Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh gave a heartbreaking update this week on his health and the medical challenges he is facing as he deals with cancer.During a segment Tuesday on his radio program, Rush told his loyal audience that "every day remains a gift" and that he is sorry for having to miss a show here and there so he can go get his cancer treatments.“A great day to be back, folks. Thank you so much. I apologize for being out,” he started.“I remember mentioning at the very beginning of this that there were going to be random days where I would just need to take off.

You have to wonder how some people can beat cancer and others don't stand a chance. Sounds like Rush is one of the those who might not make it. Just one year ago this month, my SIL was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, she lived 5 months and died this past May. And then I think of one of my brothers, a drug addict and alcoholic, who lived on the streets of Seattle for 30 years before coming clean about 15 years ago. Four years ago he was diagnosed with lung cancer, brain cancer three years ago and is still alive and functioning. Last week his doctor told my other brother he is a walking miracle. I just can't understand why some make it and others don't.

The randomness of cancer is what makes it so scary #1. I had a much beloved brother in law die at age 52 of cancer. Worked for UPS. Retired at age 50 from that job, and less than a year after he retired was diagnosed with cancer. He looked healthy the whole time he went through radiation treatments. One would never think anything was medically wrong with him, but each time the cancer seemed to go away, it came roaring back. When presented with another option of treatment, he said I've had enough, and was gone within four months.

Keep praying for him friends. I have seen the power of prayer a couple of times in my own life. Prayer works! A couple of months ago he said that he was amazed to still be alive and here he is today, not only alive but on fire.

He has no need to ever apologize for missing a show due to treatments he needs. Not Ever. He has picked a great fill in host we all enjoy named Mark Steyn. That helps a lot, and Steyn does the best job so far of his fill ins. The other guy I like IIRC is named Ted? I heard him recently and I thought he had a lot of passion. If this brings Rush closer to God as he lives his trials, I think this will be worth it in the end.

I enjoy Mark Steyn, and many other fill-ins are good but who will replace Rush (not that there is anyone who really can)? Who is capable of doing all the background work Rush does? Who is capable of getting right to the meat of a subject? Who has the incredible insight Rush has into liberalism? I don't think Steyn is the answer but who is? Tucker Carlson? Hannity? Who does anyone think would be the best?

# 5, your post is trenchant. We all know that no one could replace El Rushbo, and if the time comes we can look forward (if that is the appropriate term) to business considerations taking over. The contractual arrangements which govern among the stations which carry his program will no doubt kick in, and none of us can begin to know how that legal stew will work out. Bottom line - we have no reason to think that any individual, however worthy, will assume the role that Rush has single handedly created. The Author of Life in His infinite wisdom will determine. We are all on borrowed time, Rush's situation is a sharp reminder.

Every day is a gift for ALL of us! We're all headed for the same inevitable destination, and nobody knows how many years or days he has left before arriving.
Rush has dealt with his mortality with grace and courage and dignity. I hope he can continue to do so for a long, long time. My life has been blessed, as I've tuned into him for many years. God speed, El Rushbo!

I always cringed when Rush would talk about enjoying his cigars, after having a grandfather and father die of emphysema brought on by smoking.
I hope that Rush can still beat this, but every day any of us has at this age is a gift, really. I am almost exactly Rush's age, and so far, not too bad, but age takes it's toll. For me, the eyes are the biggest loss.
Best wishes for Rush, he has been a real God-send (literally) to our country.

As a cancer survivor, every day is a gift. I would not wish cancer or chemo on anyone. This breaks my heart.
