Fox News anchor Chris Wallace expressed regret on Wednesday after the chaotic nature of the presidential debate he moderated on Tuesday was met with fierce criticism.“I’m just sad with the way last night turned out,” Wallace said in a phone interview with The New York Times about the first square-off between President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden. He further characterized the tense 90-minute back-and-forth as “a terrible missed opportunity.”Explaining how he “never never dreamt that it would go off the tracks the way it did,” Wallace also addressed the widespread criticism of his moderating.

Chris Wallace is "just sad". Is this a "need to know"? Is he maybe "just sad" that his so-called professional antics did not achieve the desired and planned result? Isn't Biden president yet?

“Sad?”
Sorry but I can’t imagine Walter Cronkite or even paterfamilias Mike Wallace uttering for public consumption such a puerile sentiment.
Keep it to yourself, and even then it’s pathetic to imagine.
“Sad”?
...Nonplussed, unimpressed, disappointed in your own performance, fine, that level of introspection is appropriate, but “sad,” in the old, “more in sorrow than in anger,” is for clergymen and social workers, not newsmen.
Ring Lardner, Mike Royko, Jimmy Breslin, John Chancellor, Jim Lehrer “...I’m sad”?
No.

Not to worry Chris, we really didn't expect much from you and we got what we thought we would. Fortunately we have a President who is not going to let you do a "Candy Crowley" on him. The amazing thing is that you would give an interview to the Times confirming your bias. You really are an embarrassment to what is left of the journalism profession and that is saying something. To pretend you were trying to maintain an unbiased interview is beyond ridiculous,

When every question is teed up and wrapped in a bow for Joe Biden, and you work with Biden and laugh with Biden, you might be a partisan hack. I hate the guy, but I must say he surprised me with his level of flashing neon bias.

"never never dreamt that it would go off the tracks the way it did"
Translation, Wallace planned to control Trump in favor of Biden and Trump blew through Wallace like he wasn't even there. He forced Biden to treat Wallace the same way. The media, in the persona of Wallace, was minimized and useless.

This Article is nothing but Crap.
And Mike Wallace is a Total P.O.S.
In the Moments I have until I can change channels or hit the Mute Button, that Self-Admiring Wallace just Talks all over People he is supposedly interviewing. He is a Leftist Democrat that seeks to do nothing but promote himself. The President did the Right Thing by calling him out for what he is.

He wouldn't have fit in America today and neither do you. You are a sanctimonious prig. Rules for the and not for me is your catch phrase.

"Sad. Missed opportunity." That's a bunch a bunch of malarkey. Wallace asked Trump contentious questions from the get go. Then Wallace kept interrupting and badgering Trump when he didn't like Trump's answers. Wallace used the debate as his opportunity to attack POTUS Trump. Wallace is a leftist jerk. The tiny violin 🎻 is playing just for you, Chris Wallace.

First, I saw a report on Gateway Pundit last night indicating Biden had the questions. I noticed one in particular where he jumped to answer it (rehearsed). Second, Wallace has to answer for the number of times he interrupted President Trump (72) versus Biden (15). Plus his questions to the President were of the "how many times did you beat your wife..." while those to Biden were adoring. Chris Wallace was national embarrassment Tuesday night and should be fired by Fox and should never, ever come within a mile of a Presidential debate.

Trump took control of thedebate, pure and simple. This is called, "winning". Wallace tried to interfere and protect Biden and got knocked silly. Punch-drunk, I think its called. He failed in most ways to protect Biden.
This is called "losing".
The only critics and expert Wallace is quoting are the left wing hacks like him. Notice he went to the friendly, NYT, for his musings? Wallace should retire or be fired. If he had asked the hard questions of Biden and kept both debater's feet to the fire, honestly, we would have seen the truth, and Trump's interruptions would have ceased. But Trump knew from the outset that Wallace was only going to ask the equivalent of, "How are you feeling, Mr. Biden, sir?" and "You feel that Orange Man, Bad is SOOOO mean?"
Wallace is not a journalist.

Chris Wallace is a sneaky SOB. He claims to be impartial, but he just had to get Kenosha and white supremacy into the conversation in the hopes of tripping up Trump, who by way, is a helluva lot smarter than Wallace. I think the next moderator should be Sean Hannity.

