Tesla CEO Elon Musk put his California houses on the market this year while he was sparring with state lawmakers over Covid-19 restrictions. He’s simultaneously been expanding operations in Texas and cozying up to Republican Gov. Greg Abbott. Now, several of his close friends and associates say that Musk has told them he’s planning to move to the Lone Star State. The people with knowledge of his plans asked not to be named because their conversations were private.
Musk, the world’s second-wealthiest person behind Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, is in Texas frequently already. He spends most of his time between Austin, where Tesla and his tunnel start-up Boring Company

Musk blabbed about this weeks ago. Old news.

Musk was given a gift of Fremont when the State decided to force Toyota to give it up, as hush payment for them to quell the brake problem they had a few years back.
Toyota never forgot how they were treated, and left their Southern California HQ without advising anyone in Sacramento (then again, no one in Sac-town was asking if they were happy either) for Texas.
Nestle's US had their HQ in Glendale, CA, then bolted.
Just the other day, HP advised they too will leave California.
Yet, most people don't seem to notice or care, they just wish more would leave so the traffic would be lighter.
Sadly, 1/3 of the state is on welfare, the once lofty University system has declined and doesn't even require a SAT or ACT test any longer. The K-12 system used to be at the top in the nation, but now ranks in the bottom 5.
The State's public employee pension system can't make enough on their investments to keep up with the massive payments due, which then are required to be covered by the general fund, thus, crowding out other services soon.
And, when you keep losing these billionaires who pay massive taxes, it's not very easy to make up the lost revenues.

As an extension to this - high taxes on businesses causing them to look for low tax alternatives in other states - a lot of companies who've had work-from-home policies because of Covid are looking at the bottom line regarding rent or mortgages on corporate buildings along with utilities, maintenance, janitorial services and security. It would not be surprising if corporate America has a large decline in office space requirements after everything opens back up. Someone in Texas can work on-line for a company in California and vice versa. It would not be surprising for a lot of companies that move to Texas have their employees decide where they want to live as they work on-line.

Can us Texans get a veto on this? Thanks, Musk, but no thanks. Austin doesn't need any more rabid liberals. We've got the worst ones quarantined there and we are running out of room.

Hold on, folks... Maybe Space Force needs to get closer to Houston, “Do you read me”?
Leaving beautiful Monterey... and our home two blocks from the majestic Bay... and Trump Rallies still every Sunday!
Sadly, CA too oppressive now... got my next degree in LA in 2016, loved Monterey, but not heading for Texas though mum was from Big D... the ‘white sugar beaches’ of the SW FL
Gulf need our footprints...

Too many people from CA are moving to Texas. In reality, Texas does NOT want them. It's like here in Adams County PA, we are getting residents from liberal Maryland suburbs. They destroyed those counties in Maryland so now they are now moving here to do the same. We do NOT want them!

Since they've all made money owning his stock, I doubt the liberal cry-babies will be demonstrating outside their HQ demanding he "pay his fair share". And yes, lots of his liberal employees with infect Texas eventually.

#12, I'm a fan of your wit and wisdom--
Austin, Texas has become a cesspool since those in government decided NOT to do anything about the lawlessness and homeless. It would seem they are trying to out-taxifornia the left coast, an it is NOT representative of the Great State of Texas.
Many really good Republican candidates lost their elections due to the voting lines emanating from Travis County. The NY/Hollyweird/Lib billionaires spend well over 150 million dollars in an effort to win the Legislature and the authority to create new voting districts to consolodate demonrat socialist rule.
Those evil forces lost, and Republicans actually gained seats to increase their previous 9-seat majority, but there were many counties who had Republicans candidates win them only to see Travis county negate their victory because of the overwhelming concentration of demonrat socialists.
They preach and preach to us, and their Mayor is off to Mexico after a wedding in the family-- many who did not wear masks! (The ultimate 'shame' WORSE than murder!) Then he tries to rationalize EVERYTHING when caught RED HANDED-- Unless this cretin resigns, this will continue as an abberation!
Several counties bordering Travis county is where the people who WORK in Austin like to live because of lower taxes, cheaper cost of living, and no ridiculous mandates, but Hays and Williamson Counties are fighting back against the overflow, but are swimming against the tide.
Tesla is building a truck facility at a rapid pace, 24-hours a day, but the question remains-- what happens if you are on your farm or ranch and run out of juice? Where is the next "charging station" when you are out in the boonies?
