National Grid is being forced to search for emergency power sources due to a recent lack of wind—just a week after Boris Johnson said wind farms would power every home in the UK within a decade. The utility company, which is responsible for ensuring supply and demand are balanced in Britain's energy systems, said electricity supply margins were likely to be tight in the country over the next few days.(Snip) The UK already boasts the world's biggest offshore wind market, but Mr Johnson has outlined plans to expand that even further, wanting to create 60,000 jobs and build thousands of coastal turbines.

Wind and solar are hopelessly undependable, ridiculously expensive and will guarantee "freezing in the dark".
Coal, gas, oil and nuclear are the ONLY sane choices.

I hope Gavin is taking notes and watching closely!
I spent the weekend in Paradise, CA ( actually in Chico) with friends this weekend and met a few families who lost everything in that fire, including dear friends and loved ones.
We need to start putting people first over "the environment." Conservation yes, craziness, no!

Perhaps (please note the proper English word) they could buy some power from California. I hear California has some excess energy being burned off and don't quite know what to do with it.

Boris Johnson's ideological streak reeks of "greater good" madness that often leads to the worst option.

How many millions of birds are these "green" monstrosities killing each year? Plenty. But we're not allowed to notice.

The trouble with wind power is the wind. ...It's not reliable. ...Plus the windmills still use oil to lubricate. ...Plus they kill birds. ...Plus they are ugly and ruin America's natural beauty.

Boris gives away the game in his comment.
"...get their juice cleanly and without guilt".
This whole scam is a giant. fraudulent guilt trip, and Boris is buying into the complete carbon BS.

I'll be dipped. So the Brits just discovered that the wind doesn't blow all of the time? The American lefties might want to get a hold of them and find out more and perhaps come to discover that coal, methane, and nuclear power are the way to go for servicing the base load.

Boris is sounding like the morning after one of his fraternity parties. The British have got to learn to make their own decisions, instead of letting fools make the decision for everyone.

Even if they were clear I would hate those disgusting things. The wop-wop-wop also drives people nearby bat-guano crazy after a while too. They fall over, explode, catch fire after lightning strikes, or require so much expensive aerial maintenance that they're no cheaper than gas-fired power plants. Just because we "could" doesn't mean we should have EVER put those monstrosities up across our fruited plains.

I have a hard time understanding why no wind is such a problem. Can't they just mount a small jet engine in front of the wind turbine to keep the blades turning. People make such a mountain out of such a little ant mound.
Plus, the windmills keep planes safe by killing birds before they have a chance to fly into a plane. I say this would just be fair play.
Am I a genius, or what?

What has Joey the pervert have to say? What about AOC and her cabal? Will they get special power by taxpayer money? The answer is probably yes since they're all so special.

#19, you said "they're no cheaper than gas fired power plants..."
Actually, even with "free fuel" the cost of wind power is about triple the cost of coal or gas fired power plants. Difficult to get an accurate price because there are so many different subsidies and tax breaks that the true, free market cost is heavily obscured.....as intended.
