An ex-convict pleaded not guilty Wednesday to attempted murder and other charges in connection with the ambush shooting of two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies earlier this month in Compton. Deonte Lee Murray, 36, pleaded not guilty to two counts each of attempted murder of a peace officer and possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with the Sept. 12 attack on the deputies, (Snip) He was previously charged Sept. 17 with one felony count each of carjacking, second-degree robbery and assault with a semi-automatic firearm involving a Sept. 1 carjacking in Compton, in which he allegedly shot a man in the leg with a high-powered rifle and

Much more here, including the bit where useless Sheriff Villanueva stated he believed there was no connection between the carjacking and the shooting of the deputies. The Sheriff was some time ago removed as head of the County’s Emergency Response Department. He should be gone, ASAP.
The ex-con perp was a member of several gangs and had a long rap sheet, including assaults, drug offenses, terrorism. His arrest was not an easy one… It’s all in this article.

And more here. This guy now wants to be moved as he says he’s being mistreated. Denied.

fta: "He's being harassed night and day," Keenan said. "It's like you're being housed by the victim's family."
Well gee, maybe he should have thought that through before he shot the cops? Who did he think would be jailing him once he was caught.
Letting the victims have at a slimy perp is how they did things in the old days, still do in places like Bolivia.

Yeah, it sounds like the Sheriff is pretty worthless. Glad that they caught this piece of garbage. Hope he stays in prison forever.

#4, I read that both had been released from the hospital and were expected to make full recoveries, thank God for that, and some thanks to incompetence on the part of the shooter.

I had an officer friend shot in the head in a traffic stop. I talked to him about it some time later, he was fine after the fixed him up and it healed. Upwards from the shooter in the car, damaged his jaw and teeth and ricocheted outward at about the cheekbone level, never entered the brain case. Apparently these officers' wounds were somewhat similar, in non-vital areas, no eye or brain involvement, miraculously.
There is a lot in the head that isn't as instantly deadly as we tend to think, thank goodness.

Here is a question for the anti Second Amendment governor of California Gavin Nuisance. What gun law could you and your Gestapo legislature have enacted to prevent this ruthless felon from obtaining the firearm he used during his attempted assassination of the two deputy sheriff's? Thank God the deputies survived and will recover!

Great, Except now we get to provide him with room, board, and medical treatments for most of his life. With his record, he should be taken out to a firing squad.

If the perp is black they rarely include mugshots these days.

Unless it is an optical illusion, the video of the shooting shows a person of extremely short stature. If so, I question why it took them so long to find an ≈ 4’ tall felon.

Tweet with photo of the perp and comment that he is “built like a pygmy”… Deonte is a dwarf. That explains the observation by many of us that the shooter looked and ran like a kid, and had to shoot upward through the police car window. (h/t Ad Rem at CTH)

Re #13, he had been arrested for a carjacking that occurred before the deputy shooting. He was in jail. That is where they finally (!) figured out that he was the deputy shooter as well and he was arrested for that. Sheriff Villanueva is a dunce who decided that there was no relationship between the carjacking and the deputy shooting.

We have been told that both deputies face long recoveries. The female deputy was shot in her lower jaw. Trauma surgeons consider that to be very serious due to the complexity of the wounds and the potential for infection and other complications. They don’t consider it to be a minor wound. There are often permanent disabilities as to jaw function. And significant scarring. She is said to be unable to speak and has to write her “conversation”.
Less has been said about her male partner.

Had carjacked a man’s Mercedes, shot him in the leg, then later used the Mercedes as his getaway car when he shot the sheriff’s deputies. You have to read this guy’s convoluted story…. When he was finally arrested re the deputies, he was already in jail on the carjacking and assault charges. Or that’s what I thought I read. Some story. Mr. Compton of 2020.
