The following is a roundup of some of the latest scientific studies on the novel coronavirus and efforts to find treatments and vaccines for COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus. Certain blood groups less likely to get COVID-19. A large study adds to evidence that people with type O or Rh−negative blood may be at slightly lower risk from the new coronavirus. Among 225,556 Canadians who were tested for the virus, the risk for a COVID-19 diagnosis was 12% lower and the risk for severe COVID-19 or death was 13% lower in people with blood group O versus those

Another co-relative study. They are useful, but not definitive. Vitamin D, as well as vitamin C and zinc are no-brainers, however.

Our son tested positive for covid. There for 4 others living in the same household with him. We were all exposed, none of us caught it. Two of us have type O, the other two do not. Can't explain it... Makes me wonder though....... What is really going on?

I am DAMN tired of crap research with bogus conclusions. While I have no problem with the primary result that having Type O blood may lower risk of illness SEVERITY, the headline suggesting Vitamin D is unlikely to help is deliberately misleading. Other than steroids almost no therapy seems to help those with disease severe enough to require hospitalization. Showing the same result when giving Vitamin D for those severely ill doesn't support that headline when other studies appear the show a benefit when D is used preventively or early.

Correlation does not equal causation. The media is too dumb to get this straight... ever.

I'm type O and take an "old people" vitamin every day. Feel fine. Probably will continue to.

Vitamin D supplements take several days to be metabolized - first going to the liver & then to the kidneys & then to the blood. In Spain they did a good study that showed supplementing a metabolized form of Vitamin D - Calcifediol - to patients in hospital kept 90% of them out of ICU. Just read a good study at Watts Up With That which noted Vitamin D is good but not sufficient - one needs to get out in the sunlight - UVB helps make 'natural' antibiotics in the body. We use the the prophylactic guidelines put out early on by the Eastern Virginia Medical School. They have changed it up a bit lately - adding Ivermectin. This is our recipe: Vitamin C — 500 mg; Quercetin [The Gun]— 250 mg (a bioflavinoid/ Chinese herbal – Vitamin P); Zinc [The Bullet] — 75-100 mg/day (acetate, gluconate or picolinate); Melatonin (slow release) 2 mg at night; Vitamin D3 — 2,000 to 4,000 IU’s per day. Zinc is anti-viral but does not stay with you nor does it easily cross the cell membrane so one needs something like HCQ or Quertecin to get into the cell.

Reuters may be unreliable on some things, but the part of this article about type O blood came from the Annals of Internal Medicine and was about a fairly large study. At the end of that segment is a tiny url link to this:
https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M20-4511
The part on Vitamin D for severely ill Covid19 patients is also from a report on a small study, which carries with it he caveat that it has not yet been peer reviewed.
So it is my opinion that Reuters played it straight with these summaries of research studies. No need to dismiss them without reading the article and following the links.

5000 IU Vit D3 daily for 5+ years along with Elderflower. So far no illness. Hope to keep it that way. Recently added K2. I think a positive attitude helps to keep one healthy.

Bottom line - you might get "it" or you might not. Can't believe we're coming up on year of this WuFlu hysteria.

Thank you #11 - I try to bring this up whenever someone is fear-mongering and chiding about "how important it is to Wear Your Mask, and to Be Careful. Oh so careful. We're being cautious, oh yes, staying home, avoiding friends. Be Safe!"
The typical masks are ineffective. There is much more that can be done. These supplements seem simple, readily available, so pedestrian. But studies do show their importance!
My son has been fighting a case of this, tested positive, so I suggested he do these supplements. He is. We just lost a friend to complications from this bug, and i have no idea if his family or doctors did any of these things. I mentioned this consideration to them as his case worsened, and they said, "Oh, the doctors are taking care of him". Well, I'm sure that's true, within "reasonable and customary".
Others I've known that have this bug have done nothing extra. Doctors just send them home, tell them to ride it out.
Do more than just Wear Your Mask.

My daughter-in-law had the virus and was treated with z-pack and zinc then back to work in two weeks time. The strange thing is she lived in their house with two sons and my son (her husband) and all tested negative and never caught it.
It could have been blood type had something to do with it.

Strongly agree with OP and several others: the headline's claim that Vitamin D3 won't help was very misleading. Anyone who knows the least bit about
Vit D3, knows that it takes a long time before regular supplementation measurably improves a Vit D3 deficient condition. It could be months. That's why you have to start now, seniors, and don't quit.
Here's Zelenko's preventative protocol: Zinc 25mg (up to 50mg if you have serious absorption problems, but don't go over 50) ; Quercetin 500mg (nice if it comes with bromelain, that aids absorption); Vit C 1000mg; Vit D3 10,000IU if you are deficient. If you're not deficient, you should still take 10,000IU per week to keep it topped off.
Drinking green tea, which is high in EGCG, also really boosts absorption.
All relatively cheap, all OTC and you can even get them online from Walmart, Amazon and many others.
Keep up with the Zelenko preventative plan and infections/hospitalizations/deaths should be reduced 80-90% or even better.
These will also protect you form many other non-Covid infections.
We don't need any of the #&^%$#% vaccines.

Headline is a bit misleading Extra Vitamin D doesn't help much If You Are Already Sick. Other studies indicate that having sufficient Vitamin D can help ward off the sickness.
