It looks like New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Thanksgiving restrictions are already dead in the water. A number of sheriffs declared that they would not be enforcing the governor’s private gathering limit on the holiday. Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino published a Facebook post on Saturday indicating his refusal to enforce the 10-person cap on gatherings and parties in private residences. “Frankly, I am not sure it could sustain a Constitutional challenge in Court for several reasons including your house is your castle,” he wrote. “And as a Sheriff with a law degree I couldn’t in good faith attempt to defend it Court, so I won’t.”

Looks like the Butcher of NY will have to do it himself.
Can see him now banging on people's doors demanding to know how many are there!
Then watch an Italian Mama slap him across the face:)

The gov'nor obviously doesn't think cops enjoy Thanksgiving like everybody else. He's a fool.

A few years ago, a Ukrainian engineer that I had worked on a project with in her country visited the USA with her family. We spent three weeks together, traveled all over the western states and had a wonderful visit. Over time a lot of questions were asked about how the USA "works". One of their real surprises was when I was asked about our police. I explained that there were many different kinds of police. City police, county sheriffs and state police, plus the FBI and US Marshals. All was pretty much what they expected, and for each kind of police they asked "who do they work for?". The city police work for the mayor, and I explained that the county sheriff was unique in that he ONLY reported to the voters in the county. They said, "He does not work for the leader of the oblast (state) or the President?" When I explained that he had no responsibility to do what the mayor, the governor or the President said they were surprised and re-asked in several different ways, thinking that there HAD TO be some miscommunication.
It was the first time I really spent any time reflecting on the unique situation where county sheriffs are THE PEOPLE'S police. How cool is THAT!?
Go county sheriffs! Big middle finger to Cuomo the Stupid.

What a thoughtful statement from that sheriff. I wish more elected officials had his good sense, and understanding of the law. We’ll probably have 25 people for Thanksgiving. If a cop knocks on the door, I’ll give him a piece of pie, thank him for his service, and politely ask him to remove himself from my property.

We have the same caliber of sheriff in our little county. Fortunate indeed.

I suppose if he wanted to be a total ass he could send the State Police to enforce his edict

Six are allowed at Thanksgiving, but thirty for a funeral. We are having a funeral for my cousin's pet turkey that will pass away next week...refreshments provided.

Similar to #4's story, I was on the phone with tech support about my computer. The girl had an accent similar to India. We were chatting about videos she had seen of porch pirates in the US. I told here in my area such people could be met with gunfire from the neighbors, so we didnt get many pirates. She was shocked. Asked if I owned any guns. Yes, several. And I carry everywhere. She said it might be ok as long as people are licensed and regulated. I said no, we are a free state. No license needed. Then she said it would be scary because if people get angry they might shoot each other. I told her no, we have a greater sense of responsibility than that. Then she wanted to know where we practice. I told her there are a few public ranges, or we might just ask a farmer if we can shoot on his farm. She thought we would be shooting his cows. Foreigners just dont get us.

#10, I was armed at all times on our trip, and around here, and the Ukranians were aware of it, but we didn't talk about it much. I took the husband and wife to the range and they both shot very well with my .22 pistol, loved shooting coke cans in our back yard.
