The mass exodus from New York City amid the COVID-19 crisis has cost $34 billion in lost income, according to a new study released Tuesday. About 3.57 million people fled New York City between Jan. 1 and Dec. 7 this year—and they were replaced by some 3.5 million people earning lower average incomes, the findings from Unacast said.(Snip) “Maybe the greater impact is how the population is changing and how the demographics are changing.”
To reach its findings, Unacast analyzed anonymized cell phone location data to look at the impact COVID has had on three neighborhoods: Williamsburg, Astoria and Tribeca.

No worries, they plan to recoup that money from the rest of US--you know, the states that didn't shut down and chase away their taxpaying base.

A no-go zone for me. I wouldn't spend a dime in a place that disrespected a President in front of his hotel.

Where did these ridiculous numbers come from? There is no way almost half the population of NYC moved out in 11 months, nor could almost the same number have moved in. Average exodus over the last few years has been less than 150,000.

Problem is, many of those leftist rich yankees are moving down South and WE don't want them, either!

I'm sure all the blue cities will have all their financial worries completely covered by some Biden EO. They will be debt free, just like all the Gender Studies SJWs and their student loan debt.

This article's numbers make no sense at all. They suggest 40% of the city left and almost the same number who weren't as affluent came in. That simply did not happen. What are the real figures?

Doubtful those numbers are correct unless they are tracking people who simply leave the City to visit, say Cape Cod, then return a few weeks later.
What they do have, however, is a large drain on high-income folks who've left. And, it's very difficult to replace the lost revenues of millionaires and billionaires. California will feel the impact of just 1 person who's left the state, Elon Musk.
What many Red States should do is enact an income tax that captures half of what NY and NYC were taxing, which will still seem like a bargain for those ultra-rich, but help with State finances.

#11, more taxes are ALWAYS a bad thing. No exceptions, ever.
The more money these corruptocrats have, the more worthless, anti-freedom garbage they will do.

The people who left that Schiffhole didn't lose a thing but they gained a lot in safer living conditions, lower taxes, increased buying power and the satisfaction of knowing that their new mayor is not the flaming jackass that de Blasio has become. NYC living conditions will become much worse when Biden and the Jamaican Bimbo do not come through with the bailout money.

Well, in South Jersey, traditionally a summer tourist community, there are more people here now than ever for this time of year. The Florida snowbirds have left.Hardly a house for sale is not bought up to live in or to rent within a short time. People have moved out of NY and Philadelphia area and work from here. Some go back and forth if they have to.
