The Rays eked out a dramatic 8-7 walk-off win over the Dodgers in Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday night to tie the best-of-seven Fall Classic at 2-2 (box score). Reserve outfielder Brett Phillips notched a game-tying single in the ninth off Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen, and Randy Arozarena was also able to score on an error by center fielder Chris Taylor and then a mishandled throw by L.A. catcher Will Smith.
It had already been a wild game before one of the wildest culminations to a World Series game in living memory came along. Here's a look at the final play:

Perhaps it’s just me but I didn’t know the World Series had started or even who was playing in it - I used to keep track of this stuff but I just don’t anymore......

Me too OP!
It's why we love baseball.
I hadn't been following the games assiduously, but you can be sure I'll watch the next one!

It was nice to see Cookie Lavagetto's come up name again. One of the great baseball monikers.

If I hate the Dodgers too much, will that cause them to win?

I hadn't really been following baseball at all this year thanks to covid. Didn't even watch a Cubs game. Everything during the shortened regular season was live-stream and I wasn't willing to fork over money for it.

I don't know who any of these players are and am proud of that lack of wasteful use of my memory. I enjoy American sports and soccer by playing them in the field with friends or family but I don't care to watch arrogant professionals getting paid huge money to play, especially those who disrespect my flag.

I'm with you OP. I've been to the Trop many times cheering on the Rays and have watched hundreds of their games on TV. The game last night was areal nail-biter and the good guys won in a way you'll probably NEVER see again. Scared my wife when I jumped up and yelled.
btw, when the season started and teams were doing their sickening kneeling to the blm THUGS, only TWO Rays people knelt...the first base coach and the third base coach. Everyone else remained standing for the anthem. Good on ya, Rays. WIN THE WORLD SERIES!!!!

I've seen only one complete major league baseball game in person. It was the Tampa Bay (then Devil) Rays against the Chicago White Socks in Chicago. I enjoyed it. Good people, a huge jumbotron, and many rituals both strange and fun for an adopted American. I honestly don't remember who won. I do remember a good day.
I'm not much for sports in general, but in honor of that day, memories of my home state of Florida, and OP, I will adopt and support the 'Rays from here on out.
GTMI!

#4 caused coffee spew. Tanks a lot.
At the World Series venue in Dallas and on players uniforms I did not notice any preachy slogans or acronyms to distract fans from the action on the diamond, which has been quite entertaining so far in the first four games. The Rays were literally one strike from facing an elimination game, and suddenly they were all square at two games to two, needing to win two of the next three to take home the title. In the moments after the crazy celebration in the outfield, centerfielder Kevin Keirmaier asked, "What just happened?" Indeed.
The Dodgers are very good. For our Rays to beat them, we'd like to see another couple of signs from heaven. As a professional golfer (no longer able to play because of three spinal fusion operations since 2018), I either experienced or witnessed what some would call the miraculous deliverances from seemingly impossible situations. That's the kind of thing that happens when you're going to win. Skill and luck are frequently found in the same place. Whatever else, The World Series is a welcome distraction from political commercials (Biden's) that are utterly insulting end to end lies, and sometimes cause me to take the Lord's name in vain, and have to repent for same.
Pray, LDotters! Keep America America.

Proud to say I haven't watched one inning! I did glance at the video in the article and wondered how such well-paid athletes can care more about BLM than the country that makes them so wealthy. Also, they suck. That's the play of WS champions?!? They really stink.

I love baseball and live in the Tampa Bay area, but I'm also put out with the political shenanigans of the MBA. What to do, what to do? Go Rays!

I agree with #3 that Cookie Lavagetto is an excellent name, although not as good as Canaan Banana.

I had no idea the World Series was taking place. Once I dropped cable and don’t watch regular news, I now live in a sports free world and have never looked back.

#18, off topic, but I'm hoping you've read Mark Steynes brilliant obituary for Mr Banana. If not, it's available here:

*Dayn Perry & Mike Axisa Here is momentary relief from political blahs: baseball (as Capone would say). The Rays are showing signs of being destiny's team in this truncated season. A win's a win. This one was fun. I love baseball.
