President Donald Trump's announced Saturday night that the Supreme Court nominee he plans to announce next week to fill the vacancy left by Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be a woman, spotlighting two conservative women as his potential pick. During a campaign rally in North Carolina, Trump declared 'I will be putting forth a nominee this week, it will be a woman', later adding his pick would be a 'very talented, very brilliant woman'. As he left the White House for the rally, the president identified two women as front runners: Amy Coney Barrett, 48, of the Chicago-based 7th Circuit and Barbara Lagoa, 52, of the Atlanta-based 11th Circuit

It's obvious from the article's content devoted to Amy's Christian sub-group, that the Daily Mail's 2-fold mission is to destroy Amy and to supply ammo to her detractors. I guess that's a good thing - that they feel so threatened.

So she’s a religious whack nut!! Gee thanks media for the insight lol. I’ve never heard of people praise but what they describe seems like a mentor. A handmaiden seems like someone who is a helper. Two different things but we all know the game that’s being played here.

So this is where the left is going to go after Amy Coney Barrett. If she is nominated wait and see people dressed in those red costumes from the Handmaiden’s Tale protesting outside Congress. It’s unclear how they will attack Barbara Lagoa, but you can be sure, they will. Democrats will bare their teeth and seek to do as much damage as possible because it is who they are. The party has become thoroughly despicable and totally unfit to serve in government.

I'm a Catholic and I hate the Handmaiden's Tale - book and movie both. When I read it, my first thought were "I don't like anyone in this story" and "this is very like Islamic society, not Christian". I wonder if President Trump has a surprise up his sleeve? No matter what, I want his pick to be approved and quickly.

They certainly won't be able to give Amy the "Kavenaugh" treatment. What does it say about a political party that opposition to murdering babies is a problem? The democrats hate Christians too, which is not going to go over well with most Americans--although you're right, they will try to portray her as a zealot. Good luck with that Dems, you're circling the drain as it is.

I like both of these candidates, but the one that is the most strategic in terms of this election is Barbara Lagoa. Why? Nobody understands communism like someone whose family suffered under it and managed to escape from it. And nobody understands the United States of America, its fairness and its greatness, like the child of that family who succeeded there and fulfilled the dreams of those parents.
I know because I'm one of them. And nothing those communists can do can scare us here. Nothing.

I can’t get beyond the headline due to the ignorance of the writer. The Catholic Church is NOT a sect. It is the original Christian Church. All of the other variations of Christianity broke away from the Catholic Church so they are, in fact, the “sects”.
Plus, the bad guys in The Handmaid’s Tale were not Catholics; they were fundamentalists more like the type who do snake handling and tent revivals. The book was published around 1986, before we were acquainted with burkas but the idea of covering every inch of the body certainly reeks of Islam as #7 states.
When I read the book, I had just returned from 3 years behind the Iron Curtain and as I was reading it, it struck me as being very much like Romania under the Ceausescu's, where there was a soldier with a machine gun on every street corner and where teenaged girls were told to have babies for the state - remember all those orphans in cages you saw on the news after the walls came down? And then, at the end of the book there is a conference where 1980’s Romania is part of the subject matter.
BTW, I have seen a couple of episodes of the Handmaid series on television and Atwood has a hand in writing the screen plays. She has become much more radical since the 80’s and it shows in the changes to the stories.

Mitch, we will not tolerate the usual "count your votes and never risk failure".
Just pick one, vote, if you lose, pick the other one and vote.
There should be no thought of whether one of the weak sisters might lose their position when they reveal who they really are.
If you can't count on them, there might as well be a democrat there. Ohhhh, I forgot, that is how you maintain your status as majority leader.

Judge Barrett and Judge Lagoa both would bring considerable stature to the SCOTUS. Their law school backgrounds are absent the liberal bias of the ivy league schools. Unlike Chief Justice John Roberts. A Barrett nomination will definitely push the secular left over the top. A Pierre Delecto may hesitate toward supporting Barrett, him being the "we Mormons are the chosen ones not her and her sect". However, as a top rate JD, Barrett would be a terrific choice for the SCOTUS. Good for her and us if she is confirmed.
But, then there is Judge Lagoa. What a fine background. Not sure yet how the left would pile on her and try to destroy her. But, one thing is for sure IMO. A Lagoa nomination and confirmation would lock up the hispanic vote not only for the President, but, for a good number of other pubbies whose Senate and House races are up for grabs. Even Pierre Delecto, Murko, and Collins would seem ok with her. It would be totally brilliant for the President to nominate her and the Senate confirms her.
So Mr. President, where to from here?

Im for the Cuban who understands what communism does to a civilization. I feel someone like that would fight for our Constitution. From comments made on Parler, I have serious doubts about Barrett. The adoptions of children from Haiti are immediately suspect - not because of the children but because of the corruption that was often involved down there. On top of that observations were made that she is open borders and sides more with the Democrats on other issues apart from abortion. Once again, a single issue person is not a good choice. You want someone who loves America and her Constitution? Choose someone who HOLISTICALLY loves it. Im anti-abortion, but its not the Savior issue that so many people make it out to be.

The conservative Christian group called People of Praise is part of the Roman Catholic Church. The term 'handmaid' was a reference to Jesus's mother Mary describing herself as a 'handmaid of the Lord.' Except for the use of the word 'handmaid,' there is nothing in common between People of Praise and the 'Handmaid's Tale' story. They are as far apart as God and Satan.

