A furloughed photojournalist set out to document the protests in late May in response to the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer. After the widespread rioting and looting began, he infiltrated groups of individuals who were engaging in violence. He expected to find that white supremacists were responsible for the mayhem.
Instead, he discovered something different.
The New York Times’ Farah Stockman penned a column last Wednesday about the experience of Jeremy Lee Quinn, who started photographing a Black Lives Matter protest in Santa Monica, California, on May 31.

Rochester, N.Y. mayor Lovely Warren has been indicted on charges she broke campaign finance rules and committed fraud during her 2017 reelection campaign, the Monroe County District Attorney announced Friday.
One charge is for a scheme to defraud in the first degree, while another is an election law offense for illegally coordinating activities and expenditures, the Democrat and Chronicle reported.
The Democrat’s campaign treasurer, Albert Jones Jr., and the treasurer of her political action committee, Rosalind Brooks-Harris, face charges as well, district attorney Sandra Doorley said.

President Trump thanked Americans for their “tremendous support” and said he is “doing very well” in a pre-recorded video he tweeted out Friday as he was being flown by Marine One to Walter Reed Military Medical Center where he will be treated for mild symptoms after testing positive for the COVID-19. The president's message was upbeat, though his tone was more subdued than usual in the video, which is believed to have been shot just before he was transferred to Walter Reed “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the White House. “I want to thank everybody for the tremendous support,” Trump said.

President Trump appreciates the outpouring of support for both he and the First Lady.”

Disney chairman Bob Iger quit California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s coronavirus recovery task force just two days after the Mouse House said it was cutting 28,000 jobs at its US parks business.
A Disney rep wouldn’t say why or exactly when Iger resigned from the task force, which was formed in April, according to the Sacramento Bee, which first reported the news late Thursday.
Disney didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.
The news comes as Newsom is preparing to release guidance on theme parks reopening on Friday, despite mixed reactions from the industry.

Two “doomsday plane” flights overnight off both U.S. coasts were preplanned and not tied to President Trump’s positive coronavirus test, military officials said Friday as they tamped down speculation that America was sending a warning to its enemies at a time of crisis.
Social media erupted early Friday after images seemed to show that the military had dispatched two Boeing E-6B Mercury planes around the time Mr. Trump revealed his diagnosis on Twitter. The E-6B planes can convey instructions to nuclear-armed submarines, earning the aircraft their ominous nickname and making them a key piece of U.S. defenses in the event of a catastrophe.

Amazon and other online retailers are pulling merchandise from their sites emblazoned with the words "stand back" and "stand by" and displaying the insignia of the Proud Boys, a far-right extremist group.
Shirts bearing the words cropped up for sale after President Trump uttered the phrase on Tuesday night, referring to the white supremacist group, during his debate with Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
Individuals associated with the Proud Boys online took Mr. Trump's directive as words of encouragement, and products displaying the phrase quickly made their way onto sites including Amazon and Teespring

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has enough support from Latino voters to win Texas, but Joe Biden could pull off an upset if he wins two-thirds of the Latino vote in the state — something Hillary Clinton came close to doing in 2016 — a new analysis finds. The analysis, by the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation, says Trump currently holds enough support from Latino voters, 41 percent, to stave off a loss in the state. On the other hand, a poll released this week found otherwise, showing Biden with 66 percent of the Latino vote. “A surge in Hispanic support for Biden could turn the state blue,”
