I Didn’t Vote For Trump In 2016,
But I’d Crawl Over Broken
Glass To Vote For Him Now

Even though I had voted for every Republican presidential candidate since 1980, I didn’t vote for Donald Trump in 2016. Many Republican nominees had been huge disappointments to me, and I wasn’t going to vote for yet another GOP candidate I thought would betray my trust. I couldn’t imagine Trump as a genuine conservative who would champion limited government, respect individual freedom and liberty, and protect the unborn — but was I ever wrong. Although I didn’t vote for Trump in 2016, I would crawl over broken glass to vote for him in 2020. In 2016, I was convinced Trump was just another New York liberal. On election night, however, I smiled.

All my life every candidate has either been a swamp creature or under the control of other swamp creatures. Reagan may have been an exception, but he's the only one. Worse if they get elected. Nixon was a crook, Ford was a running joke. Bush 41 outlawed more guns with one signature than any president in history. Bush 43 erased the bill of rights with his patriot act and setting up the intelligence community to be further weaponized. He had no constraints on spending whatsoever and used a plunger to ram us down the fiscal drain. Both Bushes continued the US policy of endless, pointless expensive wars that enrich only the defense industry. Now we have president Trump, who is not easily fooled or bullied. The swamp cant stand having a good American at the helm. The one big disappointment is no indictments yet. Otherwise hes doing fine.

I was pulling for Cruz in the primary and was somewhat disappointed when Trump won. I had nothing against him but Cruz had a solid conservative reputation and Trump was unknown to me and I had no idea of his agenda or his ability in the political arena. However the choice between him and the alternative was clear so I did vote for him and I have already voted for him again in this election. If Trump loses, our country is lost.

I'm with #9, as usual. The writer did not vote for Trump in 2016, so he either didn't vote, voted Clinton (Really?), or voted 3rd party. You couldn't have kept me away from the polls to vote against Hellary! As to #4's comment about the quality of some of the Pubbies recent nominees...same answer. I may not have voted 'For' many of the candidates, but I sure as He!! voted enthusiastically against McGovern, Carter (2), Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton (2), Gore, Kerry, Barry the Fraud (2), and the criminal Clinton. Not voting is the same as voting Dem.

I had the same concerns about Trump's conservatism but cannot understand how someone could withhold a vote from a Republican candidate who might not be everything they might wish and indirectly support Crooked Hillary and an extension of the corrupt BO administration. It's great that Sound got woke. It's unfathomable how Never Trumpers who claim to be conservative could hate Trump so much and support Biden. The reality is, they never really were conservatives. They were Republican Deep Staters, dominating the "little people".

Trump was unproven at the time and I was a bit uncertain about casting my vote for him but he weathered the storm to win the nomination. There was no way I wasn't going to vote and the option to vote for Clinton wasn't going to be. When someone admits they didn't vote for Trump in 2016 did they cast a vote for Clinton? Trump had my vote when he was nominated and I just voted again for him yesterday standing in line with a hurting knee replacement and sore back I physically voted for him again.

I was only vaguely aware who Trump was, some NYC real estate guy, in 2015. I had heard of "The Apprentice", via a few TV commercials, but never watched it, and had no idea that Trump was on it. I started from darned near zero when he announced his candidacy. I listened to what he said, initially thinking that he was probably way out there like the hedge fund environut, Tom Steyer. But as I listened to WHAT Trump said, and I was really intrigued. But I read that he had been a Democrat for most of his life, so that put me way off. But the more I saw him speak at his rallies, with strong words for saving the country, closing the border and a clear, sensible command of the issues, I was impressed. My guy at that point was Ted Cruz, and I voted for Cruz in the primary, which Cruz won in Kansas. But soon, Cruz faded and Trump was showing himself to be the real deal. I got on board the Trump Train and never looked back. It was the right thing to do, and Trump has proven to be pretty much the best president of my lifetime, even with all the horror show antics from the insane Dems slowing him down. There is nothing that will stop me from voting in person for this President.

My choices were Hillary!!! the most corrupt woman on planet Earth since Imelda Marcos (google it mills) or Trump because Paris Hilton had something better to do. I am now a citizen and will vote in person for Donald Trump and on down the line with a few exceptions. He keeps his campaign promises as best he can in spite of the yapping dog and biting dog) Democrats. Paging Jonah Goldberg, Rich Lowry, and every other "Never Trump" from 2016: If you're still in public life selling your conservatism for a living, it's long past time to declare yourselves. We already know Kristol, Boot, and Will are forever "Never Trump". And Jennifer Rubin, Nicole Wallace, and the rest of the "never were's" were working against real conservatism long before Trump came on the scene. But now's your chance: At this point, I'll take any votes and voices I can get for President Trump. No apologies necessary at this point. Just get off your well-cushioned Beltway Butts, get on any outlet that will still have you at this point, and simply explain that you oppose electing a literally-demented Democrat so that he can die in office and hand our country over to a radical Left, riot-cheerleading racist. This is all I ask of you at this point; that's all you have to do. Now do it.

Seven people, all from different households, not only gathered for Thanksgiving but distributed to the media pictorial evidence of them flouting mask mandates and social distancing edicts. No governor yet claims jurisdiction over the International Space Station but the astronauts have a lot of explaining to do when they return to earth. It’s not as though they lacked for space. Governors ordering around people 250 miles above their states seems far-fetched. But so, too, did the notion of governors usurping the role of legislatures. Eight months after the initial coronavirus lockdowns, citizens docilely accept the idea of a single person dictating the laws that govern millions of people.

Will Joe Biden and his foreign-policy team accept the extraordinary gift Team Trump is leaving for them under the Christmas tree — or is their hatred for the president so all-consuming that they will toss it in the garbage? Normalization has proceeded so quickly, Dubai already has a kosher restaurant, and its supermarkets are stocking Israeli agricultural products festooned with Stars of David — a science-fictional sight only a year ago.

The practice of democracy in our constitutional republic flourishes in the presence of contradictions. Democracy, itself, is bound by our inalienable rights, bestowed to us by our Creator. These rights, not given to us by our government by any majority or by any vote, cannot be rescinded, for they were not wrought by man. Voting is a contradiction for it is both public and private at the same time. Its process is intended to be secret, but transparent. Its agency is intensely partisan, but its effect is intended to be unifying. The legitimacy of voting must survive despite the contradictions intrinsic to the process.

Will Judge Emmett Sullivan accept President Trump’s pardon of General Michael Flynn? No one has suggested that possibility, other than The New York Sun. The general’s case, though, has become a bonfire of the vanities of one district judge who has denied the presumption of regularity to an official act of the United States government — meaning Attorney General William Barr’s attempt to drop the case. So why would Judge Sullivan credit President Trump’s workaround of a pardon? We understand, the pardon could be the least fettered of all the powers that the Constitution grants to the president.

Many conservatives have moved their social-media accounts to the more freewheeling Parler, and often have slammed the supposedly monopolistic Facebook and Twitter as they’ve decamped from those sites. I have chuckled at some of their overheated parting rhetoric — especially the widespread misunderstanding about the meaning of the word “monopoly.” A monopoly is, as the Oxford dictionary explains, “the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service.” Quite obviously, if one stops doing business with a company and heads over to its competitor, then the previous company is not by definition in exclusive possession or control of a service.