The criticism of Coney Barrett is likely to be intense, and not just from the Senate dems. The left, especially the pro-abortion left, would mount HUGE demonstrations with this "Handmaid's Tale" thing, perhaps enough to scare even moderates.
The criticism of Logoa is likely to be that she's only been a judge for a couple of years--a year on the 11th Circuit and a year on the Florida Supreme Court. The criticism will be that her lack of experience does not equip her for a position as crucial as SCOTUS. It also gives the Senate little to go on with respect to her judicial judgment.

To those who haven’t read anything but the headline and the intro, the Catholic church is not the “sect” referred to. It is a completely separate organization, People of Praise, and, frankly, it sounds like a sect. Something to be read about here and then elsewhere so that it is not just something the DM dug up. Their reporting on it sounds pretty straightforward to me. Read the article and judge for yourselves.

Forgive additional post, but we need a lot of information.
People of Praise is not affiliated with the Catholic church. From its own website:
People of Praise is a charismatic Christian community. We admire the first Christians who were led by the Holy Spirit to form a community. Those early believers put their lives and their possessions in common, and “there were no needy persons among them.”
Jesus desires unity for all people. We live out this unity the best we can, in spite of the divisions within Christianity. We are Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Episcopalians, Methodists, Pentecostals, Presbyterians and other denominational and nondenominational Christians. Despite our differences, we are bound together by our Christian baptism. Despite our differences, we worship together. While remaining faithful members of our own churches, we have found a way to live our daily lives together.

My personal pick would be Lagoa... her family understands socialism....they were tormented by the marxists....I identify with her... I was raised under hitler's gestapo... during the war many people were tortured and killed... the gestapo took our chickens and cows... we lived in constant fear.... when hitler died... we cheered....

Cultural ignorance on full display with this weird headline and I’m afraid with some of the comments here. The Christian so-called sect is People of Praise. The handmaidens in it appear to be advisors or spiritual coaches.
It is absurd to imply that they are the inspiration for the novel The Handmaid’s Tale. The fictional handmaids in that book were breeding stock, completely subservient to the married couples to whom they were assigned in a world of catastrophic infertility.
They certainly didn’t advise anyone on anything. The society in the book is brutal and unjust so it is an outrageous stretch to compare People of Praise with the rulers in the Handmaid’s Tale.

#10, you are off base because you didn't read the article, an error I have made myself. You err in assuming that they are calling Catholicism "a sect". They do not.
The "sect" is some sort of a relatively new small Christian group called People of Praise. THAT is the 'sect' that they mention. Frankly, it does not meet the definition of a sect, IMO, and is just an extra curricular Christian group, not entirely unlike the Knights of Columbus, which serves outside of and along side of the Catholic Church. As I understand a sect, they have some different religious beliefs from the main version of a religion. There is no hint that this is the case with People of Praise, just that they have some particular ideas of how to be better Catholics.
It is a hit piece, but we should know what they are planning, which is the only reason I read it. I despise the DM.

Barbara Lagoa will bring along Florida. Mexican-Americans might not be influenced much but even a few more Latinos for Trump will make a difference. Having been confirmed by 80 senators recently is a huge plus. Helps appoint this Justice before November 3rd. The Socialists just lost all their planned October Surprises. If the Socialists postpone the vote until after the election they will find out many Latinos will vote for a caudillo that leads like a Boss.

The Left's spin will focus only on projecting things they hate onto the nominee(s). The Right's spin will focus exclusively on the aspects of their lives that we consider virtuous. Can't blame the average Joe for wondering whether the two sides are even talking about the same person, and being totally confused about which perception is closest to the truth.
Maybe reporting has always been a stranger to truth. It just seems worse today, because we see it firsthand.

Frankly, I am concerned about any female appointed to the bench right now. Women place a high emotional value on supporting each other and being accepted. The two females currently on the court are liberal political operatives. Tremendous social and subtle emotional pressure will be applied on the new female appointee to agree with them and thereby be accepted. Can we be sure that these two well-qualified judges, labelled as conservative, can resist that pressure, and NOT ultimately straddle the Constitutional fence or abandon the Constitution?
BTW, #10, the first Christian church was composed of Jews who believed Jesus Christ to be the son of God who came to redeem us from our sins. They followed His teachings while He lived and continued to follow them after His resurrection and ascension to heaven. The book of Acts in the Bible details their experiences and the conversion of Saul of Tarsus /Paul who took the gospel message of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ and the grace of God to those outside the Jewish experience/Gentiles. Constantine I, is reportedly the first Roman emperor to adopt Christianity as his personal standard for living/governing and fostered its' growth throughout the Roman empire via the Catholic church.

As a practicing Catholic I am not familiar with the group People of Praise. Having said that, I do not believe that it is a Catholic organization, I believe it is a made up of many Christian faiths, it is hardly a sect. I am concerned that it could be a problem regarding Judge Barrett's confirmation. As another poster mentioned, I too worry about the adopted children, while admirable, anything involving Haiti could be corrupt and we all know the left will dig very deep on both her faith and the adoptions. Based on both of these issues I would pick Barbara Lagoa although the left will probably say she does not have enough experience. I still feel that there is not enough in Judge Lagoa's background for the Dems to stall the procedure, and time is not on our side.

When it comes to Supreme Clown vacancies, I'm on board with the one having the nicest legs, even if you can't see them under that damn black robe.
How about a little pageant featuring the President's potential picks?