I am so done with Fox news for several years now. They have sold out to their advertisers (Elites) who really don't care about the truth or the average person. The pundits are fine, but I can't listen to a solid stream of screaming and yelling. I'm done. Drudge too!

Wallace should be sorry, not sad. He is responsible for the way the debate went by not stopping Biden from interrupting from the beginning, by not asking loaded questions with false premises and by not shutting up himself and letting Trump answer. Trump was not the first to interrupt and certainly not the last.

Come on, man. You’re just “sad” because Trump refused to lie down and allow you to run roughshod over him. You’re “sad” that you couldn’t keep Joe from exhibiting obvious symptoms of advancing Alzheimer’s. You’re “sad” because you wanted to be able to hand an out-and-out victory to your party, instead of a spun propaganda point. Well, my friend, you’re not nearly as “sad” as the country is over your charade as a debate moderator.

Caillou is sad. He thought that everyone would be on their feet, applauding his performance as moderator. But they are not applauding. So Caillou is sad today. Instead of calling him "brilliant," people are calling him "asshat," and worse. Poor Caillou.
It's okay to be sad, Caillou. Here is a blankey you can whine into. Whine into the blankey, Caillou.
Now you will feel better.

Two thoughts regarding moderators for Presidential debates.
- There is more opportunity for the moderator to look bad than to look good. Some journalists have had their careers destroyed over how they conducted themselves during a debate (Candi Crowley). Is it even worth it to a journalist to volunteer for a debate? Have to wonder if journalists will refuse to volunteer.
- Seriously, consider replacing the moderator with a computer program that asks questions and controls the microphones. Program turns on the microphones, asks a question, lets the candidates hash things, gives a one minute warning when that conversation is about to end, and then turns off the microphones for 30 seconds. Repeat for each question. A computer program does not argue, and the candidates cannot argue with the inanimate.

Please Chris........just please. If you are "just sad" as you say be aware that YOU are the one responsible for these feelings. You brought it on yourself.
You could have been an honest, non partisan moderator that perhaps would have garnered you better reviews in all the postmortems about the debate. You however chose to be a lackey for the Biden campaign. Gee Chris, you were nothing more than Joe's designated nursemaid for the evening.
I doubt you will lose your program over the way you moderated the debate but you do deserve to be strongly reprimanded by Fox. In the early days of Fox I would expect that to happen. Now I'm not so sure. I guess it depends how many viewers you lose. Let's watch the ratings for a few weeks.

At the so-called debate Chris Wallace functioned less as a moderator than as a participant, like Leslie Nielsen's stint as Major League umpire in Naked Gun. Chris's donkey ears practically sprouted. We already knew about that, but why did he have to make his pro-Democrat bias so obvious? The MSM is nakedly left-biased, even a faction of them are at Fox News. No one with any sense believes what the MSM report anymore. Good citizens can be lied to only so many times before their disgust hardens to diamond, and they tune out permanently.

Chris Wallace is sad because he wet himself in the presence of President Trump when he thought he would take the Orange Man down. Mission failed for you Chris Wallace and your extreme bias was on display. In the future no Republican should subject themselves to an interview with the little crapweasel. Chris Wallace was interviewing for a spot at CNN.

Boo Hoo....I cry. There! Nah just joking I laughed all the way thru the debate. Where I come from debates are arguments. If you're lucky they're reasonably polite arguments but arguments just the same. Trump was fighting against both the Democrats and the supposed moderator. He let us see that he was not willing to just surrender to the obvious and let them walk all over him. Good For Him. That's why in spite of all the character flaws, and we see them, he's our guy.

To add to snapper 451's (Reply #17) comments:
Wallace asked Trump a question about Trump's Global Warming Policy. That topic was not in the agreed upon agenda and out of line. Nevertheless, Trump responded, and Wallace proceeded to question and challenge Trump--as a DEBATER. Wallace not only crossed, but obliterated the line.
And then, at the close of the debate, Wallace demanded that Trump commit to accept the election results and tell the rightwing groups to settle down. That was wrong on so many levels. Who does Wallace think he is to give orders to the President? And the President certainly cannot agree to accept the results of the election until he sees how it was conducted. Finally, any 'rightwing" or "white supremacist" groups don't take orders or follow Trump, and they haven't been the ones rioting, looting, and burning.
Wallace is an utter JERK
