light olive oil is for dieting, not that it is the final pressing of the olives.

The Leftist Northeast spends everything it takes in, and demands more from the Feds. Is this storm a "Disaster"? Not by Maine standards. But these Blue states need to cry disaster to enable them to get Uncle Sugar to pony up the money to pay for what should have been in their budgets already. Not unlike the Medical supplies the states were bereft of until the Feds provided them for Covid.
